A crowded highway in suburban Atlanta turned into a lottery payday for several drivers.

Drivers pulled over and scrambled out of their vehicles when an armored truck's door accidentally swung open while driving along Interstate 285 Tuesday evening -- spilling cold, hard cash everywhere.

Video shows dozens of drivers pulling over to the side of the road in Dunwoody, Georgia, and dashing for the cash. Even a semitrailer hauling timber is pulled over to the side of the road in the video shot by an eyewitness.

Dunwoody Sgt. Robert Parsons estimated about $175,000 spilled out onto the highway.

Bad news for the drivers who thought it was manna from heaven! The police have issued a statement asking them to return the money or face prosecution — a felony or misdemeanor charge, depending on the amount they scooped up.

Dey don't need to know U returned all, d fear of spending d money will make U return it.. All dey have to do is flag d serial numbers of d bundles which fell off and U cannot spend dat money anywhere in d country without being caught

Correct. It's no doubt, theft. They need to return it. But if one grabbed say $10k and returned just $1 to $2k, how would they verify how much that person picked. And, it is possible some who picked some cash had already spent them.....perhaps bought stuffs from the next shop, or paid someone else they are owed??

I agree with you 100%. I am only trying to analyze the whole situation. For instance, this thing happened Tuesday evening. If not that it was shared it here, would you have known. Same over there, I believe many people don't still know? Now, what if someone had already paid you with that money perhaps in your shop and you can't even trace the customer. Even if you trace him/her, what if the person tells you that the money was paid to him/her by someone else.....etc, etc....


For instance, see a comment made by someone few minutes ago in one popular American discussion forum like this one:

"Let them find a good establishment in the hood and that money is spent lol. it's gonna take a while before that money makes it to any place that will even pay attention to those numbers. who knows how many hands it will have passed through by then."

Also remember all d driver needs to do is dial 911 and I'm sure U know how fast their response to any call is.. Once dey flag d money, even if dem don spend am, whoever dem give d money will easily identify who come spend d money.. Those ppl have a record of basically everything nd every one... Integrity or not, if d money has been spent, dey'll retrieve d money from where dey spent it

Even without calling 911 though, there are cameras and we can clearly see those individuals and their cars as shown on the video. But, do you know there are some homeless people badly hit by economic crisis, and others who do not have integrity and fear of God that will prefer going to jail than returning a dime? Perhaps those who grabbed 20k, 30, 40, ...even 5k...They will spend it on innocent people who do not know the source of the money and are completely unaware about it...just as those spending counterfeits now.


Integrity and fear of God matter a lot in all we do. Others are secondary...
