Simplyleo: post=82761394: Hehehe... Dear , what Simplyleo posted and you reacted to, was sarcasm, so you two meant essentially the same thing! And maybe for that reason or some other, someone has even been forced to now hide that post by Simplyleo; the post must have bitten hard, hahaha. Hi, Simplyleo, next time, kindly trail sarcasm-like posts with smileys... because then more posters are likely to understand it in its proper context? ........ P34c3 ..... ... 1 Like 1 Share |

PassingShot: So you have no problem with customs coming into your house and asking for the duty on items you own that could be contraband. Even rice in your kitchen? I think those shut downs should be based on intelligence with evidence that they do have something to hide. What if at the end of it, they don't find any wrong doing, who compensates them? |

tiwiex:Why are you trivializing the issue? Why bring it to the level of coming to individual kitchen? Na wa for you o. And I don't want to think that the Customs just shut down the shops without verifying if they had case to answer or not. That would be gross violation. |

If they do the right thing, they should not be scared, but those car dealers are wicked, they will give someone fake custom papers with fake engine and still sell the car at a very high price, that's not fair, is good they go after all of them to do the right thing. |

Very commendable move by customs. Very very commendable. However, the true cost of cars in Nigeria will be reflected in the market. |

aolawale025: It is absolutely right mister. There should be no limit to such operations. What they shoukd do next is to integrate their activities with that of the Federal Road Safety Corps and State VIO's to ensure contraband vehicles are not registered or licensed and their owners arrested at the point of presentation. This embarrassment will cause Nigerians to sit up and do what is right. We simply cannot degenrate to a lawless smugglers paradise and then turn around and ask government to support local industries and create jobs while we undrmine their efforts at establiahing a level playing field. I am totally against the baning of goods but I am all for right levies and competitive duties on all goods we are capable of producing moreover government is in dire need of revenue. America has a drug problem and though their borders are protected by layer after layer of security, drugs still find their way to the streets and anyone found wanting whether seller or buyer will be arrested for either trafficking or posessing drugs. We have a bigger smuggler problem and must be tackled with the vigour it deserves. Good one from the government. |

tiwiex: When we begin to crack down on crime we begin to grab the reins of our economy. No country can survive the size of the black economy Nigeria has viz its GDP. Yes, get into some kitchens and make examples and watch the problem cut to size. It remains a crime anywhere in the world to smuggle. Our conscience as citizens MUST be attuned to that. We have lost consciousness of what is right in this country. Once again if the police bursts into your house and finds narcotics, you will be arrested. You will be questioned and the chain of supply taken down. They will serve a greater punishment than you but you will not escape. We have a bigger problem than narcotics in Nigeria. |

Reference: You increase the size of the informal sector by scaring businesses from operating in the formal sector. Import bans encourages once legit businesses to go underground for instance. It is the government to blame most often and not businessmen 1 Like 1 Share |

post=82761389: Is this how to create ENABLING environment for business to thrive ? Who should be blamed if cars were crossed without customs noticing it apart from customs ? So you shut down million dollar businesses containing say 1 million cars because you are looking for 50 cars you suspect were crossed when you were asleep ? I have never seen such a stupid move geared towards discouraging trade and commerce in a comatose economy of WORLDS POOREST COUNTRY. Guy you keep churning out silly talk every day. Sometimes you need to see a doctor to decipher if you are normal upstairs. |
