President Donald Trump has said further measures will be imposed on Iran after the country downed one of its surveillance drones.

Russia says it will counter "illegal" sanctions Donald Trump plans to impose on Iran after the downing of a US drone.

Deputy foreign minister Sergei Ryabkov has not revealed what steps Russia would take in response to the measures taken by Donald Trump aimed at stopping the country from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Mr Ryabkov has said sanctions would increase tensions and that Washington should instead be seeking dialogue with Tehran, according to Russian news agencies.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the measures set to be imposed on the Middle Eastern country are illegal.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has arrived in Saudi Arabia where he has met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman amid heightened tensions with Iran - a rival of the Arab kingdom.


Mr Pompeo said he would be talking to officials in the Persian Gulf as well as Asia and Europe as he sets out to build an international coalition against Tehran.

He said the US is prepared to negotiate with Iran, but repeated Mr Trump's claim that new US sanctions will be imposed on Monday.

The world needs peace and enough of these bloodshed due to ego.

Russia too dey make noise, everyone knows they don't have any money or clout to counter any sanctions. The ones that were imposed last time were they able to counter any of them?

if it comes to war iran and all it's proxies including Hezbollah will be wiped out in less than a month if the US decides to bring down the full force of it's military on them and Russia won't do a thing. They can't afford to put the life of their own citizens at risk because of iran. That's the US alone not to talk of if Israel and the gulf powers decide to.join in. Iran is just blowing a lot of hot air, they know they are no match to the US. Saddam Hussein did more than this, we know how it ended for him

Of course the U.S will defeat them in no time but what happens after? Iran is not Iraq and most middle east countries will suffer the rippling effect of a war with Iran.
