This makes me want to cry. Nothing motivating about this. Withing those years, people like malala have been born, won a peace prize. Some have left a long lasting impression on humanity. People have made enough wealth.Nothing to celebrate here. It just reflects the country Nigeria. Wasted years and dreams.

That's exactly the way I see it. I understand our "lucks" as human are not the same. But he had options that he failed to utilize or even envision. Simply put, with all due respect to his age, he is not smart.

This is a very silly thing to say. How can you undermine the value of education?

You do not need plenty certificates to acquire wealth and knowledge. you do not have get msc or PhD or becoming a professor to acquire knowledge and wealth. basic education plus first degree is ok. and if first degree will be difficulty to obtain, obtain at least a diploma certificate.

I achieved a heck of a lot, actually. Including a PhD in 3.5 years, over 70 publications, a humongous house in Trumpland, and a dollar salary in 6 digits. I hope you die of envy.

BTW, the fact that this story inspires you shows how visionless and unambitious you are. Loser!
That gives a clear hint of your true self.
A Ph.D holder won't descend so low with your argument, I'm afraid and boasted of his achievements when no one can prove that.
What's your area of expertise in your thesis
A doctorate degree holder with a good pedigree won't come to vilified anyone online and praised his Okoro brethren to chastise fellow elderly being.
Descent people with sound opinion will equally understand your Humorous house in Trump city with your 6-digits fat dollars salary as well.

Putting his ordeal aside, I don't think he chose the right and he might actually be smart. But flip the coin, had unilag sponsored him then he might have gone far. Kudos the the others who fled. But the system failed him like many others after him. I guess he chose to live within the limitations set by this mad Nigerian system.

You asked me a pointed question about what I have achieved in life. I gave you a pointed response. Now you say I am boasting. I responded even though this post was not about me and you chose to personalize it. Well, if you want to discuss me, send me a direct message with your real name and credentials. Then we can start from there.

When you do the same thing for 25 years, how can that be smart? It's just like Nigeria itself floundering for 50+ years and achieving nearly nothing. He should have taken a cue from his colleagues who left. Now imagine how many years left of him to retire. All that effort will end up in retirement soon, if not already.

Smart Okoros grin with vision. Unlike the visionless Oluomo grin who spent 25 years to obtain a worthless Nigerian PhD at an old age.

You've forgotten that Oluomo has a Nobel Laureate while Okoros have been dying of bitterness and hatred with nothing to show.

It is genetically impossible for Okoros to win 2 things: a Nobel Laureate and a Grammys. They are not yet mentally evolved.
Oluomos have 13 Grammys with Okoros nothing to show.

What a waste! I got into the Nigerian university system (UniLag precisely) as Assistant Lecturer at a young age, I was excited to have gotten the opportunity to follow my passion but just a few months into it, I discovered that the earlier I left the better for me....So I 'jejely' packed my load and left.....I cannot come and waste my future doing useless research works only for d sake of promotion....
You will see a yeye professor raising shoulders, failing students and shouting that he/she is an authority in that field, go online and check his/her h-index....it will read 'capital zero'...Nonsense paper publications in nonsense (non-index) journals.

Wasted life and a wasted generation!

Education in Nigeria is a scam!

There is something which is so terrible about the education system in our public institutions, some lecturers derive pleasure in seeing students wasting away all in a bid to acquire a certificate.

No, this is not wasted!! NO talk so.

That guy produce some very top guys doing great things in Naija and elsewhere.

I am one of the products smiley

This man was a solid lecturer of differential equations and mechanics in those days at Lag. I respect this man so well because in the early 2000's when I took my average secondary school results to Unilag to try and see who can advise me, he was one of the people who took me into his office and gave me one or two pieces of advice.

This man na solid man, congrats Dr Adeniyan. We hail thee!

Actually some education are societally valueless. Like this one. That man will be retiring soon if not already. Given his age ( he talked about studying in the era of Old Western Region), his PhD which took 25 years to obtain in 2016, will only be useful for less than 5 years. That's total crap.

Lol, he has since been useful. Sometimes you don't need a PhD to be useful or to do research at the very highest level.

This best students got the best grades, A, in MAT 207, MAT 209, etc.

The bad students and lazy girls were doing everything to cut corners. The best students, he supported and encouraged. Don't speak in absolutes...Or was it not in the same department that someone got 4.96? If he was that bad and demanded money, would he not have failed that boy?

So, I do not completely agree with you. Serious students still did well, and in my time the students that passed his courses well were students that deserved to pass...I'm not talking about the other "let my people go"

Oga I know what am saying.
He deserves every bad things and hardship he faced and still facing.

But, I cannot talk about other sets of students...After all, many math students in those days were always looking for someone to blame
