Actually there are no laws in Nigeria against strip clubs,(correct me if I am wrong, and dancing nude is not prostitution) villagers have been dancing nude and semi nude in Nigeria for many centuries and that exactly is the meat of the matter. If you want to arrest people for attending strip clubs or working there make laws against it. That way they are breaking the laws by participating in such ventures

If there are no laws against an act arresting people for such activities infringes on their right.

I should add I am not a strip club patron, never have been, never will be but this is about justice, law and order. This is about the laws of the land been sancrosant not the moral code of a few or the majority.

A person's dressing is also his/her expression. A fundamental human right is your freedom of expression. The government has no right or business arresting people because of what they wear.

It has even been settled by the courts as early as 2015

I must say some Nigerians are very useless. A raid on strip club that has led to marriages and homes being broken due to its attraction of married men who neglect their responsibilities to their family. Even married women were caught. Diseases are spread unrestrained. God detests sexual sin so much more he destroyed two beautiful nations he once blessed and preferred. Anyone standing against the raid is a lover of evil. Most of those girls are taken away from their hometowns with juicy promises and exposed to ritualists in the risky trade. They are exploited and made voiceless.

Nigerian feminists are very confused!

They cry for "equality" with men but when the law clamps down on them like they do to men, they remember THEY ARE WOMEN

grin grin grin

The law can only clamp down on those who broke it irrespective of gender. What is happening in Nigeria is lawlessness and abuse of power. The constitution is the law and those who claims to be enforcing the laws are those who broke it the most. If the laws are to be truely applied, do you sincerely think that Buhari will still be President?

really no law against strip clubs..so why do govt ban them and call them illegal activities if they are no laws against them and what does villagers dancing nude has to do with strip club...the govt didnt infringe on any right..it carried out its mandate

you were told by whom...pls stop spreading fake news
Oga stop trying to feign blindness or deafness or ignorance over the news making the rounds that the girls were molested by the police, it's becoming ridiculous. The OP on this thread already mentioned violence against women as one of the basis of the protest. Did you not read that?

Can you swear on the life of your children (born or unborn) that you haven't heard or read of any of these reports?

I'm sure @lilwetdick will still come back and ask me source of info again, or maybe this time he will insist the women were lying and police saying the truth.

Why don't we all just practice shariah already?... WHy all these waste of time?.. WHy don't we just add shariah laws to our constitution and by so doing, we would be saving marriages and pleasing GOd?

If the girls have been trafficked, or if they are being exploited, why doesn't the police arrest the traffickers and exploiters?

i guess you dont understand how journalism works, what they do is just copy and paste news from the main source, nothing new

did you read in one of the article where they wrote the women were hanging around the clubs at night when they were arrested..i have been to night clubs before and i can say that many women hang around the clubs just standing and guess who they are prostitutes... prostitution is illegal, if they were normal women..they wont be caught..they will be at their homes sleeping.

we are in nigeria..so the video is nothing new..even in detention, police call journalists when parading suspects...the journalists can ask any question..they do that often all in front of camara not in the back

similar case happened when a guy who dances was arrested with other guys at a hotel..the police called them cultists and one the guy spoke with journalist and had to explain himself.. nothing new

Honestly I have to show solidarity with the ladies even though I am not a fan. The Nigerian police, army and whatever they call themselves are in the habit of bullying and taking advantage of women. The idea that some shariarist in uniform can dictate how the rest of us live is a misnomer that must ultimately be met with force.

SO what exactly is your point?... DO you now agree there is a report that the girls were assaulted (because you've been dancing around in circles all day claiming that I just fabricated the story)?... Or is your point still that the assault is a lie; that the girls are lying and the 'Nigerian police' are the ones telling the truth?

By the way, I never argued with you whether the girls were prostitutes or not. I only said it's only a matter of time before the uselessly untrained Nigerian policemen start picking up every girl they see on the streets, in bars and in clubs and physically and sexually assaulting them under the guise of arresting prostitutes. No be Naija police again?! Meanwhile whilst prostitution is illegal in the Nigerian constitution, is the raiding of strip clubs, arresting and assaulting of girls (under whatever guise) also lawful?

Assault- make a physical attack on an individual

on a police raid, you get assaulted... that is the reality and nothing strange and inbetween..i have never seen women have problems with police except prostitutes.

feminists and support of evil. what they forgot to tell us that a stripe club was raided and stripe clubs is illegal in Nigeria

so a strip club was raided by the police then feminists came out to protest

we shouldn't forget that those clubs exploit women and make them mere sexual objects

confuse people

we should not forget both men and women were arrested during the raid, i never saw men crying victimization

But this is how society progresses...

Something being law doesn't make it right.

Segregation was once law in US.

In ancient Mesopotamia (Babylon), under the Hammurabi code, if you killed someone's daughter, the penalty was to have your own daughter killed.

Wetin your daughter do?

And if someone accuses you of something like witchcraft, you could face a "trial by ordeal". The ordeal could be throwing you in a river, and if you don't drown then you are declared innocent.

If you drowned, your accuser inherits your possessions (the other way around if you didn't).

If you are a rational and fair-minded person, then these two examples will sound ridiculous.

And you'll agree that something being law doesn't make it fair.

In the US, and parts of Europe I believe, it was once perfectly legal to challenge people to gun duels if they maligned you (cowboy style shoot-outs). Now those are no longer permitted.

In conclusion, if adults, who are not under duress, choose to dance naked on a pole, in a private setting, then it shouldn't concern the State at all.

“In response to security reports and complaints from the residents of area adjoining the location of Caramelo Night Club on plot 630 Cadastral zone B05 along T.O.S Benson Street within Utako District, the relevant authority deployed its officers to carry out surveillance in order to validate the complaints.

“The outcome of the surveillance revealed that the complaints are genuine and real. Please note that the substance of these complaints include: noise nuisance from loud party music, nude/strip dancing club activities intractable traffic challenge, resulting from uncontrolled patronage to the commercial nightclub within the residential precinct.

“The plot under reference is zoned as Health Clinic on the Utako District Land Use Plan, and in line with this plan, the building plan approval granted was for the development of the health clinic.

“Accordingly, the property was developed as a health clinic, however, the use of the building has been changed to a commercial night club (Caramelo Night Club).”
