last 2weeks i wrote an exam over here in Abuja the exam was organised by MICROSOFT CORPORATION.
And it was based on the programming language you applied. I did applied Php/MYSQL/xhtml/JAVASCRIPT.
Now the result is out and out of 1523 to be precise 500people on Web programming i came out Second and has been granted a SCHOLARSHIP into Havard University USA. TO study web programming but the problem am having now is that my Dad has gone against it saying he does not believe on PROGRAMMING COURSES RATHER what you see is what you get. So in effect will deny me my chance now bros if you are in My shoes what will you do?
BECAUSE i cant dream of going to FutMINNA anylonger.

I would get someone he has high regards for to talk to him. Perhaps he will change.

I don't know about now, but when I was growing up, many parents would force their kids to be either a lawyer or a doctor. The result? These kids would take jamb up to 5 times just to get the score. One could argue the sense in this either way but to me, I have been blessed with parents who allowed me to do what I had an interest in. That way, if I fail, I blame no one but myself. I ended up studying agric econs and passed my jamb, with the highest score in that university, the first time around.

My point: Our parents (or some at least) need to stop forcing their kids to do what they don't want to do, career-wise, either because they are trying to live their lives through their kids or because they want to look good in front of their peers. They should give their kids a chance to be the adults they have grown up to be.

Again, have someone your father has high regards for explain to him what I just said above. Hopefully he listens.

Probably the way you presented the whole thing to him. Is your Dad I.T. oriented? Is he paying nothing?  Is d scholarship 100% free ?

Is the 30% within your dad's budget? If YES. Try to rephrase whatever you told him earlier. You said he aint IT oriented, so he prob. doesnt know wht programming is all about + he prob. thinks its just one yeye course you're going dere to do.

Try to print out the prospectus + other eye-catching infos about programming. Just make him understand what the course is all about. You can even print out a list of successful programmers who are well made in the field. Make him read all these.

JUST DO ANYTHING YOU CAN DO + USE WHATEVER FORMAT TO MAKE HIM UNDERSTAND THAT PROGRAMMING AINT THE SAME AS Cell biology & Genetics.

If all these fails, get a white dude(whose got the accent obviously) to put a call through to your Dad pretending to be a Harvard University Official(lets say Admission officer) and tell him his son just made the list; make him understand how privileged you are to have been given the scholarship.


Dnt let this pass you by. Try whatever you can dude. A scholarship in Harvard doesnt come everyday, U know!

@OP put it to him this way then: Would you rather I do what you want to do, make you happy but be unhappy or would you rather it be the other way around? If he says balks, then rather than go against his wishes, as I firmly believe in Eph. 6, I would say do what he wants you to do but remind him that it might come back to haunt him. Then on the side, do what you love. Nothing wrong in having a back up plan.

@YAWA i am going to try what you said but i dont think its going to work because my dad like been over decisive. For example while i was in Ss1 he made me want to Medcine this i told him no. I wanted studying Something like Banking. But out of fear that he would not pay my school fees i entered science though i secretly registered engineering subject in My Jamb without his knowledge. That is how i scape through. Now i dont think this will be possible because i dont know where to get the 30% of that fee.
@Sylrox the truth is i dont know any white man who works there. It was even through a Neighbour friend i was able to apply for the exam at the first instance.
I have 18days to go before embassy registration by the corporation beside i need my fathers SIGNATURE but this is not a problem i have talk to my uncle and he wants to sign as a Guardian if probably he gets the money to sponsor me

iSaid 'pretending to be a Harvard University Official(lets say Admission officer)'. Am just talking bout getting someone who's got the accent and can call your Dad with an international number. Its called 'Social Engineering' bro. It doesnt have to be the Harvard Official.

Does he know how prestigious Harvard is?
Why don't you do a small research on the following:
Percentage of Harvard graduates who go on to better things
Employability of Harvard graduates
Average salary of Harvard graduates
and present him with your findings
