Hello gurus in the house
I had to register just to ask these questions
* my car had a very bad overheating lately, the mechanic claim too give the cylinder too a Turner. Did servicing , changed coils and plugs. It came good, fast forward one week now, I still notice black oil in the radiator after washing radiator after the overheating that burnt the cylinder then. The car jerked yesterday, the rewire guy noticed one plug was soaked. We changed it with adapter , came good but I notice it consumes more fuel lately. Fast forward this morning, just for me too start it and it's jerking. I'm almost feed up.. its a 04 corolla. Please I'm fustrated and fed. The guy suggested ringing of engine or overhaul. The mileage is like 160084.

I need urgent guidance please. I'm losing it. Thanks fam

Can you afford another engine now or sooner.

I actually don't have that strength now.. hence my cry for help.. said it's ranging from 160-180k but the ringing seems feasible.. He said like 60-70k. I don't know.. I'm just confused

1. its either the mechanic you had previously that worked on the head, via taking it to a machine shop, didn't complete the job, or the machine shop wasn't competent.

2. As long as you've started using an adapter for the spark plugs port, this suggests your piston rings are worn out.

3. Black oil in the radiator? What is the source of this oil? Can you investigate that?
Could you also kindly check the transmission system dipstick for any milky colour(suspension).
The black "oil" might be from your transmission system,.or the engine oil is already finding it's way onto the cooling system.

4. Sure you can overhaul that engine.
Just make sure you get someone competent to do the job.

Was top gasket burnt and replaced? If it was, maybe it wasn't done properly. If it was not touched, it's an item of suspicion.

Get to the root of the problem, resolve it and explore solution in the link below to clean up the cooling system.


Plan well, if fixing the current engine will cost much, patiently get a tokumbo engine.

Thanks so much for your input sir and your concern. . I checked your website and found out your office can handle such.. can I get to know the price it will cost to overhaul the engine, it's a 1zz-fe engine 1.6ltr. Corolla bank model.. I'm in between selling it but the price offer have been ridiculousent or finding means to fix but my major fear is having an issue afterwards..

I have rebuilt a lot more engines, including 1zz, 2gr, 1mz, Honda pilots, v8 infinities, etc.
Those vehicles are still in service.

It was the drivers carelessness.. twas just the fan that wasn't working properly, the temperature was sure working but illiterate are the most difficult people to manage especially when you are not there. It was avoidable but the deed has been done anyways..

If the fan were not working properly, then its the fault of who ever did not fix the fan..
Some issues like faulty cooling fans are not to be managed, something that 20k would have solved has lead to an over 100k something

I think you should just save up for a new engine.. This wan that the head has been machined already...

Just go and buy your Corolla.

I am sure this corolla in question is fitted with an Accord engine, that's why it is overheating.

At OP, don't mind my reply to my Accord friend up there.

As suggested, get a very competent mechanic to work on the vehicle. Also if you are asked to bring half of what it would cost to buy a new engine, please just go ahead to get a new tokunbo engine.

Please either option "repairing or engine replacement" you need a compent mechanic to handle the job.

From your narration, the current crop of people you are using are just doing trying and error making money off you.
