The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adams Oshiomhole, has urged Nigerians to boycott South African goods and services to protest the killings of Nigerians and other nationals living in that country.

Oshiomhole gave the advice at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.

He recalled that over past one year, Nigerians were being maltreated in one part of South Africa or the other.

“This is the time to show commitment to our citizens and show sympathy to our loved ones.

“This can be done by boycotting South African goods and services beginning with Nigerians refusing to use MTN mobile network.

“Happily, we have indigenous network such as Glo, Airtel and I believe 9mobile is still standing by.

”If Nigerians boycott the goods and services at least for 30 days; first, to stop using MTN network services, it will send a clear message.

“We have to review all of those things that give South African companies monopoly in which it makes money with very little value addition.

“We think that these steps will be appropriate message to South African government to offer satisfactory explanation.

”It should also pay compensations to those innocent Nigerians whose properties have been looted.

“South African Airways should be stopped; its landing right should be withdrawn and should not have the right to fly to any part of Nigeria until these issues are resolved.

“We must protect Nigeria’s image, its citizens and businesses wherever they are,” he said.

If you understand modern Donald Trump type of diplomacy, you will realise he is simply trying to put pressure on the South African government.

Adams is a labour leader and he is no stranger to using rethorics to negotiate.

Why did they now send a minister to say nonsense about Nigerians this evening?

At least a minister is talking about the Issue NOW, while since then their gov was very quiet about the issue of xenophobia, proof that they are noticing the damage these xenophobic attacks have on their economy.

Btw as much as I hate to say it (and it is irrelevant), many Nigerians are indeed drug dealers in SA.

Fact but they don't force South Africans to buy the drugs, wherever there's demand, supply must come in

Sadly bro, we shouldn't focus on the wrong issue here....because any smart man knows that one hand feeds the other, and there would be NO people buying drug if there was NO dealers, so let us be honest on this issue and accept that BOTH dealer and addicts are to be blamed on this drug issue (just like you cannot just blame prostitutes for the prostitution issue, and should also equally blame their clients)

What you wrote above is the exact same reason that xenophobs are using to warrant the killing and looting of foreigners.

The reverse is the law of nature, there must be a demand before the supply comes in.
Are you trying to say that if you don't take drugs and I supply you for free that's when you start taking it and blaming me for introducing you into it, what happened to your moral restraints?

Bro, you cant lay the blame of this drug problem solely on addicts.... thats a failed way to remotely look or understand this issue. BOTH drug dealers and addicts are to be blamed for this issue....because any deluded South African could simply tell you that if dealers were not offering their poison then the issue of drug would be solved because addicts would have nothing to feed their habits.

The law of common sense dictates that you have to look at the whole issue if you want to have any chance at solving it.

No, you're stupid. MTN has 65 million subscribers in Nigeria, a country she makes one third of her income from. Those billions in earnings go to pay salaries of thousands of South Africans plus corporate tax to their govt. Multiply that by 200+ large SA firms operating in Nigeria.

This whole idea that it is the customer that suffers in a dispute with the supplier is IGNORANT and DUMB.

We don't need SA companies in Nigeria. If they leave it is THEIR LOSS. Others like China and India will take their place immediately. Nigeria is Africa's biggest market, projected to be the world's 3rd most populous country after China and India by 2050. That makes Nigeria a world class magnet of foreign investment going forward. We don't need South Africa for anything. They need access to our market.

Clap for yourself Mr smart somebody...I guess you are the one who is gonna give back employment to the 10s of thousands of NIGERIANS that these firms employ in Nigeria abi?

Oh so you think Nigerians are treated any better in China or India??!?! Let me laugh in hindi!!!! Just because Nigerians don't get lynched in these countries doesn't mean they are treated any better.Nigerians are seen just as poorly by Indians and/or Chinese. If you want anyone to create back these jobs then let it be NIGERIANS themselves or no-one else... as Nigerian men are seen as a plague in China AND India too.

You have to be realistic here and understand that there needs to be a dialogue here where all sit down and come to an understanding. We need South African firms just like Nigerians firms need South Africa. Thinking that you can do without will be your downfall on this issue
