Let's desist from misconstruing simple statements, shall we?... Regardless of culture or demography, what business does a grown man without a financial backbone have getting married, and starting a family?.. Would you bless your daughter's marriage to a man without a good income or source of income?...

Everything is not about feminism or sexism... It's just common sense.

Sir, i humbly request we look into this holistically, he said ''commitment'' meaning- the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. it doesn't matter whether you have it all but still show concern not that a man will be stealing his wife money to drink & sleep with prostitute while she is away working out for there love and defending her home while the man is keeping side chick, it's a different case if he loose his job. A woman who foot the bills in the house is the same as the woman called a widow and can never be happy all the days of her life regardless of the love. He is even fair by mentioning domestic bills, when a woman is the anchor, then she is prone to attack, especially when her boss insist she sleeps with him and she has no choice against her will but such treat doesn't so much befall men, the woman is nothing but a miserable woman. Am not married but am not an advocate of woman footing the bills but i agree with splitting and supporting formula. if you agree with this this point kindly like and if otherwise, share. #womendeservesgoodlife.

Idiotic pastors everywhere.

Always playing to the gallery just to satisfy his female audience.

Who doesn't know that finance is a very big issue to be considered in marriage?

But the question then is, what have this pastor and other charlatans like him contributed towards ensuring that employment is created so that men (and even the women themselves) will be gainfully employed?

Nothing.

I tire for this Bishop o! Wetin na?

Financial or no Financial commitment, individual differences come to play whenever decisions are to be made concerning marriages. I have seen women that sponsored their spouses' education and even went further to secure jobs for them, and even contributed more resources to have befitting wedding with them. I can tell you categorically that they are happily married with grown up children today. Not all men who are financially handicapped are worthless and ungrateful as you may think.

Take your advise to financially independence ladies who are still single at 40 and see if they would listen to you pastor. Aunty Linda even try to buy love but for her unserious lover, she would have been married by now.

It will even interest you to know that Nigerian economy provides better job opportunities to women than the men folk. Men has to double their hustle to meet their needs these days. If you are not into shady dealings like yahoo, yahoo+, kidnapping, smuggling, robbery, stealing, gigolo and the rest, to have a better standard of living might be a joke unless God just favour you.

God favour? Yes, I mean. I remember how my brother's wife helped him out of poverty. The woman happened to be a cashier in one company and she been working in that company for about 10 years. My brother was a Branch Manager in one of the popular insurance company but what he earns at the time was nothing compares to his wife. When the madam who owns the company decided to permanently leave the country to canada because all her children and grand children are permanent residence there, she just transfered her multi-million naira business and some properties to my brother's wife as a compensation for her commitment and loyalty. As i write now, my brother his building his second duplex at ikotun. They now use their own private cars though living a moderate life.

BluntBoy:

Which makes it bad advice.

How should a man show commitments financially before marriage?

The Bible is quite conservative when it comes to dating.

I was a little less conservative by even discussing terms such as love and respect.

I will take it that Abioye wants to be more accommodating by considering the modern trend of dating and financial commitments to somebody you are not responsible to under the laws of the land and church.

Even at that, it is still bad advice.

At bolded being the bone of contention, I agree...
Being a big spender sends the wrong message to some women, after a time, everything becomes the issue of bills

What does "financial commitment" mean according to Mr Pastor? He should have explained better..

But the fact is that this over monetisation of everything about men's suitability puts women at a disadvantage. For every financially stable guy, and let's say for every ONE guy that makes plus or minus a modest N5m annually, there are thousands of women jostling for his attention because he meets their unreasonable criteria.

Okay, so you're a high class babe. A graduate of Unilag and you work in one decent firm, and you're reasonably exposed. So you think you deserve a guy with a minimum of the above-mentioned standard. But the problem is that even the low class girl from Ajangbadi with incomplete WAEC, who is still struggling to write JAMB or doing secretarial work in a one man company somewhere, is also your competitor, looking for the same guy you're looking for. Her only 'qualification' is her fine face, or nice shape, or bustiness, or yanshiness, or whatever else that adds up to the feminine appeal that is the major thing that Nigerian women have to offer Nigerian men! Your degrees and job experience matters little to most men who meet your lofty criteria. Forget what they say. That's the truth. At the end, they just want to have a sexy thing with a good character beside them,. Certificate gbakwa okwu.

So with this wide net of 10,000 girls (poor or rich, graduate or uneducated) to one 'suitable' guy, how will this disequilibrium resolve itself?

Entitled women go suffer well well for this Nigeria. It is happening already. I know exactly what I'm talking about.

sir, the way we see things is most times the exact way it appears to us. so many times opportunities strikes our ways but ignorance and negligence wave them away from our path. Problems are less when the duo gets it right from the scratch but only if we want to be lazy. Am a man and not yet married but when you hear some disgusting stories, you will be shocked. Imagine a man resigns from his job because he was angry and also after all his wife has a good job. Hatred is a catalyst, that is why victims make greater achievement that the pampered ones, yes the economy is harsh but you have to give all what it legally demand. The man of God hasn't said something bad, it's the same advice you will give your child too when you become a mother or father. Note: Attack the man and not the church because God doesn't leave his enemies unpunished.

In as much as I like n respect pastor Abioye messages, I don't think this teaching above is right. Women r referred to as help mates in marriage. So, I don't think is a sin for a woman to shoulder d family expenses when she is financially above the husband. Husband n wive r one united body in christ, reason the Bible say they should separate from their parents n live as one. How will a woman feel when her husband is struggling financially n she refuse to render help to him when she is buoyant. A respected n God fearing woman will help her husband with all that she has in other to build her home.

What SageMK simply means is: the moment the modern Nigerian lady expects her husband to be the major financial provider in the family, then she should be submissive. Nothing like do the chores or help in the kitchen. The man provides, she submits. As odd as it sounds in this age, that is the result from having the man as the major financial provider.

He who pays the piper dictates the tune.
