EPISODE ONE

My parents named me OLANREWAJU, except for my parents and some older relatives i don't allow people call me that name. Something about that name i hate, it was Unrealistic to our Reality.
The first three letter words in my name typically means WEALTH in YORUBA, nothing burdens me more like bearing that name when i was well opened to the fact that wealth has no relationship to our family status. I only introduced myself to people as LANRE or my Muslim name SUFIYAN.
I am the first child and the only Son of my Parents, i have a Younger Sister, WALEEYAT. We lived in a room and parlor self-contained apartment somewhere in APAPA, Lagos. We were born and brought up there.
Like normally i have my space on the 3 Seater Sofa in the parlor, our parents and WALEEYAT sleep in the room. I think it is understandable why i hate that Name… Even though we are not rich, my dad made sure we attended one of the best private elementary and high school around us. We lived in a rugged neighborhood in APAPA but i was a complete opposite to what life offered me there, my dad had always been a disciplinarian and he carried us along in his disciplines and mannerism. In my dad's opinion my Mum was gentle and too soft to beat manners in us but he was wrong anyways, the love and care my Mum showed us influenced me to be more mannered, respectful and disciplined Compared to my dad muscled and stony ways.
I made my O'Level [Ordinary Level] exam in NECO 2012 where i had credits all through my subjects after 2years of trying, the WAEC i sat for a year earlier was withheld. WALEEYAT was in Jss2, we have a gap of 6 years between us. My parents was advised not to concede again after the deadly delivery my mother passed through during my birth, WALEEYAT'S pregnancy was a mistake so i heard and she came through CS [Caesarean Section] *****

One day i went to the CAFE with DOLAPO my talk-mate. I wouldn't call him my friend even though we are almost in the same Age Bracket, we were neighbors, he lived with his parents in the 2nd bungalow [A room and parlor self-contain] next to ours. They moved in The previous year after Mama CHIDERA the former occupants moved out when her husband who was a Mopol [Nigerian Mobile Police] got transferred to Abuja, CHIDERA was my best friend and my junior in Senior secondary school, She once told me in my face that she likes me not just as a friend but more intimately, i felt the same even though i knew it was wrong to feel that way due to my religious belief and the age we found ourselves [I was 18 and she was 17 then], we actually started what we both termed dating in our own opinion, but it didn't go beyond 2 weeks when we realized we were better as friends and not whatever feelings running through our poor minds. And i needed to make it known that nothing happened in those 2 weeks of our intimacy, just more affection and care, and bombardments of love messages. The building was Semi-detached on a 1/3 [One Third] plot of land with dwarfed fence at the back and on the sides with the front left opened with no gate. DOLAPO was too immature for my liking. The day i got the shocker of my life was the day DOLAPO told his mum i helped him get a girl number on Facebook. His mum was a deeper Life church member, she accused me of initiating her Son to WIRE-WIRE [Yahoo] and other sorts of foul allegations. The rain of abuse i got from my parents that day was enough for me to run away from home, as if that was not enough i even received a reinforced Knock on my head from my dad because i couldn't defend myself. DOLAPO apologized to me afterwards and i forgave him but ever since we only talked about school or football and nothing personal, when he would bring up talk about girls or asked me to tell him about my new catch online or in the neighborhood, i would smile and waive the talk because even though he was few months close to 19 [I was 19 already] then, i concluded that he was still not ripe for such chat after the Facebook story.
We went to the CAFE to check our JAMB [Joint admission and matriculation board] result. DOLAPO had made his O'Level too, he met his luck with NABTEB [National Business and Technical Examinations Board] at a MIRACLE [Runs] CENTRE in 2011. The least grade he got was in yoruba language where he scored 'B' and every other subjects are A's.

"Good afternoon sir" _We both greeted the man we met at the entrance of the Cafe.

"Good afternoon are you here to check result?"

No doubt he saw the print out photocard we both squeezed in our hands.

"Yes jamb result" _I replied and we entered the Cafe.

Every desktop in the Cafe was in use when we entered so the man told us to sit on a wooden chair at one side beside the entrance door. It was the period WAEC registration was going on and JAMB just released it's result 2days before. After about 10minutes one of the user [A guy probably in his early 20s] whose Desktop was displaying JAMB portal drawback his plastic chair and left wearing a sad and miserable look, his expressions did some damage to my confidence but i was still optimistic, the man asked if we would buy minutes but i told him to check it for us since we don't have any other thing to do other than checking our Jamb score, we won't have to buy minutes, just the cafe charges for result checking. He checked for DOLAPO first and he scored 187, i couldn't grasp the Mountain fear that crossed my mind that moment. The man checked for me and i scored 192. We both left the Cafe very disappointed, i never felt pity for DOLAPO until that day, he wanted to study medicine.
He chose computer science initially but his mum was deceived by his Miracle centre O'Level result and she changed his course to medicine. Even DOLAPO confessed to me he had thought his mother was mistaking conductor for Doctor when she told him of her dream for him to be a medical Doctor. Dream!
I chose Quantity Surveying, an Uncle of mine who is a Younger brother to my dad studied the same course in the University and he is also a NIQS [Nigerian institute of Quantity Surveyors] member, i used to visit his place in OGUN STATE during long term break in high school and he would gist me a lot about the profession. Being a construction COST EXPERT and a contractor my uncle was also a site agent and he doesn't work for any company. The possibility of being independent as a professional made me developed more interest In the profession. My uncle has a big shop in front of his house that he was using as office, He is not very rich but he is a millionaire today..

I never see DOLAPO so silent like he was that day, i wasn't in a good mood either but i have another plan.
Our target was UNILAG [University of Lagos] but with that paltry score we won't even get Yoruba Language to study. The cut-off mark for my intended course was 210 and DOLAPO own was 270. I had told my parents of my plan to study in the polytechnic should in case University doesn't work for me and it came as surprise when they agreed without protesting a bit because my Dad had always want me to study in the University, He regrets not going to the University when he had the chance. My Dad like to share his story for people to learn especially when he see a youth being a Vaga-bond. After hearing his story sometimes i wonder why he would scold me really bad anytime i did a slight wrong knowing to me i was a saint compared to him when he was my age...
One day, some months after, i got a call from my High [Secondary] school mate but already a student of The Federal Polytechnic Offa, i chose the Polytechnic as my second choice in jamb. I already did some screening exam online as directed by the Polytechnic after i applied for their Post UTME during the past few months.

"Hello LANRE check the school portal, they have released first batch admission"

"Okay okay i go check am now"

Few minutes after i checked my admission status i called my friend [JAMAL] back..

"Hello JAMAL walahi dey don give me admission, as in my course gan gan" _ I said with a cheerful look i wore on my face like someone that won the jackpot from Bet9ja.
JAMAL had gist me a lot about the school, the girls, the bad guys and at that moment i was very eager to be there. *****

THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES

EPISODE TWO

The resumption of The Federal Polytechnic Offa was just a day ahead, my Mum had gathered enough food stuffs for me and i could see some beverages, oil and tomato cans in the nylon sack close to the Echolac [Travelling Bag] my Dad bought for me earlier that day.

"All this for me?? I wish i had taken my O'Level more serious all this years but, it is not too late to start from here" _ I murmured to myself.
I had protested against my Mum food schedule in the house many times, she would cook AMALA or SEMO in the morning, rice in the Evening when it should be the other way round, My Dad never complained though.

"So very soon i can cook whatever i want anytime i like to" _ I thought to myself.

5days after resumption, on a Saturday morning 23rd November 2013, all was set and i was eventually leaving for school, i couldn't resume that week because of financial concern, my Mum suggested that my Dad should ask his Brother for help and help came when he made the call, my Uncle credited my account with a sum enough to pay for school fees, hostel accommodation and pocket money, he also bought me a brand new HP laptop. I had never seen my parents so proud, i couldn't sleep throughout the night, it was a very anxious moments for me because i am not used to leaving home except my uncle's place in OGUN STATE.
My parents and WALEEYAT [My younger sister] saw me off at the bus terminal, my Mum and WALEEYAT returned home from there while my Dad and I headed to ORILE where i boarded Bus [18 passengers bus] to OFFA, KWARA STATE. The journey was stressful and at the same time adventurous, more than half of the passengers in the bus were students, i listened to most of their chat on the Civil Unrest between the City and a nearby Town which occur early that year and the deadly fights between the two Top Confraternities in the Polytechnic ALORA [Sealords] and AYE [ Confraternity] outside Campus during the S.U.G election two months before, Life in campus, the ongoing construction of the new permanent site just to mention the few that caught my attention... And i wouldn't miss the chance of seeing the Mighty PALACE of their King which i heard is one of the most expensive and one of the biggest in Nigeria.

Almost 9 hours after we left Lagos we finally reached our destination, the bus dropped every passengers left in the bus in front of the school while some had dropped in front of the PALACE and some before and after. Students mostly the fresher were in front of the school standing by their luggage negotiating with bike men, some were on a call probably with their family at home or calling who will come take them, some mini bus and tricycle [Keke Napep] driver was calling for passengers, There were students especially the ladies buying OKIRIKA [Fairly-Used] Clothes, shoes and bags where the sellers displayed them on a mat, I saw the statues erected just immediately in front of the main entrance of the Polytechnic, i had seen it's picture on the school portal.

"It is official! I am here! _I said to myself.

I had planned to stay in the Hostel, it was my Dad idea but JAMAL [My friend in the school] convinced me to stay with him off-campus. My parents must not know especially not with JAMAL. JAMAL was expelled along with 3 of our classmates when we were in SS2 for hiring some thugs to beat up a male copper, he had served a month suspension after it was discovered that he wrote the love letter that was found on the Locker of Miss Blessing the biology teacher before that.

"Hello JAMAL" _Me

"How fa you don arrive?" _JAMAL

"Yes i dey front of school now" _Me

"Cross go the other side of the road you go see one Cafe, ask for BOLAJI make you tell am say na me you dey wait for i dey come" _JAMAL.

I did as JAMAL told me. Two hours after JAMAL did not show up, i tried to reach him on his mobile but he missed all my calls.. i looked around to see if i can get something to eat, i couldn't recall the last time I felt so hungry and for the first time in my life, i miss my Mum.

"Ohh, over there" _I found a shop few blocks away from the Cafe, i could see crates of soft drinks and snacks.

"Good evening, please give me two gala" _I picked one plastic coke from the cooler carried by some crates filled with empty bottles.
The attendant was a beautiful young lady, she was fair in complexion, slim and about 1.70m [5feet 7inches] height, her yellow brown eyes are captivatingly beautiful, taunting and tempting and curtained by natural black lashes, the symbol of rich beauty.. I saw an epitome of beauty, she looks so innocent, breathed Wit and charming. THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES!

THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES

EPISODE THREE

I thought Lagos had the most beautiful girls in Nigeria but i was wrong. I wanted to talk to her but i don't know what to say, it was difficult for me to think of something even when she looked up and met my eyes, It was very unusual for me.
I finished up my food and was reluctantly going to leave.

"Sorry you haven't pay me" _She said with a quick smile.

"Ohh sorry my mind skipped it" _Me

"RIHANAT! _ a woman called from the other side of the road, the woman was standing before some carton of goods and i could tell she is the owner of the Shop, may be her Boss.
She Went To Meet The woman and she carried a carton of soap and a sack, the woman carried another carton, i was Going to Collect the carton from the Woman but then i noticed there was another carton left on The ground, i was pleased to carry it. Just when I was about to enter the shop the young lady [RIHANAT] ran to me and collected the carton, with a killer smile she gave me i couldn't help but to watch her every steps to the inside of the Shop where they kept other bulk of goods.

"Thank you my son, God bless you" _The woman.

"No wahala ma" _I replied with a wide smile like someone that just met his role model.

I paid for the coke and gala but then i noticed RIHANAT was staring at me before she looked away when our eyes met.
She is beautiful but i am not bad either, let me give you guys a glimpse of myself. You already know my name, i'm a bit tall with height of 1.79m [5feet 11inches], chocolate in complexion and i hear a lot of compliment about my look especially from the girls. I don't have a lot of girlfriend but one thing i know for sure i easily get most ladies attention, way back from secondary school they used to call me ANOBI YUSUF [Prophet Yusuf] "Handsome but Innocent"...
The jest name came when i reported a girl in my class for always acting strange right from the day we started sharing the same seat, mostly in a seductive manner, She was a new student and older than me. To crown it all i Know What a Girl Would love to Hear and the right timing to say those words.. That's Who i am!

After the very brief eye drama i saw JAMAL heading to the Cafe from the other side of the road, if i would wish for anything that moment i would pray for JAMAL to stay longer.

"LANRE lanredo!" _JAMAL
He was going to hug me but i couldn't hide my anger towards him because he kept me waited longer than i expected.

"No vex my guy na one yeye lecture i dey and i no fit commot" _JAMAL.

" But you told me you don't attend lecture on Saturday" _I said fumingly.

"I swear the man just like wahala ni jare, he said he won't be around in the next 2weeks na why he fixed a class for today, and i no fit miss the class cus his attendance his compulsory.. No vex my guy" _JAMAL

On our way going to where he was living i told him about RIHANAT.

"LANRE i'm sorry to say but that girl cannot be possible" _JAMAL dropped the bomb.

"Why? What.. wha, what do u mean, is she dating a cultist?" _ I asked inquisitively.
" I don't know about that man but, so long as we will be staying together and we will continue our friendship here, i'm sorry you will have to look elsewhere" _JAMAL.

Is JAMAL dating RIHANAT or he also has interest in her?

I never knew until that moment how bad it could hurt to lose something you never really had. But i'll still go for her anyway, any means...

THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES

EPISODE FOUR

Few minutes after we got to JAMAL place i received a call from my Dad, i had called my Mum on my arrival. The Call with my Dad lasted for almost 2 minutes and the only thing I could remember he said was;

"Are you in the Hostel now? Are you sure you are okay?"
And the best response i could think of that moment was; "Yes sir" to his questions.
I was lost on a thought of RIHANAT, although I was going to ask JAMAL why he said i can't get my wish with RIHANAT but for the records, JAMAL gets his facts right. During our High school days we had a pack, JAMAL was one of the most important and notorious members of the pack for his palliative acts anytime we get ourselves into trouble, and anytime JAMAL bring news, if it's a good news you can set a date for celebration but if it's a bad news, you can only hope for a Miracle to make it good.

I never believed in love at first sight but at that moment, i was in a dreamland. I don't miss my evening food [Dinner] but that night i was very tired and weak. It was a long tiring journey and from my story, a toddler should be able to tell why i was weak.
The next day which was on a Sunday, on that Sunday morning we did some cleaning in the room and after the cleaning JAMAL left for the porch [Verander] where he was busy with his phone chatting. His room was the first at the right side of the face-me i face-you bungalow he was saying then with majority of the occupants students, like normally the room has two windows, one at the side and the other to the porch. I was still inside the room arranging my stuffs when i heard a call from JAMAL.

"LANRE!" _JAMAL

"Yes!" _Me

"Do you really Love that girl?" _JAMAL

"Which girl be that?" _Me

"RIHANAT of course" _JAMAL said with a low voice.

"Yes now, i dey serious guy.. but why you dey ask?" _Me

"I go tell you later but if you know what is good for you right now, no commot for that room" _JAMAL.

From his statement i knew he must had seen or seeing her from where he was sitting. I looked from the window to the porch where JAMAL was sitting and i could see the same girl, RIHANAT. No one would be able to see the inside from outside, only someone from inside can see from the rusty net of the window.
She was sitting in front of a painted house directly opposite to our house [Few meters away] with her legs crossed and her hands resting backwardly on the wooden chair she was sitting, she wore a armless top on a knicker that falls above her knees and her long dark shiny hairs spread on her shoulders, her eyes on JAMAL but he doesn't seem to care because he was busy with his phone. She was looking weird like a Godly father that caught his matured Son Watching porn [The father go be like; useless Son, we say make you go marry you no gree] in JAMAL direction...

"JAMAL why the girl dey look here?" I asked inquisitively.

"I don't know o guy" _JAMAL.

"Stop it JAMAL don't give me that crap, i know there is something between you and this girl, wetin dey happen?" _Me.

"Okay i will tell you, lemme round up my chats i dey come inside" _JAMAL.

I fastened up what i was doing and just when i finished JAMAL entered. I looked from the window to see if RIHANAT is still there but she was not there again.

"LANRE what i'm about to tell you now is not a secret because most people in this neighborhood are aware, but i don't like to talk about it because i'm trying to forget everything please let us not talk about it after today" _JAMAL.

Nobody can be more serious than a political prisoner expecting a favorable result at the supreme Court [Abuja], i was more serious at that moment.

"Trust me i only need to hear it once" _I said while adjusting my testicles..
After JAMAL narrated the whole story to me, i saw every reasons why my wish with RIHANAT may not be possible unless i stay away from JAMAL.

EPISODE FIVE

Staying away from JAMAL is not the problem but getting where to stay in a place i don't know anybody, i could not afford a room outside campus that is why i agreed to stay with JAMAL in the first place so that we could share the payment.

From JAMAL Story;
During JAMAL first year in The Polytechnic [ND1] he met ZAINAB, RIHANAT older sister and They were course mate, JAMAL left the Hostel where he was squatting to live in that neighborhood, to live in that house, ZAINAB rented the room for him.
Three months after they started dating ZAINAB got pregnant but she kept it to herself until one day, when ZAINAB father got JAMAL arrested because ZAINAB had taken drugs to get rid of the pregnancy. The abortion almost get her killed..

It was after two days when she regained consciousness in the Hospital that she told her parents JAMAL was not responsible and knows nothing about the abortion, Another boyfriend was responsible.
ZAINAB left Offa to live with her maternal grandmother in IBADAN [Oyo State] after the incident. One night, few weeks after she left Offa she asked RIHANAT to give phone to JAMAL because JAMAL was not Picking any of Her Calls Since the incident Happened.
That night JAMAL did not only abuse and cursed her alone on phone but also cursed her family for embarrassing him when her father got him arrested. The rain of abuse was too much and ZAINAB had to drop the call on JAMAL, RIHANAT collected the phone and was leaving when JAMAL told her to not forget to tell her "Foolish Father" to come arrest him again for what he said.

That statement did not go well with RIHANAT who smacked a hot Slap on JAMAL'S face and called him "Ungrateful animal" before she walked away. She was aware her sister used to give him money and she knew about the room.. *****************

The following day, Monday 25th November 2013, i attended the only lecture i had that day and i started the manual registration, it was a hell long queue at every places of registration..
A week after, i was going to do the Medical Examination which was the final screening at the polytechnic clinic and getting there i was surprised there were few people on the queue, it was the orientation day for the new students and we were told there would be penalty for any student that fails to attend, but JAMAL had told me they will not be using the attendance that they only said that to make students turn up for the orientation.

"Why do i need to attend any orientation when the smart ass i am living with has already given me the real O.T i would need to keep my head's up in the campus" _I said to myself before joining the queue. The last person on the queue was a young lady.

"Hey!" _Me.

"Hey!" _The girl.

"Are you the last person on the queue?" _Me.

"No. There was a girl, she said she want to get a water" _The girl.

"Okay no problem" _While on the queue i replied the messages on WhatsApp and My Facebook before i continued reading a Romantic Novel i was reading online the night before. To say i became obsessed by phone after my secondary school will be an understatement, i used to be online most of the time chatting, reading Novels and sport News, i am a DIE-HARD Arsenal fan..
Few minutes after someone approach, my face was looking down and my focus was on the Novel i was reading but i could sense it's a girl, no guy will be in a skirt and a lady's shoe, the only Cross dresser i know or have heard about in Nigeria is DENRELE and he studied in UNILAG not a student here so i didn't care to look up until her Rosy voice Parted my attention

"Can i take my place on the queue"

She asked the girl in front of me and the girl nodded her head in agreement. She turned to me afterwards;

"Sorry i was at her back before i left to get water"

"Yeah! Sure!" I answered while recovering from my surprise..
She was really the same girl, RIHANAT! ***********

She joined the queue, i didn't want to rush a conversation with her so i try doing some other things on my phone but i couldn't do a thing, it's like my brain stopped working and i was not the same person i thought i was; THE Prince Charming! I lost that title that moment.
It was strange because i never felt that way with any other girl, not even on my first try with one of the most beautiful girl who was the Head Girl in my junior Secondary School.

Less than 10 minutes after RIHANAT joined the queue, the nurse that call students to enter inside was calling 3, after which the ones inside must have finish their Medical, but she later said 5 should enter after the last 3 stepped outside, RIHANAT was among those called in and i was the 5th person when we entered.
After the test we were given a paper to Fill, everyone was filling their paper but then i noticed RIHANAT was not filling the paper given to her, she was just looking at a painting immediately in front of the desk we were leaning on. I guessed she was waiting for a pen but i didn't say anything even though i had an extra pen in my pocket, i just made sure i finished first so she could ask for my Pen. When i was done she was not looking at my side so i made a sound as if i cleared my throat and i backed it with a Sarcastic expressions to make it look real.
"HHM! HMM! HHMM!"

"Hey, can i use your pen" _She said pleadingly.

"Sure!" _ I gave her my pen and when she was done filling we went together to submit. ******

THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES

EPISODE SIX

I was standing outside the clinic where some students and the clinic staff were standing while waiting for the school bus, i left RIHANAT at the clinic reception, we were leaving together [She doesn't have any idea who i am or so i thought and i was still pretending not to know her or have no mission] until she saw one of the Nurse who came in just when we were about to step outside the clinic, from the way she greeted the woman and the expressions on their Faces i was sure the Nurse is a relative or someone close to her family.
I was not waiting for the bus but i don't want it to be obvious that i'm waiting for her. The clinic is close to the Main entrance of the Polytechnic and since their shop is opposite the school i thought she would go directly to their shop since it was lecture-free day for the new students prior to the Orientation. My plan was to walk her down to front of school, it should not be more than 7 minutes walk but that would be enough for me to read my feelings to her But instead, she joined us where we were waiting for the bus, she filled the space between me and another female student.

"Did she do that on a purpose or she's really waiting for a bus too?" _Questions i had no answer to burst through my mind for a second before she eventually broke the silence.

"Hi" _RIHANAT.
I thought it was the wind because i never expect that and i didn't see it coming, but it could not be for someone else because she made it obvious when she looked at me.

"Hey, Hi..." _With a smile and a brightened face, i replied.

"...I hope you are through with your manual registrations after this medical?"

"Yes and you?" _RIHANAT.

"Me too" _After the brief chat my confidence returned like a prodigal son who returned home after a long time away. He will be like Daddy, i am back again!

"What is your course of study?" _I asked.

"Mass communication" _She replied.

"Wow! You must be very good in English language?" _Me.

"Not really, what about you?" _ RIHANAT.

"I'm studying Quantity Surveying. I love physics, Maths a bit" _Me.

"Really? Greatest Nigerian Student" _She joked.
I smiled and I stared a bit, she reciprocated. Her smiling and innocent brown eyes with fluttering eyelashes skipped my heartbeats and i stopped breathing for seconds.

"Do you think we have met before? " _I asked Fastidiously.

"I don't think so, why do you ask?" _RIHANAT.

"I am sure we have met before" _Me.

"Oh really! Are you an indigene of OFFA?" _She asked with a brightened face.

"No. I entered this state for the first time barely 2 weeks ago and i met you that day, at a Shop beside the Cafe in front of school"_Me.

"Eiyah that's my Mum's Shop, you came to buy something? _RIHANAT.

"Yes and you attended to me, in fact i saw you the following day" Me.

"Really? But we don't open on Sunday" _RIHANAT.

"Not your Mum's shop, i saw you seated in front of a painted house at AYABA street" _Me.

"Ohh! That is our house. Are you staying in that area?" _RIHANAT.

"Yes, the house opposite" _Me.

"Which of the house?" _RIHANAT.

When she asked the question my heart raced faster, and it was like it's going to jump out of my body. I didn't want to tell her about the house i'm staying but it's like the words forced it's way out of my mouth.

"Ohh JAMAL please don't show up in my next life if there is going to be another one" _I said inaudibly. And i calmly replied her afterwards.

"Ahhmm the house that has a mango tree in it's front" _Me.

"Okay" _She said with a sigh that depicted her dissatisfaction.

"Ohh please, i am OLANREWAJU by name" _That was the first time I ever introduced myself with my full name.

"RIHANAT" _She said with a quick smile.

"What a beautiful name for a beautiful girl" _Me.

"Thank you" _RIHANAT.

"Your name sound Islamic, are you a muslim?" _Me.

"Yes i am and you?" _RIHANAT.

"I am a muslim too, SUFIYAN is my muslim name but please just call me LANRE" _Me.

"Okay" _RIHANAT.

"Are you going home now?" _Me.

"Yes" _RIHANAT.

I was suprised she said yes because i had thought she would go to her Mum's shop, Just that moment the school bus came and we left together. We both dropped at a junction that lead to our street, i walked her to the front of their house and we exchanged contact.

EPISODE SEVEN

When JAMAL returned from school i gist him about my encounter with RIHANAT and we both agreed we can only be friends in the room, we are only neighbors outside our room.
I thought about it if i was doing the right thing by Practically disowning my friend for the girl opposite but the truth is, no theory can convince someone in Love, i was really drunk in love. That night i added her on Facebook with the number she gave me and the number was her WhatsApp account digit..
After chatting with her for about 2 hours on WhatsApp, and at the time Free night call was about to tick in i asked if i should call her but she said no. According to her on the chat, she can only do that if her Dad is not around. The last time she tried it even Jesus Christ the savior would not have save her from her Dad that night.
Her Dad became strict with her after ZAINAB unfortunate story.
Few weeks after we became friends we had our Matriculation, that day was one of the best memory i wouldn't forget easily. It was a very Fun and colorful event, more than half of the populace were on matriculation gown and cap, some hung it around their neck while wearing the cap, there were photographers everywhere taking pictures and those shooting with their phone, it was impossible to snap a selfie picture without people showing in the background, the SUG organized a rally to welcome the new students with sounds of drums and trumpet that filled the ambiance, Having a playback of that memory in my head anytime i am down or in a grumpy mood is enough for me to smile, more like listening to a Mood Music after a break up from the first Girl..
We had couple of pictures together and with some of her friends, i took her to a popular Hotel in Offa then [AVALON].
Ohh! Not what you are thinking my readers, we only visit the hotel restaurant and we had our First Kiss at the Hotel pool that day. I asked her to be my girlfriend that day and she said YES. ********

After the High-pressure and Stressful first semester Examinations, we were given 2 weeks break so i called my parents that i will not come home until after the session, JAMAL went home so i asked him to bring me Food stuff from my parents.
During the break i asked RIHANAT if she could visit me at a course-mate place, the guy also went home for the break but i collected the key to his room before he left. RIHANAT couldn’t visit me at my place not only because of JAMAL but also because of her parents, they must not know about us. She told me her father threatened to disown her the day he find out she is having a boyfriend.
She disagreed, but she told me her reasons. It's either she is home or she is at her Mum's shop, she cannot be at anywhere else.

One Saturday evening she called me, after we spoke for few minutes she told me to reply her message on WhatsApp. My data was off so i didn't receive her message, i switch my data immediately after the call.
She has never been in a hurry for a reply except it's something important, at that moment I was only hoping to get a good news...
And it was.

The Coolness of The Eyes

EPISODE EIGHT

The WhatsApp CHAT:
"Hi dear" _RIHANAT.

"My princess, are you home?" _Me.

"No but we are closing shop very soon" _RIHANAT.

"Okay. You missed my calls this afternoon, was your Mum around when i called?" _Me.

"Yes and you almost implicate me" _RIHANAT.

"Oh really, so how did you kill the trouble this time?" _Me.

"She asked if it was a call and i lied, i told her it was an alarm meant for prayer reminder because it was around 4pm when you called" _RIHANAT.

"LOL. May God forgive you" _Me.

"May God forgive us" _RIHANAT.
After for about 5 minutes pause i was going to reply her last message but she had sent another message.

"Are you there? Are you busy?" _RIHANAT.

"No dear, sorry for replying late i went to check what i am cooking" _Me.

"Hmm, what are you cooking?" _RIHANAT.

"Rice and beans Concortion" _Me.

"You want me to come help you?" _RIHANAT.

"No" _Me.

"Why?" _ RIHANAT.
"Because I know you cannot come" _Me.

"But you know i would like to come if i have my way right?" _ RIHANAT.

"Sure i know" _Me.

"BRB [Be Right Back] in a minute please"
She stop chatting for few minutes.

"Hi" _RIHANAT.

"Hi" _ I replied.

"Sorry i went to attend to customer" _RIHANAT.

"Alright Dear" _Me.

"Where are you going tomorrow?" _RIHANAT.

"Where would i go when school is on break and my friends have all traveled. I will be home till probably 2:30pm because Arsenal match is starting by 3 o'clock tomorrow " _Me.

"Okay. Do You still want me to Visit you? _ RIHANAT.

I was lying on the bed chatting, but when i saw that i change posture, sitting up and very concentrated like an A'level student writing his/her 5th O'Level exam after failing for those previous 4 times.

"Yes of course" _Me.

"Okay. My Dad traveled today and my Mum is going for her catering work tomorrow" _RIHANAT.

"So you will not be going with her" _Me.

"No. My Dad did not allow it" _RIHANAT.

"Alright so what time do you want to come tomorrow?" _Me.

"I will call you, but you know i can't come to your place?" _RIHANAT.
"Yeah i know, i will tell you where to meet when you are ready to come" _Me.

The following day, Sunday morning around 11am she called and i told her the direction to the place i said was for my Course-Mate who also went for the break, i had been there earlier that morning. I was a bit nervous because that was the first time a girl was visiting me.
The place is a neighboring street [Immediately before/after our street] so it was easy for her to locate the place. I was at the front of the lodge when she got there on a bike [Motorcycle].********
She sat on a plastic chair just beside a plastic table used for reading when we entered the room and i protested, i told her to seat on the bed but she said no...

"Okay what do i offer you?" _ I said with a faded smile.

"I didn't cook this morning since i know i will be visiting you so i Want to see your cooking ability" _She said with a smile.

"Alright ma'am, indomie or Rice" _I said feeling confident.

"I don't want Indomie or Rice and please don't cook beans Concortion for me" _ She said with a quick laugh that broaden her dimples, her cute eyes controlled my consciousness like a heart under attack, the entire body is out of control.. THE COOLNESS OF MY EYES!

"Okay what do you want to eat?" _Me.

"I wouldn't mind a vegetable soup and whatever solid food you prepare with it" _RIHANAT.

"Are you kidding me? You are just pulling my legs right?" _Me.

"No i am serious, if you can't do that then i will not take anything else" _RIHANAT.

"Okay, i'll be right back" _Me.

The good thing was the place is close to a popular Market [OJA-ALE] in Offa just opposite the PALACE.
I played a movie for her on my laptop before taking a bike to the Market to buy all i needed to prepare the vegetable, and i bought some FUFU [AKPU] at the Market since she doesn't mind any solid Food and i thought doing EBA will not be a good idea.
When i returned from the market she has dozed off on the bed with the movie still playing, i could hear the faded sounds of the movie from the earpiece on her ears.

She laid resting her head and some part of her upper body on the pillow. due to her posture, the top she wore slide up a bit barely an inch above her abdomen, exposing little of her tummy, The mini skirt she wore shifted up a little to her mid-thighs and The laptop resting against the soft skin of her exposed thighs.

It was the most tempting moment of my life, i try taking away my eyes from what the devil planned before my return but each time i tried, i ended up throwing my gaze at the inducement that is beyond my control. I should be controlling my gaze as the Holy Book teaches but that moment it was her physique that controlled every parts of me.

I closed my eyes and i seek God protection [I said some prayers in Arabic], but the Devil that was with me that moment came for me... Very Prepared!

THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES

EPISODE 9

Just before the dirty thoughts running through my head play into reality she woke up.

“Hey, the movie is boring?”
I asked trying not to look her eyes, I was not sure if I was disappointed or happy that she woke up. But at least I was sure trying anything with her like that could have been a wrong move, unless she is aware and feel the same.

“Not really, I don’t even know when I closed my eyes”

She said while adjusting her mini skirt.
“Okay, I hope you don’t mind FUFU? –Me

“You bought FUFU from the market?” –RIHANAT.

“Yes, I thought it would save some time and stress, but that’s if you don’t mind.” –Me

“Okay oo” She said smirking.

“Okay, let me get the soup ready” –Me

“Get the cooker and pot ready” She said sitting up from the bed.

“WHAT?” –Me

“So you think I will be sitting here watching you cook, that was all test, you try” –RIHANAT.

“Try? So I didn’t pass?” –Me

“Okay, you passed the first test” She said with a brightened face.
She cooked the soup and we ate together. We also had some good moments together before I saw her off at almost 3:00 O’clock in the afternoon, just some romance and I don’t really wanna go into details.
RIHANAT stole my heart but she gave me something in return. Before I met RIHANAT I barely complete my 5 daily prayers which is obligatory in Islam, RIHANAT did not only helped me with my salat [Prayers] but she would also remind me about the SUNNAH [Deeds and says of the prophet PBUH] and also the non-obligatory fast in Islam. Although she was not a saint but she was morally and Islamically better than I was.
Our love grew everyday that passed, we shared and talked about lot of things. We used to talk about marriage, our first sex on the night of our marriage. I know what she wear every night before she goes to sleep, when she’s on her undies and when she’s on night dress.. In fact I used to know when she’s on her period, the intervals, unless when nature would say otherwise.
We had a spot close to the staff lodge in the campus where we used to be together alone, where we gist and talked about our day mostly after we must have done with lectures and other school activities, it was an old and abandoned cafeteria which was about ½ [half] kilometer away from classrooms.

During the second semester, few weeks to exam RIHANAT visited me at the same place, I don’t really know how she was able to convince her mum because her mum was around at the time but somehow I was not really bothered. She had introduced me to her mum as her course and reading mate.
RIHANAT would allow a kiss and light touches but nothing more, she was very committed to her “No Sex Before Marriage”. I didn’t agree with her principle but the love I had for her was more than just sex.

JAMAL and I traveled together to LAGOS at the end of the session [after second semester exam], it was JAMAL final year of his ORDINARY NATIONAL DIPLOMA [O.N.D] Program and he decided to continue his education in LAGOS after I.T [Industrial Training]. I was on phone with RIHANAT most of the time in the bus and just when we were about to enter LAGOS, to my surprise and shock she asked if JAMAL was with me that I should give the phone to him. I pretended I didn’t know what she was talking about, and that was when she told me she knew about JAMAL being my friend from the first day I entered OFFA. She saw JAMAL when he came for me that evening at the café and she recognized me when we met at the clinic..

THE COOLNESS OF THE EYES

EPISODE 10

I gave the phone to JAMAL and they both talked about their differences and they apologized to each other, I apologized to her too for lying to her the whole time, she accepted my apology and she told me not to lie to her again.
That night I stayed up late till past 2:00am chatting with her and we continued like that throughout the break. The school resumed after six weeks but I had been in OFFA a week earlier, house was more boring than it used to be. DOLAPO my neighbor started computer training since he could not apply for admission to UNILAG due to his low score in jamb that year. I never knew chatting with someone could be so boring that you find it difficult to find the right words, it happened with RIHANAT and she understood it was normal so we used to give ourselves break, just phone calls until we have something to gist or talk about.
No new movie to watch on my laptop and no new stories online to read. I never realized an hour could be that long, long enough to sleep, wake up and still thinking about what to do with my dear life. It was our final year [second year] in school and my plan was to continue my education in the university. I was not sure of the university I want to apply but RIHANAT want us to continue in KWARA STATE, she want us to continue in UNILORIN [University Of Ilorin] *********
I did not find a new roommate after JAMAL but RIHANAT could still not visit me. One weekend she called me in the evening.

“Hello Love” –RIHANAT

“Hello dear I thought you would be busy at shop that is why I didn’t call earlier” -Me
“I’m at home” –RIHANAT

“What? You didn’t go to shop today?” –Me

“We closed shop an hour ago, my mum just traveled” –RIHANAT

“Oohh, she went for her catering work right?” –Me

“Yes, do you want me to come over?” –RIHANAT

“Sure! Yeah, but ahmm.. when do you want to com..?” –Me

“This evening, at your place” – She cut in before I could finish, but then I wanted to be sure If i heard the last two words she said right.

“My place you mean the house opposite?”

“Yes now, Ohh! Don’t worry my dad will not get you arrested, just don’t get me pregnant” – She said and giggled softly

“Oh, seriously?” – Me
She busted into laughter for seconds knowing I was actually afraid of getting myself involved with police after JAMAL and ZAINAB story, I had told her how fearful I used to get even when I sight a police vehicle or someone in military uniform, it’s a thing I had developed since when I was a kid. I remembered then my mum would scare me with police if I refused to take my drugs, and the only means she used to shut me up whenever I’m crying.
“That is not funny RIHANAT” – I said feigning anger.

“Okay Okay I’m sorry. But my dad traveled early this morning” –RIHANAT

“Ohh really? I will be expecting you then” –Me
When I dropped the call the first thing I noticed in my room was that my bed sheet was not so nice and that I forgot to sweep that morning. I quickly changed the bed sheet to the new one I brought from house and I made sure that I rearranged everything disarranged in the room in less than 20minutes.
No expert house keeper can be as fast and as good as a guy expecting a girl, he would make sure that even the ceiling fan is dusted, there will be no home for the spiders and cockroaches that day.
Few minutes after I was done tidying up the room I heard a knock on my door, I opened and it was RIHANAT. She wore a light blue armless top, more like a singlet and a blue jean, I never noticed her curves until that night.
She was carrying a black nylon sack with her when she entered

“What is that?” I asked curiously

“I brought your favorite” –RIHANAT

“My favorite? What is my favorite?” I knew she know my favorite but I was only trying to make her talk. She handed the nylon to me with her eyes on the banner portraying the complete ARSENAL INVICIBLES [2003-2004 SQUAD] I have on the wall. I opened the take-away size stainless steel cooler inside the nylon and it was really my favorite, BEANS CONCORTION

“WOW!” I said joyously.

“Will you eat now” –RIHANAT

“Yeah, shall we?” –Me

“Okay but I will only have little, you know I don’t fancy your favorite food” –RIHANAT
We ate together and after some talk about our day on the bed as we laid next to each other her phone rang and it was her mum, she put the phone on loud speaker so I heard their conversations. Her mum called to ask if she has eaten, and she reminded her to off the electronics and to not forget to lock the door before going to sleep.
When she dropped the call she saw me staring at her but she didn’t say anything, she looked away instead. May be she know what I was thinking..
“RIHANAT there is something I want us to talk about and I think this is the best shot we’ve got, not something we could discuss on phone” –Me

“What is that OLANREWAJU mi [My OLANREWAJU]” –RIHANAT

“It’s about this relationship. You are 19 now, don’t you feel what women feels sometimes? Like you know, nature calls.” –Me

“LANRE I know what you are talking about but you know I can’t do it, not now, I thought we talked about this before. –RIHANAT.

“Yeah we talked about it but I hope you know we only have some months before graduating from this polytechnic, and I’m not sure if I will be doing my I.T in OFFA” –Me

“And what does that have to do with these relationship?” –RIHANAT.

“It has a lot to do with these relationship , we have to give ourselves something to think about RIHANAT.” I said sitting up from my lying position, she sat up too.

“So you mean the love we shared and still sharing is not enough to think about? I’m in darkness LANRE what are you talking about” –RIHANAT.

“Look RIHANAT we are both virgins and we are only human, meaning we can not be perfect, any of us can be tempted to cheat if the pressure becomes too much and we could lost each other to someone else’s if that happens” –Me

“Excuse me, so you think I could cheat? That is all you think of me LANRE?” –RIHANAT.
Before I could say a word she stood up and was leaving in anger, I rushed to the door to stop her but she didn’t take any of my plead. I looked into her eyes and the Angel I know turned monster, I have never seen her so angry.
I called her phone few minutes after she left but she didn’t take any of my calls, the following day which was on a Sunday, I sat in front of my house arguing with other male students on who was the richest between ARSENAL and CHELSEA for more than 3 hours on that Sunday morning , with my eyes on the house opposite throughout but RIHANAT did not come outside. It was unusual of her not to come outside especially on Sunday morning, Sundays was her favorite day to wash her clothes and even if she decided not to wash on that Sunday morning she could have come outside to fetch water from the well immediately in front of their house, it’s part of her morning routine.
I started having bad thoughts. “could something have happened to her or she decided not to come outside because of me?”

EPISODE 11

I called and texts her later that morning but she didn’t reply or pick any of my calls until that evening, she picked my third call after missing the previous two.
“Hello” I said remorsefully.

“Hello” She responded with a distressed voice.

“RIHANAT I’m sorry for whatever I may have done to hurt you, I regret what I said yester night and I’m very sorry” She didn’t say anything so I continued.

“I’m very disappointed in myself right now.. Hello, are you there?” She didn’t say a word but I heard her sobbed before she dropped the call.
I didn’t call her again but I texted her some apology texts that night. The following day I went to her department after my lectures and I saw one of her friends who told me she went to the ATM close to the admin block.
When I got to the ATM I saw her operating the machine and there were some guys on the queue so I stood by the pass way, when she was done withdrawing from the machine she saw me but she ignored me, I was sure she would have pass another way if there were to be but since I was standing at the only pass way to the main road, she was going to pass me by and shun me but I stood in her way, I moved closer to her and held her hands. Although I was sure she couldn’t have hit me or do worse because the eyes I saw that moment was the same soft and innocent eyes I used to see.

“I know you are still angry at me but please don’t shun me, just hit me or shout at me I will take it because I deserved it” She didn’t say anything, she was just staring at me. The innocent and soft look she wore that moment could make a burning heart went cold, I mean emotional…

“Please say something RIHANAT” –Me

“I’ve forgiven you since you apologized but I just couldn’t bare to know someone I gave the whole of my heart to didn’t trust me” –RIHANAT.

“I trust you RIHANAT, I promise such thing will never happen again, I will never hurt you” –Me
We left the ATM together and I asked if she has any other lecture to attend that day and she said no, she went to the ATM after attending the only lecture she had according to her. I asked if she is hungry and she said yes so i suggested we go to one of the cafeteria in the campus. We had some meat pie and malt at the cafeteria and she paid for what we had, I didn’t want her to but she insisted. Although that wasn’t the first time she would pay for our food especially at MAMA PUT, the food canteen in the campus but I was only trying not to look completely broken even though she was aware I get very little from home.
Apart from the daily stipend RIHANAT get from her mum, she gets money from her dad too, additional 20,000 naira that kept pilling in her account every month. Although I never begged or ask for money from her but she used to buy at least half of my handouts for me in every semester and she has more than twice bought food stuffs for me.
Sometimes I used to think of the possibility of not living the rest of my life with RIHANAT as I would pray.
“What if we lost each other?”
“What if our parents didn’t allow our union?”
“What if she leave me for someone more wealthy and handsome?”
it’s a thought that used to flood my mind once in a while but those thoughts are unimaginable and Inconceivable in my very little mind.
One day, few days to our final exams [second semester of our second year] we went together to watch my department HOD’S Cup final competition between my class [ND II] and the HND I class at the school stadium. After the match which ended in favor of the HND I, we had some pictures together and with some of my course mate on the pitch of the stadium.
I was going to see her off at the school gate before going to the bus park, I would go home directly and she would go to her mum’s shop because it was Saturday and there was no lecture, most lecturers have rounded up their lecture for the semester. She left home that day on the excuse that she couldn’t read at home so she told her mum we are reading together since the exam was near, we planned it together but the truth is RIHANAT doesn’t read in the day, she does her reading in the night and the same goes with me.
As we were approaching the main entrance of the polytechnic with our hands locked and our arms separating our body as we walked she started this conversation.
“OLANREWAJU do you really love me?” –RIHANAT.

“What kind of question is that?? I asked with my eyes on her trying to find some answers.
“Do you really do?” She asked again meeting my eyes.

“Of course and you know that” –Me
She wanted to say something but then she paused, she walked to a wooden table close to the spot we were standing just in front a kiosk that was padlocked and the owner not around. She rested her back on the wooden table, crossing both arms and legs with her head pointing down. I walked to her and before I could say a word she continued.

“OLAMI there is something I think you should know, but now is not the time. I will tell you after our exam” –RIHANAT.

NOTE; OLAMI is just a short way of saying OLANREWAJU mi [My OLANREWAJU]
I pleaded to her to say whatever she wants to say but she insisted after our final exam.
Fast forward to after exams… She finally told me what she’s been keeping away from me.
She came to my place [The house opposite] on the evening of our final exam, we couldn’t see at the school because my exam was shifted and I finished at almost 7:00 pm. She started by reminding me of when I asked about her genotype of which she told me she was “AA” having known mine to be “AS”. She actually lied, she was “AS” also, meaning we are medically not compatible and if we marry there is high possibility of us giving birth to a sickler if not sicklers. She said she was afraid of loosing me so she kept it from me. I was very angry at her that night but at the same time I was glad she did. I wouldn’t trade those moment we spent together with anything in this world. We both cried that night but I assure her nothing will stop me from living the rest of my dear life with her unless she feel otherwise. She was happy and we both had our first sex that night, we did not plan it but it happened.
I was very depressed and destabilized after learning about her Genotype that I went dumbfounded for more than 10 minutes while lying my back on the bed, she sat on the edge of the bed making sounds with her nose at every minutes sniffing in mucus, she finally speak, she said she will accept whatever decision I make but that I should give her what she referred to “Last Kiss”.
It was the best and longest kiss I ever had in my life. We kissed for more than 40 minutes and we were touching, it started getting wild and I moved my hand down her, working my hand on her she started mourning softly.. She signaled me to stop while sitting up and I thought that was the end of it but instead she UnCloth herself, she helped me with my clothe and since I was only wearing boxer we went down again and we finally did it. We stopped when she was feeling uncomfortable and the expressions in her eyes shows it was painful, probably because it’s her first time.
We couldn’t see each other the following day because her dad was around and they were at their shop together with her mum almost throughout that day. We only chat and spoke on phone so I told her I will be travelling back to LAGOS the next day, I asked if she can find a means for us to meet before I leave and she said she was not sure but she will find every means. That night we were on phone call for almost 2 hours and she promise to come to the garage before the departure time [7:00am] in that particular garage.
She came that morning and on sighting her I couldn’t hide my excitement and emotion, we had the deepest and warmest hug of our life. I didn’t care to ask how she get to leave house that morning, for all I care in the world was just to see THE COOLNESS OF MY EYES. We couldn’t hide our emotions as we both had tears in our eyes, she reminded me of my first day in OFFA when I came to buy GALA and COKE at their shop, the day at the clinic and the day we had our first kiss at the pool on our matriculation day. When the bus was ready to leave I gave her a quick and light kiss, and I promised not to go back on my words about not letting her go. I promised to check on her at least every 3 months and that I will continue my school in KWARA STATE after I.T because of her…

My only regret is that this story is not like the kind of stories you guys are used with on nairaland because it's not much, but i promise you will not regret reading it after d last episode...

I posted a story (POOR GBEBE AND HIS SORRY MOTHER) before this one, you can search for it and read, you will like it.

Thanks for the comments.

Good day guys. first of all i have to apologise for taking this long before posting the episode i'm about to post now which is the last episode.. It was never my intention.

I don't have a smart phone for now so i only post with my laptop (anytime i'm able to connect with WIFI service in the campus). The last two weeks has been very tedious because of cumbersome school activities.. I'm sorry!
