Staff of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Mrs. Udeh Deborah Ginika, who just came back from studies in France on scholarship, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office today, disclosed her meritorious academic sojourn in France.

Presenting the graduand to the Vice-Chancellor and other officers of the university, Director, French Centre, Dr. Nnenna Nwosu-Nworuh noted that Mrs Udeh left last year 2018 for France to study RNA and Enzyme Sciences and completed her M.Sc Degree in record time, coming out as best graduating student in her department.

Reacting to the cheering news, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, expressed joy for such milestone achievement but had reservation towards the Nigerian academic scenario, where seriousness is sacrificed on the altar of laziness and buck-passing. “The world outside there is characterized by culture of seriousness. Over there, number one offence is when a lecturer misses his/her lecture period”. It is better to train students under pressure because they come out refined and survive easily”, he stated.

In her response, Mrs Udeh thanked the University management for the Opportunity given to her to study in France and particularly in the University of Lorraine, Nancy. She stated that it was a memorable experience out there, where examinations are written bi-weekly, pointing out that the difference between education system there and here in Nigeria, is too wide to measure. She also confirmed that lecturers do not miss lecture schedules and are usually there for their students at all times. Mrs Udeh also noted that they not only meet schedules but are approachable, incorruptible, committed and take their jobs seriously, emphasizing that lecturers even show more commitment in teaching and articulating examination questions than the students under their tutelage.
