The entire students community of the University of Nigeria was thrown into Mourning in the early hours of Sunday, after another student was reported to have passed on following an accident in his lodge.

The deceased known as Oguamah Michael Chidera, is a 200 Level student of Medicine & Surgery, at the Enugu Campus of the University of Nigeria. According to eyewitnesses who prefer to remain anonymous, Chidera has been sick for a few days, and was already prepared to go home before the incident.

Eyewitnesses say that this morning, in preparation to go home, he went to the 3rd floor of the 3 storey building (off campus lodge at Maryland, UNEC), where he lives to get water when he felt dizzy and collapsed. Unfortunately, his lodge has no rail on its balcony, and he fell straight to the ground from the 3rd floor, & landed with his head.

He was immediately rushed to the Hospital, but he died before reaching the Hospital.

This was an accident waiting to happen .

Why open the building to human habitation when safety features are yet to be installed??

The use of hollow 6 inches blocks instead of rebared concrete Cast is also a violation of building code in high rise building as segments could give way in the future with catastrophic consequences.

The Owner of the lodge could be charged with willful endangerment.

RIP brother!!

Why are we so reactive in this part of the world , I'm sure the impending loom has been waiting like sword of Damocles for quite I long time before this tragedy. So the correction wlii be made in reaction after the young man has atoned for the sins he he did not commit.......SMH. Rest in peace young man.
