Identity crisis is NOT a new phenomenon, it's a global facet that affects all people. The Nigerian one is quite unique in the sense of it been a denial of those Igboid subgroups for mainly political reasons, than personal conviction. I have interacted with lots of these demography of Igboid groups that deny their Igboness even with all the glaring facts that they are Igbo... and majority of them are mostly from the Ika areas, and of course a considerable number of my Ikwerrre friends as well also swear they are not Igbos... but while I respect their decisions however distorted and self-indicting their arguments typically are, it's also worth noting that these set of people are just "products of the unfortunate Nigerian system", and they represent only 5% of the Igbo nation. For all its worth, the Igbo consciousness is as ever stronger than it was before, more and more people in the "Igbo denial" nomenclature are already waking up to reality, and are quickly consolidating their awareness on a level so unprecedented, you have to attend more Igbo cultural group events home and abroad to understand this...the new converts are becoming even more radicalized in the Igbo consciousness than the most Igbotic person you will ever come across.
