The manager paid workers their 8 months salary after the CEO refused paying. His reason was because of the dwindling motivation and constant complaints from the employees.
Was he wrong? What should he have done better? Did he merit to be sacked because of the above mentioned?

No CEO will ever make him a manager again.

I think that he took a wrong decision, if he paid them through his pocket, it would have been a whole new story.

The best thing he could have done as the manager is to discuss with the management on how to settle the workers backlogs.

For Christ sake its their entitlement. I strongly believe it was within the purview of his Authority to make those payments. Probably nonpayment before then was due to paucity of funds but immediately things improved he has to pay. If for any reason he needed authorization from the CEO mechanism like the CEO signing off oo the salary schedule before payment should have been put in place. If for any reason those mechanism are in place and the Manager flouted/circumvented them then its definitely an infringement on the part of the manager
