Let Me Tell You About Post NYSC Shock! by careertips101(f): 10:23am On Aug 25, 2019
I know you are excited about NYSC and all the fun to be had especially in the first 3 weeks.

And believe me, there is fun to be had! Lagos and Abuja camps seem to have all the fun with all the shows, ecetera, ecetera. Now depending on what state you are posted, maximum fun is guaranteed.

Yes, yes, please, have all the fun but I want to be the person who tells you that unemployment is a real thing and you will most likely be broke during or throughout your NYSC service year and when you are done with your service, no one actually gives you the true picture of how much despair that hits with no solution in sight. Yes, post-NYSC shock is a thing and we don't talk about it enough!

This doesn't have to be you at all.

The first step to safe guarding yourself, is leveraging on the vast number of resources made available online before, during and after your NYSC service year. For instance, everyone is quick to state how the number of jobs are too small for the teeming Nigerian graduate.

This is not entirely true!

The issue worth addressing is this; an average Nigerian youth does not have the skills that most employers are looking for!

After all, no one talks about the fact that the current academic structure does do not transfer requisite employable skills during your study years.

Now here is the good news, I will be directing all future posts to all prospective and serving NYSC members and how you can hack post-NYSC unemployment, build employable skills that every employer seeks these days and land your first job right after NYSC.

My name is Steve, having worked in HR for almost a decade now, I want to help you be your best self.

If you are reading this and have completed your NYSC, I also need your help, well not for me but for any other person reading this post.

I want you to share your own story or experience after NYSC. Be it positive or negative.

Let me tell why I want you to do this;
1. Although people say "experience is a good teacher", we can also learn from the experiences of other people.
2. I want all readers to fully grasp how wide spread post-NYSC shock is.
