Talented But Not Ambitious. Help Me!!! by mcdokwe(m): 8:42pm On Jun 01, 2019
I don't know if there's anyone out there in my shoes.

When I say I am talented, no be to hype myself... I get results from any little effort I make, but my problem is keeping them little.

Growing up, I watched fellow kids compete for a lot of things; attention, laurels, name them, while I stand by as a mere observer. I don't push to be accepted or recognized, but whenever it falls on me to do something, I just do it and do it well enough without a prior experience or training.

In sports, I remember being that kid that never gets selected until there's need to complete the team, then the narratives change.

In school, I see students stressing their lives to make the best grades, I don't even bother to read my books and still top them all...

When it come to skills, I just need to look at something and I am able to replicate or make something out of it.

I called that the simple life, and to an extent it has helped me... A counsellor friend of mine observed me and said I had a very low depression level, all thanks to my simple approach to life.

Even though it doesn't seem to bother me much, but doing the barest minimum to survive seem to have kept me at the barest minimum.

Even though I don't envy those who put in the needed extra effort to achieve their goals, I am beginning to be scared that someday, I was going to feel bad knowing I was blessed but failed to use my talents.

Is there someone out there who had been in my shoes and was able to creep out? I need to know his you did it, I need to over come this part of me!

I’m not necessarily gifted or anything special but I’ve also managed to coast in a lot of areas and still turn out well somehow doing the bare minimum, I can be very lazy.

Don’t let it get to the point where it sets your life back so drastically that you’re waking up in 10 years thinking of all the 'what ifs', it will be very painful.

You remind me of my brother,

I wouldn't call him talented, I will say he is a very lucky chap.

He would write exams and pass. Even if it is let my people go, he will sha cross over.

He used to tell me, "babe, you see that heaven...somehow somehow, me go enter am. If I no qualify via righteousness, I will qualify via church-going aggregate or something". We would laugh over it, but that has been the story of his life. Somehow somehow, im dey qualify.

Anyway, life isn't always that easy.

After uni, he got a job and started seeing real life competitions. Nobody told him to sit up. Maybe you will get to that point too.

There is only one thing that can change you.FAILURE!!
You know growing up I was like you too.
Started great in my childhood, everyone expected so much from me.
Then came middle school and it's crises.losing focus, drive and had little goals.
So making the barest minimum wasn't a problem for me and I took it as OK for me till real failure came in when I entered high school.then I made that life changing decision to be focused and started setting goals.
And guess what?it worked!finished school very well.
Even at life too!I started settling for less till I found out my peers had started doing good things in life whereas I was still trying to catch up!
I made another decision and I'll say so far,so good!
It will be good if you fail early so you find your turning point now rather than later.
Potentials without achievements is the worst thing that can ever befall any human.
Goodluck bro!

OP it seems you have good retentive memory & natural intelligence.

The real problem you having because there is always someone to rely upon, so this makes you relax so much.

How is it that you survived without a job for 7 years if someone is not catering for you? I doubt if you live all by yourself, pay your own bills etc

So yeah, it means you are doing well then. Perhaps you are comparing yourself to others which can be either good or bad depending on what you do with the results of comparison.

I don't think being able to pay rent and sundry bills equates to doing well, especially with the inherent potential in view

I laugh you in Chinese. Around where I stay currently, a self contain in a good estate goes for 500 - 600k. Excluding estate fees. 2 Bedroom flat goes for 800 - 1.2M. BRO, Rent is the second most important thing after money to feed.

Once you're done with Rent, then you can Invest the rest in your business, abi na under bridge you wan dey stay?
Re: Talented But Not Ambitious. Help Me!!! by Nobody: 9:13am On Jun 02, 2019
Success is a process.it is not something you just jump into in one day.
You've gotta understand this.
If you are on the right path,I see no reason why you have to be worried.
Competing with people too can cause things like this but I will tell you that it's a very stupid thing to do.
Continue developing yourself and business,it will pay off sooner than you expected.
Or if you want quick money, you know what to do....the question is;you go fit? cheesy

Sounds like you're lazy. Some gifted people become lazy in their late teens or adulthood because all their life, they've done better than people around them most of whom are not nearly as gifted. They do comparatively well without much effort. I believe if you had spent your childhood among equally gifted people, you'd have had a different conditioning. You could try being in the company of gifted people. With time, they could begin to challenge you. You shouldn't expect changes overnight. Reversal of conditioning takes time. At this stage, you may want to avoid the ultra-competitive types. They are more likely to make your situation worse.

I'm not sure how much responsibility you have. When you have only yourself to worry about, it's not uncommon to do the barest minimum to get by. Especially for a very content person. With responsibilty however, things change a bit. It takes quite a bit of work to fulfil your responsibilities towards another person. You could consider trying to cater for a sickly or elderly person in your family for 2 years, or adopting a dog. When you feel less lazy, you can even get married and have children. Doing things like these has a way of motivating people to work harder. But don't add new responsibilities too quickly to force quick results. That doesn't end well.

I am not a very ambitious person myself. I have been known to be quite lazy. But I find myself working harder when I step a little outside my comfort zone, when I face a real challenge, and when I choose to take responsibility for something or someone I'm not normally directly responsible for.

I have similar attitude.

Mine is I can get determined now, hyper determined and conquer my obstacles. After that, my drive wanes.

I get hyper determined when someone looks down on me. I want to always prove them wrong but once I achieve that, my drive Wanes like orgasm lol sad

Sounds like what you are on about is you aren't making enough.i get the picture now.
But there is something I will like to tell you.
Money na opportunity and it comes to all of us,it's how we choose to use it that makes the difference.
Some ignore, while others refuse to try.
Keep doing what you do the best way you can do it and believe me,that break will come.
And also be on the lookout, because opportunities come from the weirdest of places/people!
Goodluck bro.

May not be particularly finance related. Funny enough, I don't push for money, I charge the least even though I do a better work than most people around me.

I wish people looking down on me pushes me. I often write them off, telling myself I can do anything I want if I really need to or when it matters.

Sounds like a good way to not make the most out of your craft.
I think you need to setup structure and hire someone that can handle pricing!
I had this problem in the past but my bestfriend(who worked for me at the time) was a demon in pricing.
He sells very high and don't just give a Bleep about the client.
So when we finally seperated(money issues),I just continued on the standards he set smiley
But when you start to taste money, get better expenses and want to keep maintaining that lifestyle, trust me,pricing will adjust! cheesy
So you need those things now.you sound introverted though, are you? undecided

Life is not a competition but a journey.
Strive always to be better than one person. And that is the man you were yesterday.

Improve yourself bit by bit and never relent in self development.

Everyone has a unique path in the road called life.
Those who change direction to compare and compete with others always end in depression and frustration when expectations are not attained.

But godliness with contentment is great gain.-- 1 Timothy 6:6
