Maternal/Child Healthcare: Rotary International Donates Hospital Equipment to KDSG

The Rotary International, a non-profit organisation on Tuesday donated hospital equipment to Kaduna State government for onward delivery to five secondary hospitals in the State.

Handing over the equipment at Kaduna Ministry of Health Office, the National Coordinator, Rotary International Maternal and Child Health Project Nigeria, Professor Emmanuel Lufadeju who was represented by Mrs Liyatu Esubihi, the Project Chief Midwife said the intervention is to help improve Maternal and Child Healthcare delivery system in the State.

Lufadeju further said that Rotary International Maternal and Child Health Quality Assurance and obstetrics is already working on the project to ensure child and maternal death reduced drastically .

According to him, the organisation has improved quality assurance in obstetrics, using the MPDS guild lines to develop an electronic platform for MCH data collection system.

“The federal government and the National Council on Health have adopted it and said we must expand to all the 36 states in the country." He added .

Parts of the equipment donated are :Delivery Couches, suction machines ,Oxygen concentrators, Standing blood pressure apparatus and several others .

While stating that hospital equipment are never enough and need for replacement ,he said the decision to continue to provide more equipment is key to achieving success in child and maternal healthcare .

While urging the government to put the equipment to use immediately, he said, "We will go round to make sure the are in use.

" We started the project in 2005 and since then Kaduna State has benefitted twice and this is the third round of donation to all our project hospitals in Kaduna State.

In the past , Yusuf Dantsoho General Hospital , Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital, Jibrin Maigwari Memorial hospital ,Hajiya Gambo Sawaba General Hospital and
Alhaji Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital benefited from our intervention .

But this time ,the five benefitting hospitals are ; Maj Ibrahim bello Abdullahi Hospital, General hospital Kachia, General Hospital Kawo, General hospital Makarfi and General hospital Sabon-tasha are the direct beneficiaries .


Dr. Ado Zakari Mohammed ,Director Medical Services ,Ministry of Health ,Kaduna State, who received the equipment on behalf of Kaduna state government commended Rotary International for the gesture.

" We know you have donated several hospital equipment in the past for improved child and maternal healthcare services which have help in so many ways .

"We are assuring you that the equipment will be put to proper use . "
