Hello fellow nairalanders I was moved and encouraged by chimauga's odeal he suffered in the hands of the indonesian immigration authorities to share my experience back in 2014 the story thus goes like this :
On the 10th of September 2014, I took an Ethiopia airline for a masters class program in the capital city dar es Salam (Tanzania) although the program was scheduled for both dar es Salam and the coastal city Mombasa (Kenya) but mombasa was later cancelled, however, i lodged in an hotel in (morogoro) this is an area which is an outskirts of the capital dar es Salam my first hotel was Sawe hotel paying (24000 Tz shillings) with full a/c, DStv, comfortable and spacious room/ per day and surprisingly was less than 3k in Nigerian naira as at 2014 and I was to spend 14 days on the trip and I had already made my hotel itineraries for dar es Salam and (Zanzibar Islands) a colony island off the coast of Tanzania and I had also planned to visit (Kenya) to meet up with my friend whom I had promised to that I would visit.
After the 4 days intensive masters class program I was now free to browse around the city of dar es Salam which I later found to be quite interesting, I visited quite a number of places which included (kariakoo) I also visited (mikumi national park) I ate lots of assorted meat, drank the local beer popularly called (kilimanjaro beer) for about 2000 shillings (less than #200) at that time quite cheap if you ask me! I ate (ughali) this is a kind of semovita eating with raw tomatoes, onions and roasted meat which is popular in Tanzania, I then further went to (posta) which is like our own Victoria Island or ikoyi to book for a speed ferry boat mostly for tourists, the ferry boat is also called (kilimanjaro's) consist of about four of the ferries fleets kilimanjaro's 1-4, my tour agent in (posta) made a combine tour for me which included visiting (Zanzibar Islands) by ferry (the kilimanjaro) for a few days and subsequently traveling by road to mombasa (Kenya)
I had a great time in Zanzibar islands it was wow! I visited places like stone town, numerous beaches with nice cristal clear sea you would expect to see in Zanzibar with also warm and lovely people, after the few days I left Zanzibar very early in the morning back to (posta) in dar es Salam to board the bus heading for mombasa Kenya, we waited for the passengers to fill up the bus which included Africans and Europeans alike, we left posta at about 7:30 am to begin a journey that would take almost 8 hours by road to get to (Lunga Lunga).
Now, (Lunga Lunga) is the Kenyan side of the border while (Horohoro) is the Tanzanian side of the border hence, it is called horohoro/lunga lunga border.
We all came out from the air conditioned luxurious bus in the horohoro side of the border to get our passports stamped by the Tanzanian immigration authorities, after stamping our passports we then walk to the lunga lunga Kenyan side of the border to be attended to by the kenyan's immigration authorities there, meanwhile at the course of the journey from posta I noticed that I was the only Nigerian in that bus other nationals were few European but mostly Tanzanians and Kenyans.
When it got to my turn to present my passport immediately one of the Kenyan immigration officers on sighting the green ECOWAS passport in my hand collected it and took it to there superior officer, he later came back and told me that I could not enter Kenya! At this point my bus driver with other passengers were waiting for me to join them, so I asked the immigration officer Why can't I pass to Kenya? My documents were complete and intact, I even had with me my yellow card! Remember! This was in 2014 at the time when Ebola was still ravaging in west Africa I now began to wonder could it be the reason for the refusal? So I asked the officer again but he told me they won't allow me to pass but I could go ahead and see there superior officer in his office so I went in to see the officer and demanded to know what the problem was? He then asked me why didn't I go by air? And my answer was that I loved sight seeing hence I opted for the roads, I then asked him is it because of the Ebola case in west Africa that has prompted the refusal? He said No, but then told me if I wanted to pass I should pay him $200 (USD) which was separate from the $50 (USD) official visa fee stamp! I then asked him why should I pay such an amount? He became angry and asked me to leave his office, in any case, I told him to his face that this was an extortion he wanted against me and I would rather go back to tanzania than to pay any thing more than $50 (USD) being the official visa stamp fee, i came out of his office then told the waiting driver of the luxury bus to continue the journey without me, at this time it was pass 5pm so I boarded another bus coming from Kenya to (tanga) a small city about 3 hours from horororo and lodged there for the night before embarking back to dar es Salam.

Hahaha, the part you said 'thank God Singapore don't collect bribe' got me laughing!.. Well I guess that was my story anyways, I went back to dar es Salam spent the remaining days with the new friends I met in the program I went for, I met a very nice lady who became my girlfriend as at that time she kept me company throughout my remaining days in Tanzania even though she couldn't speak English fluently but we understood ourselves very well, kiswahili is there regular day to day language in Tanzania.

Same thing happened to me in 2014...i flew to kampala uganda for a short visit, stayed for a week and then decided to travel to kenya by road...On getting to the border, the immigration officer just saw my Ecowas passport and said hey you Nigerian go back i am not giving you a visa...i just had to laugh so loud that he heard and was really wondering why i would laugh despite his refusal to give me a visa...i just kept that smile on my face and acted like i didnt even hear what he said and stayed on the line till it got to my turn.
My turn came,i dashed in my passport into the counter still smiling and he still insisted on not giving me a visa on arrival...I boldly said and spoke like a real naija guy "OGA OPEN THAT PASSPORT AND STAMP ME IN JARE"he opened it and saw a kenyan visa i had gotten at the embassy in dar es salaam bfor my trip cos i knew they wld wana extort me...He looked and felt so ashamed and embarrassed that he was even trying to give me like 4 days and i was like" oga i am spending just a day cos i'm headed to mombasa to take a bus to Tanga...Those kenyan immigration officials are thieves
