obaseki has beaten them to their game...I once said that obaseki needs to play smart as a politician to win this fight... welcome development!

don't forget that obaseki is only putting to practice what he lernt from oshiomole, who moved plenary to be held at the the state government house

The constitution says 1/3 of the house can sit to decide anything and it will stand. 9 members out of 24 members is above 1/3 and their decide stands. It doesn't necessarily mean the house must be 2/3. I'm not supporting what they did but their actions are right in the eyes of the constitution.
Thank you all.
No be this politicians they can twist the constitution overnight to there favour

APC has bastardized every standard of operation in all spheres of the country, from politics to the judiciary to virtually everything.

Oga, does Oshiomole look like a gentleman to you?
If you were Obaseki how else would you go about it?

See, as they say, Power is taken, not given.
Oshiomole himself did it recently to his brother Chief Oyegun.

If Obaseki does any seme seme, I bet you he will be history, like Ambode.

In the end we will know whether or not this is the best approach.

Don't blame obaseki, his offense is he should share money so no consultation or settlement would appease oshomole.

It is only a matter of oba stepping in and prevailing on oshomole to allow obaseki finish in peace (Adams listen to oba).

Don't know why people are self centered, oshomole looted Edo dry obaseki covered for him and manages to still fix things yet he is not happy.

I even want pdp to take over the state now,so that all of them can go and rest.

CGMedia:

There was drama on Monday as 9 out of 24 members-elect of the Edo State House of Assembly at about 10:22pm, ‘elected’ a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker for the 7th Assembly, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that while Hon Frank Okiye from Esan North East was sworn-in as Speaker, Hon Yekini Idiaye from Akoko Edo was elected Deputy Speaker.

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu reportedly whisked away the 9 members-elect, the Clerk of the House of Assembly, among other officials to stage a secret and partial inauguration amidst rumoured rift with his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.

The move, Igbere TV reliably gathered, was to shut out Oshiomhole’s loyalists from attending the inauguration and to forestall lost of loyalty in the Obaseki’s camp.

Igbere TV recalls that about 19 out of the 24 lawmakers-elect had on Monday afternoon, addressed a press conference where they raised the alarm over Governor Obaseki’s refusal to issue a proclamation letter for the inauguration of the House.

They equally alleged that the governor had threatened to sanction them if they should vote against his preferred candidate for the Speakership. The Edo APC Chairman, Anselm Ojezua confirmed the development, citing “party supremacy.” The 24 lawmakers-elect are all members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was alleged that the sum of N10 million was given to each of the lawmaker-elect who attended the swearing-in on Monday night.

Findings revealed that 4 out of the 19 members-elect who had earlier issued a press statement, later joined the House for the inauguration.

The new speaker, Okiye had adjourned Plenary till July 17.

Details soon...

You seems not well this morning. Are you saying the same 9 members can suspend 15 members and impeach governor.
I need not to insult you in return, I'm just educating you on what the constitution of Nigeria says.
Why not take your time, google and read for yourself.
1/3 members of the house with the mace as symbol of authority can do anything including impeaching the governor.
Have you forgotten what played out in Ekiti state when Fayose came in as governor? The PDP members form a quorum of 1/3, impeach the APC member who was the speaker and suspended the other 18 APC members. Did you hear of any litigation?
Secondly, the same issue also wanted to play out in benue state when majority of the house of assembly members decamped with the governor to PDP. The few APC house members lost out because they couldn't form a quorum of 1/3 to carryout legal impeachment.
The proposed impeachment was declared illegal by the court because they were not up to 1/3.
Be educated on issue before vomiting out rubbish.

Politicians and power play!

This irresponsible action was sponsored by a so-called “technocrat in public service”, Governor Godwin Obaseki. Obaseki was the founder of Afrinvest, an investment banking firm in Lagos, and was brought into government by Oshiomhole as someone with no public sector experience.

Like I stated elsewhere, it appears that most private sector officials get infected with a certain virus of illegality and irresponsible behaviour the moment they get elected or appointed! Examples abound: Amosun, Abdulfattah Ahmed, and others.

Also, politicians and betrayal is like 5 and 6. Read this below:

Well-rooted Edo politicians terribly fought Adams Oshiomhole for sponsoring Obaseki as APC governorship candidate, and against all odds; he won!

Deputy Governor Phillip Shuaibu has always been an Oshiomhole boy- right from his students union (NANS) days, to when Oshiomhole sponsored him to the House of Reps, and later handed him the current Deputy Governor position. They are from the same Edo North (Afemai) region.

These two are the ones fighting Oshiomhole so hard!

Examples abound:

Shettima vs Modu Sherif

Ganduje vs Kwankwaso

Orji Uzor Kalu vs Enyinnaya Abaribe

Orji Uzor Kalu vs Theodore Orji

Chimaraoke Nnamani vs Sullivan Chime

Goodluck Jonathan vs Timipriye Sylvia

Goodluck Jonathan vs Seriake Dickson

Jim Nwobodo vs Chimaraoke Nnamani

Ayo Fayose vs Biodun Olujinmi

Bola Tinubu vs Akinwunmi Ambode

Wammako vs Tambuwal

Donald Duke vs Liyel Imoke

Etc, etc, etc....

So, because he has a candidate for speakership, then the clerk of the house should be instructed to invite only 9 of the 24 members elect for the inaugural meeting? Is that how democracy is practiced? Because they know if all the elected members are present they don't have the numbers to install their puppet. Nigerian politicians behave as if they own tomorrow.

Go read the constitution of Nigeria, nothing is wrong in what they did in the eyes of the constitution. The report says 9 members, these 9members is above 1/3(quorum) of the house that can take any decisions on behalf of others and it's stands. Constitutional, the speaker can suspend the 15 members if the other 8 members agree with him.
The constitution also says the house can sit anytime as far the mace which is the symbol of authority is in the house.
I pray you understand my point.
OK Sir. But the question here is 'does the house with a required quorum sits without a proclamation from the governor and/or proper announcement'?

Then you must know more than supreme court. In the case of ladoja former governor of Oyo state, supreme court held that 2/3 members elected is required in any impeachment. They therefore returned the governor back to his seat.

What are your evidence to show the governor was involved?
You think the house of assembly composition does not matter to the governor?
Don't you know the leader of house of assembly can frustrated the plans of the governor?
Constitutionally speaking, the inauguration was legal and it has been confirmed my the APC chairman in Edo state.

I'm not justifying anything. We have seen worse before. Anything that could go wrong in governance has gone wrong before under PDP.

All PDP apologists simply get annoyed when you remember them of all the madness that has happened under the party's regime but only want to put the blames on APC government.

Bunch of hypocrites.
Actually it is far worse now and that is why sane Nigerians wonder what the change crap was all about if it was merely to continue and even worsen the ills already experienced and suffered in Nigeria. APC was supposed to come and right wrongs or at least set the pace for that in its first term then consolidate going forward not to worsen and still dodge responsibility for their failures. When attention is drawn to the rubbish you claim that it had happened before under PDP so why bother and pretend to know how to do better?
