Supremacy of His Will

TEXT: Ezekiel 39:1-16

"So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel" (Ezekiel 39:7).

How dangerous and foolhardy is it to knowingly grip a high tension live wire with bare hands! And how suicidal is it for a man to stand in the way of a fast moving train! But it is sad to note that, dangerous as these ventures may be, many people have taken similar decisions that caused them painful deaths and led them to eternal woes.

The Lord will make the most careless and hardened transgressors know His holy name, either by His righteous anger, or by the riches of His mercy and grace. Though the prophecy in our key verse is to be fulfilled in the latter days, it is certain from the language used in our text that the army of Gog will be destroyed by miracle. The book of Revelation explains in clear terms what will become of Gog and Magog.

History is sufficient to convince us about those enemies whom God destroyed in defense of His people Israel! And this should serve as a reassurance that God is still in the business of protecting His people, whether as individuals or as a group. And so, believers in Christ are kept by the power of God. We have read of Abraham’s wife when she was snatched by a wicked king; of Israelites when they were delivered out of Egypt; of Prophet Elisha when a host of enemy army surrounded his house, and how David got his people and property back through the instrumentality of a weak enemy left behind by his gang.

Times of great deliverances should be times of reformation. Everyone should help to the utmost, towards cleansing the land from reproach. Sin is an enemy every man should strive against. Then God will make His name known in such individuals’ lives and in the nations at large. It pays better to live for God and for our good.
