Alode Alode is a town in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. It is located at the western part of Eleme called Nchia. Alode is bounded by several Eleme communities and at the SouthWestern end of the town is the Okrika river. The vegetation of the area ranges from Tropical Rainforest to Mangrove swamp forest at the Southwestern end. The topography of the land is Deltaic Alluvial Plain. The area derives it's name from "Alu Oden" which means "Area of Blacksmithing" in Eleme language. It was a home to many great Warriors, Magicians and Blacksmiths. Culture Alode people have rich cultural heritage. Nkpaa Egoni and Egelege are their favourite talking drums, with several cultural societies in the area. Sub-clans and Group of Houses Alode is partitioned into three sub-clans which includes: Alu Ngwa Obini Ngwa Ekekua There are Seven major Group of Houses which fall under the above sub-clans. They are: Akara Akaraolu Acharama Efere Ewika Ollorte Onimbie There are other newly developed residential areas which includes: Nkpaala Mbuma-Eta Eken-Ogban Ekpo-Onandorwa etc. Religion Ancient Alode community practiced African Traditional Religion until 1910 when St Stephens Anglican Church was established in the area. The establishement of St Stephen Anglican Church in Alode became known as the dawn of civilization in Elemeland. The Church was established alongside a School known as St Stephens School and a Court. Until date, the church still retains her place as Alode institution and is the home church of The Most Reverend [Ignatius Kattey], Dean Emeritus, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion. Occupation Alode people are predominantly farmers with fishing as a minor occupation. Due to the rapid industralization in Eleme, the people now glamour to work in the industries. Though a few of the population are still Civil servants and Preachers. Industries Alode plays host and co-host to several Companies located at Onne and other parts of Eleme. Some of the companies operating on Alode land includes: Port Harcourt Refinning Company Solewant Pipe Coating Plant Enercon Energy Nigeria Gas Plant Notore Chemical Company. Notable Institutions Institutions in Alode includes: Community Secondary School, Alode Milly International Academy, Alode Ngoleks Schools, Alode Obari Eeh Model School, Alode Hotels and Recreational facilities There are so many Hotels in Alode. Most of these hotels are mostly used by Oil Company Staffs in the various industries in Eleme. The hotels includes: Seco Hotel, Alode Prudence Home, Alode Ngabe Hotel, Alode Liquid Gold Hotel, Alode Kenkriss Hotel, Alode Feedos Hotel, Alode Goshens Hotel, Alode Dobeks Hotel, Alode Maestro Rose Hotel, Alode Environmental Challenges Alode is heavily impacted with hydrocarbon. UNEP reported high pollution of hydrocarbon in Alode and samples were taken from various sites including Nkeleoken 1 and 2; Oken-eta 1,2, and 3; and Ekpo ona ndorwa. The Alode Eleme impacted sites have been handed over to contractors for clean-up. Solewant Nigeria Limited, a $48billion paint and cement pipe coating factory and African largest coating plant was officially commissioned at Alode in 2016. Destination Guide Alode in Eleme (Rivers State) is a place in Nigeria about 296 mi (or 477 km) south of Abuja, the country's capital city. The closest airport in Nigeria is Port Harcourt International Airport in a distance of 20 mi (or 32 km), North-West.[8].
