Sanusi-Chidoka Joint Ticket: Antidote to Tinubu, Panacea to Poor Governance

By Ugonna Utulor.

The wheels have started turning again. The key players have started meeting in secret places. Meetings in high places. Meetings by power brokers. To the nonobservant 2023 is still faraway but to the political strategist, 2023 is nearer than tomorrow.

It's not to be unexpected that 2023 will throw surprises nor should it be believed that 2023 will be business as usual. In circulation already are campaign memorabilia bearing the name and insignias of the Jagaban of Borgu, the Lion of Bourdillion, the Controller, Mover, Shaker, all-in-all of Eko and the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While it must be noted that Tinubu has come out, or his surrogates have come out, to deny his connection to these campaign memorabilia, ubiquitous posters and billboards, it must be known that a smoke can never be seen where there's no fire.

Indeed, the handwriting has been on the walls for so long. Bola Ahmed Tinubu or BAT has always wanted to be president. Otherwise, why would he seek in both 2011 and 2015 to be Vice Presidential candidate to northern presidential candidates of the ACN in 2011 and APC in 2015 if not in hope that they will win and he, in eight years' time, could become president? Its a smart calculation, genius even and should be seen in the context of the unwritten law of north-south power federal power sharing cum power rotation. In seeking to be Vice President in those elections Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in effect positioning himself for president.

His 2015 ambition to be Vice President was most spectacular. Once he was certain the ACN-CPC-ANPP-APGA alliance would stick, he wasted no time making moves to deputize Muhammadu Buhari who from the onset was destined to bear the APCs flag or broom if you like. It was rumoured that it was on the premise that he would deputize Buhari that he had agreed to work with Buhari and deliver all of ACNs primary votes to the CPC leader. This rumour seems to not have been unfounded as Tinubus Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) did not field any candidate in APCs presidential primary of December 10, 2014 that produced General Muhammadu Buhari as presidential candidate.

But Tinubus ambition to be Vice President in 2015 was to be scuttled by the decamping elements from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). These were men who foresaw the future and wished to rescue Nigeria from an impending danger.

Senator Bukola Saraki, Governors Magatakarda Wamakko of Sokoto and Abdul'aziz Yari of Zamfara state never let their eyelids close until they were certain Tinubu wouldn't be vice president. While they told Nigerians and about just anyone that wanted to hear it, that their opposition to Tinubu was to ensure that a Muslim-Muslim ticket was avoided in the interest of national unity, the more plausible reason is that they themselves had political ambitions, big ambitions, and didn't wish to have a too powerful Tinubu as an opponent in 2023.

These men may have succeeded in stymieing Tinubu's ambition in 2015 but as it stands today none of them is in a positions to scuttle his ambition in 2023.

This shouldn't catch anyone unaware. For, it was Tinubu himself, who like a lion wounded in battle and angry for revenge, spent his last kobo to diminish his antagonists.

In 2015, Saraki began perceiving the malodorous stink of what is to come. Opposition to his Senate presidency ambition, persecutions at the hands of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), negative press coverage from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway media houses and several other happenstances that portended danger kept knocking at his door, blown by a South-west trade wind that had Jagaban written all over it.

But while Senator Bukola Saraki was able to scale through these trials and temptations, the straw that broke the camel's back was total, almost fatal defeat of Bukola Saraki in the 2019 election in which Saraki lost his seat and all his candidates lost in a state that has been under the political control of the Saraki dynasty since 1979. Tinubu had marshalled resources in trillions and spent more in propaganda to make sure that Saraki was destroyed. To add salt to injury, Tinubu even had to use Saraki's sister, Gbemisola Saraki, as an enemy from within, one that soon proved to be deadlier than any other.

That defeat is a humiliation that Saraki may never recover from. And while he may try to, his opponents even in the PDP, will keep reminding him of it and his allies may never even take him seriously again. A political featherweight is at best a liability and Ahmed Tinubu had succeeded in reducing Abubakar Bukola Saraki to a political featherweight.

Of the other key players that denied Tinubu the Vice Presidency in 2015, one, Magatakarda Wamakko, has been annihilated into political oblivion without Tinubu in the picture. The other, Abdul'aziz Yari of Zamfara imploded Zamfara APC and with it his political career. Either by design or accident those who opposed Tinubu in 2015 have now been destroyed, leaving Tinubu with no real political opponent.

Which poses the question: who will save Nigeria from Tinubu in 2023? For it is true that Tinubu certainly knows how to handle power, yet he is not blessed in management of the people's resources. This means that if a Tinubu becomes president in 2023, Nigeria could be sold in wholesale and the proceeds would end up in an underground bunker in his Burdullion residence.

It's without question that Tinubu, as national leader and with unfettered access to the partys register, is in firm control of the APC and since the APC is now postured to zone the presidency to the south region of Nigeria, a Tinubu presidency is very likely.

We may even have a worst case scenario in which we are going to have two presidents. One, an official president in the person of current Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and an unofficial yet more powerful President Bola Tinubu. Either way, without a stronger opposition, a president Tinubu, like winter, is coming.

And that is why I have had to sit down. To think. As a young man who is concerned about Nigeria, informed enough on both our past and our present I can predict the future. Tinubu will be a disaster for Nigeria but who will stop him?

I sought all over the country. And over and over again just one name kept ringing a bell in my ears. One name backed up by another. Two names then, singing aloud in my head. I leapt up in joy, a ray of hope spreading across the country from North to South and then East to West; from Lagos to Lafia and then Abuja to Aba.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Emir of Kano and Osita Chidoka, former Aviation Minister and UPP gubernatorial candidate in the Anambra State election of 2017.

Tested and trusted, intelligent, detribalized, accomplished and well loved, the duo represents the Nigeria that we have always wished for.

It was Sanusi, as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, that reformed the Nigeria banking sector and laid the foundation for the strong banks we have today. He championed causes, spoke truth to power, sacrificed his career to save Nigeria and stabilized our economy with robust monetary policies. He offered help to SMEs, giving loans and facilitating the injection of much needed forex that kept the economy strong.

Osita Chidoka needs no introduction. Isn't it a tragedy that the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) of today cannot match up what Chidoka was able to do with that commission? He instilled discipline, diligence, dedication to duty and transparency. At the time, secondary school students occasionally went on tours to FRSC offices, asking questions, learning and looking up to life heroes molded in the image of Chidoka and his workaholic road safety officials. And as Minister of Aviation, his records are in public domain, exceptional, unmatched, exemplary.

In two years, Osita Chidoka will emerge as the biggest political player in the South East. I can assure you, without mincing words, that Chidoka is the next governor of Anambra state.

If there's therefore going to be a North-East alliance, credible candidates with enough political clouts will be chosen from both regions in a joint ticket that will re-echo the Torfa-Ugo ticket of 1993.

Remember, Chief Sylvester Ugo was the running mate of Alhaji Bashir Torfa in the National Republican Convention (NRC) joint ticket of 1993. Do not sleep on it, intrigues and underground works have started.

I identified these individuals and hope that eminent Nigerians will prevail upon them to contest in 2023. The people of Kano should be pleaded with to loan Nigeria their Emir and the good people of Anambra state will, in love for our country, allow their great son to join the revered Emir. Nigerians should plead with these men and ask them to jump into the next available bus and embark on this journey whose last bus stop is national rescue mission. Because if they do, they will be killing two birds with one stone: they will cure Nigeria of Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) and they will heal Nigeria of poor governance.

People are fundamentally and foundationally funny.

Chidoka the next governor of anambra state.

This is more than wild dreams and that's to show the op doesn't know anything about anambra political settings.

He knows nothing about anambra state.

Leave Chidoka out of your equation, he is the incoming Governor of ANAMBRA.

Tinubu is never a threat. If Buhari, a supposed god in the North had to resort to rigging to perpetuate himself in power, then the tijanniya thief is nothing.

He can't even defeat Osinbanjo is a free and fair election not to talk of an Atiku, a Kwankwaso or Tambuwal.

Please leave Sanusi out of your political calculations. He has enough on his hands already in Kano. Whatever combinations you guys want to come up with, bring it on and we shall meet you at the polls.

Chidoka is overrated in my honest opinion. He is all flash and pizzazz, with no proven substance. It's not by doing fine boy with swag and package all over the place.

He's just a destiny boy whose palm kernels were cracked by benevolent spirits. What's his pedigree and achievements? Obasanjo picked him from nowhere as a small boy to head the FRSC (the story behind this choice is now stale). After that after some time in hibernation, Goodluck appointed him Minister of Aviation. That's about it.

Comparing him to an accomplished titan like Peter Obi would be an insult.

Peter Obi remains the best choice for any shot of Ndigbo at the presidency - whether as principal candidate or as running mate.
