Gombe State government and Bangladesh have expressed readiness to collaborate in area of trade, agriculture, education and other sectors.

The High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr. Shameem Ahsan disclosed this during a meeting with Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya in Abuja.

The Senior Special Assistant (Media & Publicity) to Gombe Governor, Ismaila Uba Misilli hinted that their discussion centred around exploring and promoting mutually beneficial investment and business opportunities between Bangladesh and Gombe state.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya who highlighted some of the abundant resources of the State, said Gombe is an agrarian area with vast potentials in cotton, rice and other crops production with 3 dams in Dadinkowa, Cham and Balanga to support irrigation farming and other agricultural and business activities which Bangladesh can take advantage of.

He said" Our state is at the centre of the North-east, but despite the challenges of insurgency in the sub region, Gombe is enjoying relative peace with a lot of potentials for businesses to link up and thrive. We can collaborate with you in cotton production, especially with Bangladesh having garment/ textile industries that rely on importation of raw materials. We can also partner in rice cultivation, processing, milling and production. Our state has a highly industrious population and we must look for ways and means through this type of engagement to explore opportunities for them to excel in their respective ventures. I therefore consider this visit as a beginning of a robust relationship between our state and your country and we look forward to receiving you soon in Gombe where we'll showcase more of our potentials and collaborative business opportunities".

Earlier, the High Commissioner, Mr Shameem Ahsan informed Governor Yahaya that he was at the Gombe state Governor's Lodge in Abuja to key into Yahaya's investment drive and explore ways of collaboration between Gombe state and his country.

He said Bangladesh and Nigeria have a lot in common, and therefore can partner with states such as Gombe for the common good of their respective peoples.

The envoy disclosed that his country is the second largest producer of garment with a thriving economy that bursts of 7.86 per cent growth rate but with abundant unexplored potentials.

He declared the readiness of his country to partner Gombe state in a symbiotic relationship in sectors such as agriculture, trade, education and other areas of common interests.
