I'm learning python right now using my downtime and it's really interesting. I wonder though, if not having a CS degree would hinder my chances of getting a job as a junior dev. or something.

Also, how would you advise I approach the learning process? Should I focus on a field? e.g web dev. or should I rather focus on a language?

Also, what's your take on offering freelance dev. services on fiverr etc

When I learnt it was a long time so started with C++ but the market trend favours JS and rhats the easiest to break in so that's the best advice if you are looking for a quick job but if you are passionate about coding then Java and a proper static language

Answer 1: Yes you can, as long as you have your portfolio and your references.

Answer 2: Keep up with Python, and you don't need CS degree to get a job... Just look out for vacancies, and apply for data analyst, data science roles...

Answer 3: Yes stick to one, or rather be a master of one.... You can then get basic knowledge of others you have interest in... But the master of one language at least, and one field... You can be a master of several as you progress..

Answer 4: Yes, any avenue for you to enhance yourself by putting your skills to use is very helpful, even if na free jobs from your friends.... And the money from fiverr will also encourage and motivate you...

I will advise you to sign up for a training coming up next month in Lagos, in collaboration with National Open University,... They have courses on data science and python... And the certificate will also help you with more confidence in your job search... You can call 08164054193 for more information...

I'll advise you make YouTube, Google and Stackoverflow your best friend.
Ever heard of Edureka on YouTube? Subscribe... the channel will spoil you with videos. And also get the book "Automate The Boring Stuff With Python". As time goes on, you choose your niche. And as for certificate, it's taking a backseat in the world of Tech.

It is simple .... we shout tech tech in Nigeria with no scalable products. Everybody is learning software programming but the programming isn’t solving immediate needs of the people. You need to solve the needs of people to remain relevant. We make too much noise!
