The so-called and last Oba of Benin died in exile. He was so humiliated and reduced to a beggar. At least, Obong of Calaber had a treaty with United kingdom. One wonders if there is iota of truth in the goofy statement that "England recognize only two kingdom
The Benin kingdom And United Kingdom"

His cap is Igbo like

Are Ebira people related to the Igbos?
Wow
^^^^^
^^^^^

The red chieftaincy cap was originally
introduced into the Nsukka area by the
Igalas. It is NOT originally native to
the Ibos. The Ibos borrowed certain
dressings, foods and cultures from their
immediate neighbours such as Igalas,
Edos, Efik, Ibibio with reference the Aros,
Abriba, Ohafia etc. The popular Nsibidi
art is actually of Ejegbam, Efik origins.
The style of dressing of the Efiks or Ibibios
and their foods are similar to Ohafia and
Aros etc. because of their historical and
cultural links.

Ibos are NOT the only ones who wear
red chieftaincy caps.

Yorubas of Kogi and Kwara wear the red
chieftaincy cap.

Ebiras, Igalas, Idomas, Edos and some other
Northern ethnic groups wear red chieftaincy
caps.

I hope this helps.

Oldest Monarch in the world, The Obobanyi of Ohionwa in Ihima, Okehi Local Government of Kogi State, Chief Jeremiah Akaava, has died at the age of 116.

A statement issued by the Ohionwa clan in Lokoja on Saturday said that the monarch, who spent 36 years on the throne, died in the late hours of Friday.

The statement, signed by Mr Yusuf Itopa on behalf of the Ohionwa Clan, described the late monarch, who is reputed as the Oldest Monarch in the world, as a man who stood for peace, unity and progress of Ohionwa, Ebiraland and Kogi and Nigeria as a whole, The Nation reports.

The clan expressed its gratitude to men and women of goodwill who appreciated the late Obobanyi’s role as a unifying force in the land and consequently showed love and respect to him while alive.

The late monarch has since been buried.

Ebiras, Igalas, and Idomas are also directly related. This
is based on my years of historical research on the very
exciting history of Nigerian peoples.

On the other hand while searching for some information on Igala history
in 2015, I came across a post by an elderly Ebira man on Facebook who
said he was surprised that young Igalas online did NOT realise that Igala
is the UNION of EBIRA KOTO[Apa]+AKPOTO YORUBA

Why Do Kogi Central (Ebira) People Call Ihima and Adavi People Yoruba?

Even the Igalas have close links with the Idomas. There was a lot of
intermingling of peoples within the last 800 to 1000 years.

There is a 2017 NL post here on an Igala thread where we discussed
some of the relationships below.

Idoma origins and ethnic identity have also been related to the Igala.
This view sees the Idoma as being of Igala extraction, itself believed to be a subgroup of the Yoruba
and therefore distinct from the Okpoto. According to this thesis which was made popular by
W. B. Baikie, before 1500 A D, both the Okpoto and the Igara (Igala?) occupied separate
territories around the Niger, the former on the East and the latter in the West of the Niger.
However, by about the first decade of fifteenth century, the Igaras were driven East of the Niger
where they settled among the Okpoto. The Idoma, according to this view, are a
hybrid of the Igara and Okpoto fusion 27. This view appears to suggest that the
Okpoto and the Igala were originally Yoruba speaking and the present Idoma
ethnic group is a synthesis of the two. This view gets reinforcement from lexicostatistical
evidence, which grouped the Idoma, Igala and Yoruba under the Kwa sub-unit of the
Niger-Congo family of African languages.

It must have been on this basis that Erim concluded that the Yoruba factor in
both Igala and Idoma cultures cannot be completely ignored 28.

A Study of the Origin of an Indigenous Community in
Central Nigeria: Interrogating Akpoto-Igala Phenomenon

IJAH 5(3), S/NO 18, JUNE, 2016 191
Traditions of Origin
The origin of the Igala is surrounded with myths; several traditions of origin
points at Agenapoje, Jukun, Bini and Yoruba. (Boston 1962, p.373). These traditions
were reflective of the relationship that had existed between the Igala and the various
peoples. Equally, an analytical study of the various traditions reveals that they were in
most cases, historical traditions or explanations that tend to trace the history of the
ruling clans. In other words, most of these traditions are directed at the patterns of
migration and possibly the history of the Attah Kingship. Therefore, what existed as
the history of the people constituted a meagre fraction of the entire history of the polity
and people of the Igala. Early European explorers, writers, anthropologists and
historians who delved into the history of the Igala people could not make any serious
analytical study of the area except through the instrumentality of inter-group relations.
Also these scholars could hardly trace the historical origin of the Igala except those that
connect their kingship ties to either Bini, Jukun and so on. Therefore, what actually
existed as the probable historical origins of the people were those that have been
established as a result of language affinities as is the case of the Yoruba or those that
have to do with either cultural or kingship relations as is the case of Bini and Jukun.
(Boston1968, p. 13-14) expresses the problems surrounding the historical origin of the
Igala thus:

The Igala are located at one of the natural crossroad in Nigerian
geography…this has brought them into contact with a wide range of
peoples. The confluence area like Poland in Europe seems to have been
pulled in different directions at different periods. At times, the Igala
have been oriented towards the Yoruba, at other times towards Bini,
or again, later on, towards the Jukun Empire, and they themselves have
exercised a considerable influence on surrounding peoples such as the
Idoma, the Northern Ibo and the Nupe.

All the best!
