SEE MY AUNT'S DILEMMA, HOW CAN I BE OF HELP? by wwwkaycom(m): 8:07pm On Sep 26, 2019
How wise is my aunt please? She put her son in a private university when her monthly income is less than 80k and is now seeing all of us as her problem. Her husband who is a secondary school teacher told her point blank that the boy should rewrite JAMB when he didn't meet up for admission into a federal university in 2017 but aunty was adamant, saying his mates will leave him behind. Now its difficult to pay fees and she expects all of us, myself and my siblings to be donating part of our income to her. How far can she go in relying on donations from people who also have their own responsibilities? What can she do? The boy is going to part two now and the fee of about 800k is not forthcoming at all. It wasn't easy paying for last session. They have two other children in secondary schools. I want to advise her to withdraw the boy and let him try federal university again but my wife is cautioning me that aunty may see me as someone who is not wishing her well. What can I do?

She's not in a dilemma. She's just stupid. There's a saying called "cut your coat according to your cloth".
I guess she has never heard of it before.

Your wife is on point.

Give your 'widows might' and let your Aunt handle the rest.

She will soon receive sense to withdraw her son from a private university when she and her husband cannot foot the bill.

You and your siblings who donated money for the boy's education last semester and who have your own responsibilities to attend to, can try talking to her together. That would be better than you doing it alone b/c she can't see all of you as not wishing her well, can she?

A transfer to a state or federal university will do. You'll only need an in-house person in whichever of the schools to help with it.

May the Living God bless you abundantly. I never thought about this possibility. I remember that as a university student many years ago, one of my friends actually transferred to our school from a university in the north. I'll tell my siblings to let's advise her on this even though it may not be easy, its not an impossibility.

Simple solution :

Sit back with a bottle of water and watch her being taught a tough lesson by reality.

"No one tells a sane mind to move away from the scorching sun, neither do you tell the deaf to run when there is commotion in the market" .. .... A proverb in my dialect.

As earlier advised, inquire the possibility of transferring the student to a chosen federal university.

Waka pass biko...if she asks for money, simply tell her you're not buoyant enough, if you advice such 'aunty',she will see you as a killjoy.

Don't interfere and don't give any advice. Just avoid her calls when she starts disturbing you people for money. The situation will advice her itself.

She's just irrationally stupid.

Is Buhari not her president?

Thank you all good people of nairaland.com.
I and my siblings eventually discussed with our aunt and she agreed with us. We have been into how to get the boy into a federal university since October but very difficult, however we were able to get LASU and Ekpoma through the help of some good Samaritans that I spoke to. He will be resuming in 200level @ LASU when next session starts, this is much better for the boy, the dad and aunty. She's appreciative of the gesture but I must confess, transfer is difficult, almost impossible in the federal universities.
Thank you all guys and God bless.
