I can see that Gowon is sitting down with General Adeyinka Adebayo, Military Governor of the Western Region, and General David Ejoor, Military Governor of the Mid-West. Both Adebayo and Ejoor were senior to Gowon. So why was Gowon their Boss?

This isn't correct.

So many people's blood are on his head.

What a name to make of yourself.

That's why FFK dealt with Bianca ruthlessly. Came back to rule over them without even an apology.
The truth is that many more senior southern officers were passed over for promotion to make Gowon emerge as HOS. He was a Northerner and participated actively in Murtala Mohammed's Counter-coup of July' 66. That was d reason officers like Ojukwu, Nwawo, and co refused to recognize him as HOS. Kiss d fucking bitter truth.

The Counter-coup of July 1966 was d brainchild of Murtala Mohammed. He wasn't chosen as supreme leader cos he was deemed too difficult to control by fellow coup plotters. 'Gentle Jack' Yakubu Gowon was seen as a more suitable candidate.

Gowon was chosen by consensus. Nigeria had no leader between July 29, 1966 and August 1, 1966. Three days.

Ojukwu was senior to Gowon and was irked by the decision. He could not see himself answering sir to his junior. That was partly why it was difficult for them to have reasonable talks over the violence that erupted in the North against Southerners (the pogrom). That was why the Ghanaian government decided to act as mediator by bringing them to the Aburi conference.

Gowon was not chosen by consensus, he was chosen by Murtala Mohammed and other Northern coup plotters because he was the highest ranking Northerner in the Nigerian Army at the time. The seniority problem was an issue between Ojukwu and Gowon because Ojukwu was technically senior to Gowon, however, it was settled at Aburi where Ojukwu decided to recognise Gowon as head of state if Gowon kept to the Aburi agreement. Unfortunately, Gowon could not keep to the agreement

Learn to speak with facts. Produce the official seniority list to back your claim.

They were is senior, but the counter-coup change the all scenario of superioty, when the Northern element insist they must produced the head of state against the established rules know to military ethics. Funny enough their is Two more senior ahead Adeyinka and ejoor

Not that easy as u might think. The western region back then had just handful Yoruba Son's among file and rank which constitute a large portion of the army, unlike the northern particular North Central, which has more than 55 percent of file and rank.
It is imperative to know that Yoruba land which house the nation capital has be seize by the coup plotter, so how do you resist this coup plotters when your tribal men are few in army and you caught in the middle of the war. The best option is to apply diplomacy in addressing the issue.

Gowon never really wanted the war, history told me that he was pushed beyond his limits. As a Christian, he never meant to use hunger against Biafran Children, but those Military guys from North central and south west took the war so personal. So I read

THESE ARE GREAT HISTORY.

I CAN SEE IN THE VIDEO THE LATE MAJOR GENERAL DAVID EJOOR THE GOVERNOR OF MIDWEST REGION.

General Ejoor died some months ago in Delta state 10th February, 2019 in Lagos.

GENERAL YAKUBU GOWON HAD SO MANY RICH HISTORY BEHIND HIM.

Generation unborn will continue to learn from this records.

The only area I would wish to fault General Gowon is that his old preaching that Nigeria is not negotiable.

It is this slogan that President Muhammadu Buhari was indoctrinated with that till date they do not want to accept RESTRUCTURING.

I pray that God Almighty touch the heart of General Gowon to accept RESTRUCTURING before his death to convince most northern to change from this wrong belief that is tying the progress of Northern Nigeria and Nigeria as a country.

Gowon looks much older than his 32years. I would have thought he was in his 40's or 50's.

It is better to fight and escape to Cote d'voire when the heat is too much than to be a coward who cannot fight at all.

The counter coup was led by Muritala Muhammed and others like Danjuma. As a result of the success of the coup, the plotters nominated Gowon to take over government after the British thwarted their initial intention of secession. Ogundipe, Adebayo, Ejoor, Njoku, Ojukwu and others who were senior to Gowon had no other choice than to recognize him as the supreme commander or leave the army.

It saddened me to know that the north wanted to secede after they realised the havoc they had wrecked but they were still reintegrated.

In 1966 these men were Lt. Colonels and not Generals. Gowon was a safe choice for all at that time because though a northerner he was of neither Hausa nor Fulani ancestry and also not a Muslim, at a time when the Nigerian political landscape was rife with ethnic tension. Who better to appease all sections of the country than a man the north could relate to as their son, and the majorly Christian south-east could also look at as one of theirs.

PS; unfortunately, Nigeria has been on the descent since then as common sense and merit has been a thousand times over sacrificed on the altar of ethnicity/tribalism. We the youth don’t even realize how precarious a position our nation is in right now. We just keep mouthing expletives while mortgaging the future of our children as our fathers did ours!

Look at both men saluting Gowon, their junior, just because they did not have the courage to rise up like Ojukwu
