Corruption Perceptions Index-2010 was released yesterday by Transparency International (TI). Nigeria failed to achieve an improvement over last year.

In a scale of 0-10, Nigeria scored 2.4, the same as in 2009, and occupied 134th place among 178 countries featured in this year’s index.

Nigeria bagged the same score as Azarbaijan, Honduras, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Togo, Ukraine and Zimbabwe, all ranked in the 12th position from the bottom.

The downslide of one step from the 13th to the 12th position may not be significant because, in addition to the score of the country concerned, the ranking depends also on comparative performance of other countries and the number of countries included or excluded in the particular year.

“The results of this year’s CPI show again that corruption is a global problem that must be addressed in global policy reforms. It is commendable that the Group of 20 in pursuing financial reform has made strong commitments to transparency and integrity ahead of their November summit in Seoul,” said TI.

To address the scourge of corruption, TI pointed out that “the process of reform itself must be accelerated” and called “on the G20 to mandate greater government oversight and public transparency in all measures they take to reduce systemic risks and opportunities for corruption and fraud in the public as well as in the private sector”.

Transparency International (TI) is a leading international non-governmental organization addressing corruption. This includes, but is not limited to, political corruption. It is widely known for producing its annual Corruptions Perceptions Index, a comparative listing of corruption worldwide.

How can we achieve any improvement over last year's position when we are being led by those sponsored by the most corrupt elements in Nigeria? Yar Adua could not fight corruption and Jonathan , with the most corrupt Nigerians behind him, will never fight corruption. Is it not time we stopped  this macabre dance by voting out the PDP? Are we not ashamed of our poor international image and rating? A foreign business wanting to operate in West Africa would undoubtedly be interested in Nigeria. When that business merges our corruption index with poor power supply and the inadequate security in our nation they will be forced to think twice.

Our economy has worsened under profligate Jonathan . The man has no notion of prudence or fiscal responsibility . Britain is now groaning under severe cuts in public spending. While hash, it can be argued , right or wrong, that this is what is required for the UK to be prosperous again. All we are witnessing under GEJ is senseless, wasteful and entirely uneccessary public spending . We know Jonathan cannot fight corruption. Security is unlikely to improve under him as he blatantly played politics with his poor choice of IGP. Power supply is laden with double speak and deciet as has always been the case. Nigerians reject ethnic sentiments and make the right choice. We all want our son, brother , sister in power but let us be mature enough to note that we will not be immune from suffering if our son, brother, sister leads poorly.

GEJ backed by the most corrupt people? And your ribadu backed by saints? Ensure your hands are clean before you come to equity. In my book Tinubu is more corrupt than OBJ. Tinubu is the main backer of ribadu at the moment.

Secondly do you know that the period under review is Jan 2009- Sept 2010? May be you need to be reminded when GEJ became president.

From the rating the CPI which to me is more important than the position is 2.4. Do you know that even under ribadu(as EFCC boss), the country between 2001 and 2007 had the score below?

2001 1.0

2002 1.6

2003 1.4
2004 1,6
2005 1.9
2006 2.2
2007 2.2

Abeg make we hear word.

Are you at all serious ? The most corrupt and ruinous hands in Nigeria are behind GEJ . It is that simple and you are merely clutching at straws here by mentioning Ribadu. Talk about unrealistic and warped comparisons !!! It does not matter that Jonathan became substantive President recently. He has been part of a corrupt federal Government , as VP, for three years. In his time as President he has done nothing of note to fight corruption simply because , as soon as possible, he deliberately chose to consolidate power with the help of the most corrupt Nigerians alive . That is the truth even if you don't want to accept it .

As per the TI rating , slice it dice it whichever way , we all know that corruption is worsening in Nigeria . Yar Adua, as per being highly compromised ,  could not fight corruption and Jonathan , likewise , will also not be able to fight corruption .

By the way , why the bolded fonts? U don dey feel the 'heat' like GEJ?  grin grin grin

feel which heat? grin grin Na dis you post dey give GEJ heat? You think say to be president na moimoi?

But seriously i gave you stats since 2001 under ribadu, I expect you to engage me on that. I somehow know why u ignored that part. tongue

My question again is---- Is tinubu not very corrupt? Is he not the lord of AC? why is ribadu working with him, when ribadu's main selling point is his anti-corruption stance?
