IT is bizarre but true.

A forty-one-year-old man has been sexually involved with his daughter, aged 10, and has confessed to the act.

He blames it all on the Devil which, he says, pushed him to the incestuous act over and over until the daughter, now 16, became pregnant.

The man, Sunday Olanrele, was paraded by the Lagos State Police command yesterday.

The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the state's Police command, Mr. Adesanya Jinadu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told journalists that the victim, Bidemi, had also been confirmed to be five months pregnant.

The suspect, who was paraded alongside the victim and her mother, Toyin Akande, blamed it on spiritual attack.

Olanrele, who resides in Ojodu area of Lagos, said he was usually seized by a strange spirit that aroused an irresistible sexual urge in him, whenever he sighted the victim.

He said further: “Each time I see her, I feel a serious urge to have sex with her. I am a mechanic (automobile mechanic) and Bidemi is my daughter. She does not live with me because her mother and I are divorced. It is true I have been having sex with her, but I don't know why I have been doing it. I usually regain my senses after making love to her. I want God to forgive me. What I have done is an abomination and I will want her to abort the pregnancy because it is a taboo.”

In her own account, the victim, who was living with her aunt, said her father had sex with her the first time when she was 10 years old and had gone to visit him.

She said he continued doing so at every opportunity, while threatening that she would die if she told anyone about it, until she became pregnant.

Her words: “My father came to my aunt's place, where I was staying one day, when I was 10 years old. He told her he was taking me to the beach. But, he took me to his house and forced me to have sex with him. Again, when I was 15, I went to him to collect my school fees and had to stay with him for a week. During this period, he slept with me when he returned from work every night. Whenever he finished having sex with me, he would bring out a calabash filled kolanuts from under his bed and would force me to eat one of them with him. He would, thereafter, threaten that I would die if I told anyone what was going on between us. Things continued this way anytime I visited him, until I became pregnant.”

The victim's mother said she perceived the odour of sperm on the young lady's body one day, after the daughter returned from a visit to the suspect and, consequently, forced her to confess by taking her to a pastor, who asked her to swear by the Bible, if she was certain nothing was indeed wrong with her.

Jinadu said preliminary investigations suggested that the suspect started having sex with the victim since she was 10 years and was also the one that deflowered her.

He further disclosed that the suspect was exposed after the victim's mother suspected that something was wrong with her and forced her to confess what had been happening.

Jinadu described the act as a crime, adding that the command would ensure the suspect got the maximum punishment for the offence.
