The G-Boys
(Beyond the scam)

Chapter 1

“The Chase”

For days, it had seem as though the concept of freedom was becoming increasing lost to Pius and his cohorts, the mood around the flat had remained tense and the news trickling in made matters worse. The signs around had made Pius wonder if perhaps he has reached his final destination and the only way to survive a deadly crash was to stop.

Like a scared rat being chased around the house, all his boys have been thrown into panic and the one rule which Pius made sure was never forgotten by his boys; had been ditched; like a game of chess, the king is protected at all cost because when the king is taken; every other army falls and boom! The game will be over even before it began. Pius was the king but loyalty ran thin among his armies who had begun to sell him out one betrayal at a time to save themselves from the full force of the law.

The Economic Financial and Crime Commission (EFCC) in charge of monitoring and persecuting financial crimes in the country were after Pius. Some of his boys had already given out vital information that was certain to send Pius to his grave; a grave he thought was still far off. At 25 years old, Pius had become a lord in the world of scam; earning millions of dollars from victims around the world.

Krrg krrg krrg… The phone rang endlessly. Pius who was seated silently on the brown couch by the white painted wall remained lost in his thoughts; it was as if his brain was doing the impossible- working faster than a computer’s brain; at least so he felt but somehow he could not think his way out of this. Finding a way out of the shores of the country was risky because at the moment his pictures was all over important check points across the country- he was on a no fly list.

“Boss ur phone dy ring” Chinonso called out to Pius who was lost in his own thoughts.
Dragged back to reality, Pius took his phone and answered.
“Whats up” Pius said as he picked up the call.
“Boss na Chukwudi, EFCC don grab Tony and I sure say en don cast ur location. Clear there sharperly”
“Shit!” Pius shouted into the phone. He immediately took the keys to his Mercedes Benz and made way to the door.
“Guys, make we clear. Ndi Ara EFCC no na uzo” He said, signaling to his boys of impending danger. Chinonso, Tunde and Ifeanyi grabbed keys to their various Benz and made way outside.
The house Pius lived in was a Terrance apartment in Karmo district of Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria; it was his safe haven away from the law. Despite what the Nigerian government and governments around the world have long labeled scam; Pius still saw his cause as a noble one- a narration which many youths had bought into.
Once in the car, the boys reversed and drove towards the gates, though they remained afraid and panting within, they tried not to draw the attention of the neighbors or the security guards who were at the entrance of the estate.
“Good afternoon sirs” the security man at the gate greeted.
Pius simply nodded in response as they all drove out. Turning left when they got to the end section of the estate road, they spotted few kilometers to the right, 3 white Toyota Hilux vehicles belonging to the Economic Financial Crimes Commission. With an accelerated power added to the vehicle, the boys swerved instantly. The men in the Hilux van having noticed the boy’s vehicle’s increased speed and the squeaking sound of the tires from the Benz indicated intent to speed off; the EFCC operatives immediately accelerated their vehicles and chased after the boys. They had identified the boy’s cars from the near distance and also from all evidences and descriptions of assert and persons involved in the scam ring.
The all black Benz was suddenly being put to test on efficiency and speed while the drivers drove like their life and freedom depended on it. It was a lonely residential neighborhood, beautified by the obvious presence of nature- Mountain and grasses stood side by side as beautiful houses around proved that nature and man can indeed coexist.
Pius was the smartest among the group and that was what earned him his fast money and respect among his pairs. It was as though his mind was thinking of possible scenarios and ways out in matter of seconds. He had begun to think of routes to take as the Hilux car speed towards them, he instantly took the first U-turn and veered to other side of the road, as his crews followed suit and so did the men in the Hilux who were catching up to them. Now in a straight open road, Pius quickened the movement of his vehicle because he knew his boys were right behind him and so were the EFCC operatives. The chase was intense and Pius crews remained in panicking state while Pius tried to remain brave, he believed being affright in such situation will inevitably lead to him making an error.
As the chase remained intense, panicking Tunde tried to swerve to the first left turn he saw but unlucky he was, as the swerve forced his vehicle tumbling to the other side. The EFCC operatives had a near miss as they took back control of their car and maintained their chase with the last vehicle of EFCC driving towards Tunde’s car that remains upside down. Each vehicle of EFCC had 4 men inside and that kept 8 men still on the tail of Pius and his men. Pius screamed out loud as he could see Tunde’s car tumbling like a rolling rock. He picked up his phone and conference called his remaining crew.
“Nnna eh. Tunde don go. Make una dy calm if not ndi Ara anuwa ga ajide ayi” Pius told his boys, reiterating need to remain calm despite the pressure.
“So wetin b plan now” Ifeanyi inquired.

LOL. i really think we are pass beyond the point where we are afraid of scaring foreigners. Everyone around the world already sees the worst in us...we might as well tell our stories ourself. Set our narrative. That is what brought about the book. Also, it doesnt focus on the scam only, it is a broader narrative on realities on ground etc.
as for The title is because scammers are known as yahoo boys, g-boys etc. So i went for G-boys.

Then you had to put Nigeria there?

Well I'm sure it will be a good book but make sure good triumphs over evil at the end.
