On the 6th day of August 2019, Campus Torch launched the TeachMeCoding Campaign in selected schools in Lagos. Teach Me Coding is an initiative aimed at raising 10,000 young software developers in Africa, starting with Nigeria before June 2020, it is inspired by the need to equip and develop next generation with the skill and ability to positively influence the future using tech as a tool.

‘According to World Economic Forum, Coding among other tech skills will be the most sorted after industry starting 2022. Our goal is to train 10,000 brilliant students in the 36 states of Nigeria before 2020 so they can be relevant before the set time. With the readily available software, resources and materials we are sure to hit the target. We of course need the support of every Educational Institutions, Communities and Organizations’, said one of the initiators of the campaign while responding to questions from the Press.

In an exclusive with the founders of Campus Torch, Taiwo and Kehinde Ogunde, the duo stated that the Campaign is starting with Lagos and will be reaching other states in South-West and South-East before the end of the year; while a new focus will be geared towards the North and South-South before June 2020.

“Everyone should know how to code regardless of your field or your aspirations, it enhances problem solving ability and aids thinking process; Students’ especially need to understand line of codes when they see it and should be able to interpret it in graphical forms; we are more concerned about young people, what they can create and achieve after their studies because they are the future.

This is a very good start; the excitement from and curiosity to learn; these were the feedback we got from Lagos and with the help of God we’ll reach further. Someday coding will be a part of the teaching curriculum for Schools in Nigeria”, they concluded.

We urge everyone to join the movement with the hashtag #TeachMeCoding and support Campus Torch to achieve this goal. Follow and Connect with them @CampusTorch on all Social Media Platforms
