People,

I reside in Lagos and it still beats me that the best our government can think of is to keep buying buses for transportation in the guise of "mass transit system".

Previous schemes failed and we still see the same thing being done over and over again. We can all remember LSTC and the new City Bus scheme. Every system was run down. Tax payers' money.

Now is time for BRT, but can it be sustained and the vehicles properly maintained? It is even more worrisome as Ikorodu road is being turned a 1-lane expressway.

I can forsee the chaos, road traffic and accidents that will be caused thru the restriction of vehicles and the road dividers being constructed

Lagos deserves a better transport scheme. It looks as if we have run out of ideas that can benefit over 14 million Lagosians.

Can we not build subways, fast trains, light rails, etc and other mass transit systems in Nigeria? We have the money now,

What do u guys think?

i agree.we need a more becoming transport system for nigeria.at least lagos and abuja if not one other should have a subway/underground rail system.thats in addition to a proper nationwide train system.anyone wit common sense knows that rail is the safest means of transport,maybe apart from sea[and leg].any caring leaders would develop these safe means for their people especially wit d ever growing risks of travelling by road and air in nigeria.wit a budget of almost 2 trillion naira,d govmnt should allocate some money to that or at least work wit foreign private investors to implement it.implementation has always been our problem.apart from that problem,u can imagine how much of the budget will end up in miscellaneous accounts[swiss]

@kaypinchi

You are definately right, the brt wouldn't solve lagos' traffic situation, we need a light rail/subway system in place.  The problem is the source of power for such initiative. We have to find a reliable source of energy to power any light rail/subway we may have in place. God forbid NEPA strikes power goes out while the train is in-transit, my brother, that would not be funny.
