I personally believe that one can attain the status of the Prophet. Attaining the same level or status / rank of a Prophet doesn't mean you become a Prophet. We already know that prophethood has ended. But to say one cannot attain the spirituality and rank/level of a prophet is wrong.

ALLAAH (Glory Be To Him) is fair to all of HIS creation.

The Messenger of ALLAAH (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "ALLAAH, the Almighty, said: 'Those who love one another for the sake of My glory will have pulpits of light for which the prophets and martyrs will [b]envy [/b]them.'" Sahih/Authentic. - [At-Tirmidhi]

Prophet (ﷺ) as saying: There are people from the servants of ALLAAH who are neither prophets nor martyrs; the prophets and martyrs will envy them on the Day of Resurrection for their [b]rank [/b]from ALLAAH, the Most High. (Abu Dawud , Sahih)
