You're welcome to our new series. We appreciate your following. We know this will help improve the quality of your life. Stay tuned.

Cutting Through The Noise – Episode 1: The Noise is Real
20th October, 2019

- You have a great future ahead of you, no matter what the present looks like. Do not allow past or present events or experience paint a distorted picture (vision) of your future. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6

- You need to keep your life’s vision actively visible and keep developing and pursing related/periodic goals in the direction of your vision. Then the LORD answered me, "Write the vision. Make it clear on tablets so that anyone can read it quickly . Habakkuk 2:2

- In life we are always encountering noise which makes it difficult to get our vision, goals and even desires communicated in a way that gets needed attention. We sure live in a world full of noise with many voices vying for our attention.

- The more noise we are able to cut through and remove from our life, the better the quality of life we live.

- We have to learn to unplug and eliminate the noise so we can take time to focus on our life’s vision and goals as we listen to and maintain a close relationship with God and those that matter to our life’s purpose.

- According to Wikipedia, “Noise is an unwanted sound judged to be unpleasant, loud or disruptive to hearing.” Noise comes in all shapes, sizes &sounds- a part of our everyday lives, which can be external or internal. Noise can affect and alter what we see, hear, say or perceive.

Can we take an inventory of the noise that surrounds us every day?
From automobiles, various human activities, social media/internet, conversation that intrude into your life, the inner blare of thoughts – criticisms, resentments, voices from the past, urgent fears and exhausting anxieties and emotional and mental rattles.

- Noise, no matter what type, is in our face and seems to be simply the way life is, yet its effects are not palatable.
Noise is relative– what is noise to you may not be noise to another person. That is why the bible tells us… Don’t compare yourself with others.
Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.
Galatians 6:5 (MSG)

Let us examine a case study from one of the experiences of Jesus Christ when he walked the earth.
And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land. Matthew 9:23-26

- As anointed as Jesus is, he could not perform any miracle (fulfill purpose) until he unplugged the noise.

- There are places in your life’s journey that you can’t get to with the noise, just like Jesus, you need to unplug the noise before you can go in.

- In life, we are going to encounter some dead situations which may never come alive until we unplug the noise

- We all know and believe in LifePort that the world is our stage, but as individuals, we may never live in this reality until we unplug the noise.

The fact is we are all under attack – the noise (external and internal) we are bombarded with every day is a form of attack on our life that till date most people have not come to realize.

We need to take daily deliberate steps to unplug this noise so we can be able to fulfill our purpose in life.

-Most of us don’t realize that we are even being held back by certain noises and don’t know how noisy the world really is until we obtain an extended period of silence.

Action Point – Take at least 10minutes each day of this week to deliberately cut out as much noise as you can.

Cutting Through The Noise –Episode 2 Unplugging Internal Noise - Sentiments

Let us take a review of our assignments from last weekend:
*What is your life’s vision statement?
*What are the list of noises you faced during the last one week?
*Did you spend 10mins everyday to cut out as much noise as you could?

From last weekend, we realize that Noise comes in all shapes, sizes &sounds- a part of our everyday lives, which can be external or internal. What gives noise its characteristic nature is the ability to affect and alter what we see, hear, say or perceive.

- We sure live in a world full of noise with many voices distracting us from what matters most.

- We have to keep learning how to unplug and eliminate the noise so we can take time to focus on our life’s vision and goals as we listen to and maintain a close relationship with God and those that matter to our life’s purpose.

-Remember we are all under the noise attack. In the next 7 weekends, we are going to be examining some specific categories of noise that we may not pay attention to, but they hold us back from living a fulfilled life.

-Today we will consider sentiment as one of the internal noises we have to unplug so we can live a fulfilled life.

-Sentiment is a thought, opinion, or idea based on a feeling about a situation, or a way of thinking about something… a general feeling, attitude, or opinion about something or someone. This could also be expressed as Stereotype or Prejudice (pre-judge) and assumption.

Assumption is an incomplete information about a situation coupled with an unwillingness to ask the questions you need to complete the information.

Why is the symbol of justice always shown as a blindfolded woman with a sword and weighing balance in the right and left hand? This is to avoid any form of “pre-judgement”.
Let us examine some biblical examples of sentiments:

1. Nathaniel’s sentiment about the city of Nazareth – John 1:43-49
43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” 44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip. 47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” 48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” 49 Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.” John 1:43-49

2. The disciple’s sentiments about the blind man – John 9:1-3. “As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

Considering the danger of what the Noise of
sentiments can cause, how do we unplug the internal noise of sentiments and the likes of stereotype and prejudice?

1. Ask rather than assume- Instead of basing your decisions on what you
think you know, ask questions to get more information and clarification.

2. Be discerning - We need discernment today more than ever! Avoid generalized statement…life is dynamic!

3. Be aware of the “other side of the coin principle” - Our lives will be lopsided if we keep making decisions based on lopsided views. When you hear something ill about another whom you know, make a conscious effort to know their version of the story. A one-sided story is like a half-truth, it’s also a half lie!

4. Be fast to hear, be slow to act. ”Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” James 1:9.

5. Respond don’t react. It’s easy to be triggered by someone’s comments, especially when our defenses are up. When you feel your chest tighten and your pulse quicken, don’t act immediately. Instead, pause and notice your reaction. The simple act of taking a deep breath can work wonders to shift away from defensiveness.

Cutting Through The Noise Episode 3

WHAT MAKES NOISE NOISE. GOOD AND BAD EXPERIENCES
Experiences could be noise since they keep us back to taunt us when we allow them. It is important that we do not let past experiences good or bad, hold us back from forging ahead.

The right perspective to experience - Experiences are dynamic and the way we process our experiences goes a long way in shaping our lives. Beyond us, it affects others around us as well, how we see them, how we perceive their actions and how we interpret their projections. Your past experiences could cause you to be scared of taking the next step or going through the process again. It is therefore important that we manage our experiences well and have the right perspective with respect to various experiences putting in mind that they are all we need to handle better the things God is about to commit to our hands. God is mindful of us and we only pass through what he has allowed to happen ( and we all know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Rom 8:28 NASB)

Good experiences can be noise to us, as the good experiences can make us become complacent and deprive us of the zeal to aim for and achieve more. The children of Israel for instance preferred the food they ate in Egypt to having to move to the promise land hungry. They murmured so much about how well fed they were in Egypt so much that the Lords anger came upon themsuch noise! ( in Egypt we used to eat all the fish we wanted, and it cost us nothing. Remember the cucumbers, the water melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic we had? Num 11:5 Good news)

So every time they had to eat manna, Gods miraculous provision, all they picture in their mind is the flesh they had enjoyed in Egypt.
Today, most of us will rather sit back and enjoy the provisions we have at hand than give all it takes to get into our place of purpose. It is important to bear in mind that our experiences are in the past, the good, the bad, the ugly, the painful, even the pleasant, all of them are in the past and that is why they are called experiences.
The sad thing is, many of us continue to look back to the past (experience)& all this does is become a noisy nuisance that prevents us from walking into the beautiful future that God has designed & planned for us.

Effects of experiences as a noise
*It distracts us from concentrating on the now
*It confuses us on the right decisions to make
*It steals and cannibalizes our focus
*It makes us pursue the wrong things.

How do we unplug the internal noise of experience.

After accepting that allowing our minds to dwell on past experiences and letting them prevent us from living a good quality of life. It is important that we pinpoint them and unplug them. We should;

-Realize that no matter what we have in the past, it is in the past, you are alive to get more, do more, be better and achieve more. There is something so great ahead of you. Do not be carried away by the past experiences.

-Be reminded that the past cannot absolutely determine your future. God wrote the plan of your life and when we seek Him, He reveals to us the path to take so we have a better future. So do not judge your future by your present.

-Break free from fear. Most of the time, ugly experiences bring fear and this clouds our vision of better ways to achieve our dreams. It holds us back from trying, it puts in us the mindset of what if what If it doesnt work out just like the last time fear not, it will work out, experiences only help us to learn how to be better.

-Put your experiences in the right perspective. Experience is a process and not a destination. Our experiences arm us for the future God has in mind for us. It prepares us to take on the bigger responsibilities in our future

-Paint a clear picture of your future and bring it to your daily reflections. Whenever you are about to be weighed down by the burden of past experiences, just bring forward to mind the picture of the future as this will be an encouragement to focus more on the present that will help shape the future.

It is important to note that past experiences can rob us of the joy in the present, hinder us from enjoying what we have now and distract us from preparing for the future.

Cutting Through The Noise Episode 4
RANDOM THOUGHTS

10th of November, 2019

WHAT ARE THOUGHTS: Thoughts are comprised of information that our brain takes in and send to our mind. Our mind act as a gatekeeper of the computed information, it determines which information is relevant and what will be our mental focus. Those thoughts can become beliefs that can affect us in a positive or negative way. Thoughts are powerful and they form an integral part of the outcomes and results we get from life. Our life is a cumulative sum of thoughts that permeates our mind each day and the consequent actions that follow such thoughts. Proverbs 4:23 (CEV) Carefully guard your thoughts because they are the source of true life.

Random thoughts are thoughts that come to you when you arent expecting them and they have no apparent meaning. When randomly thinking becomes your habit or when you are always fixated on your random thoughts, it eventually becomes a noise. They are forms created in the mind which are most times not real but when we are fixated on those thoughts, we begin to perceive them as real and they start hindering us from seeing the bigger picture God wants us to see.

Random Thoughts as a Noise: The Effects
1. It makes us miss vital information about our Gods vision and purpose.
Psalms 46:10[CEV] Our God says, "Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me."
2. It makes us not have a specific direction.
3. It puts us in a state of confusion and makes us doubt or abilities.
4. It dissipates our focus thereby making it impossible for us to complete tasks.

A Biblical scenario that captures random thoughts is exemplified by the temptation of Jesus even after He had fasted forty days and forty nights.
Matthew 4:1-11[NLT]

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. During that time the devil came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread." But Jesus told him, "No! The Scriptures say, 'People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, "If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say, 'He will order his angels to protect you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.'" Jesus responded, "The Scriptures also say, 'You must not test the Lord your God.'" Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. "I will give it all to you," he said, "if you will kneel down and worship me." "Get out of here, Satan," Jesus told him. "For the Scriptures say, 'You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'" Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.
Attention should be given to the fact that Jesus temptation is an event that happened in His mind, they came to Him as random thoughts and suggestions from the devil to make Him loose focus.
Jesus response drives home not a few key things.
1. Random thoughts come to us all, not minding who you are, your religious titles and achievements.
2. Random thoughts can sometimes be a consequence of wandering desires, longings and wishes.
3. To have random thoughts is not sin or an offense but to ponder and seek means act them out becomes a noise that introduces distractions to our lives and dissipates our focus.
4. You may not be able to choose the thoughts that come to your mind but you can control the effect and outcome it has on you. You either enable or reinforce its effects or

Random Thoughts as a Noise: The Counter Effects
1. Constantly affirm to yourself that you have the power to make a choice. Your mind has the ability to wander but you also own the responsibility of bringing it to caution and choose the thoughts that stays.
2. Strive to maintain a disciplined mind. A disciplined mind is one that allows thoughts but harmonizes the relevant ones. Disciplining our mind is way of bringing our mind to a specific direction.
2 Timothy 1:7[NIV] For God didnt give us the spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
A disciplined mind doesnt mean only positive things flow through it, its a mind that has learnt to accept the relevant information and let go of the irrelevant ones.
3. Let Gods word fill your heart, let it be what you think about.
Philippians 4:8 (CEV) Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.

Cutting Through The Noise–Episode 5 UNPLUGGING THE MOST JEOPARDIZING NOISE

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth (3Jn 1:2 KJV)

You are welcome to yet another episode of the Cutting through the Noise Series. Last week we talked about “Unplugging Internal Noise: Random Thoughts.” Today we will be discussing the topic: Unplugging the Most Jeopardizing Noise; that is, the Noise that holds us back from having a robust/thriving relationship with God.
God created us humans so that he can have a relationship with us. He wants to relate with us on a very deep cordial level as Father and children (Gen 3:8; 6:3; Luke 13:38b; Heb 10:38b).
He desires to bring us to a place where we are full of the very essence of life that is in Him. He demonstrated this through Jesus (John 5:26; Matt 11:27). This is called a place of rest (Matt 11:28-29; Heb 3:11; ch4); a place of perfect union with God through Christ (Heb 3: 7 – 15).
However, to get to this point, there is a thing known as the soul prospering.

Humans have three components – the spirit, the soul and the body also known as the Inner man, the inward man and the outward man respectively. The spirit is a deposit from God, the soul is what makes us humans, and the body is formed by Him. When God breathed into his nostrils Adam became a living soul

(Gen 2:7). As a living soul Adam ruled the earth, named all creatures, and could enjoy God’s visit every evening. However, God wanted Adam to find His way to the tree of life which was in the midst of the garden, and to help facilitate this, He created the woman, Eve. This is the major reason for marriage – to help us find the tree of life. However, the first instance of noise came when Eve engaged in a discussion with the serpent. Despite the fact that there were so many trees in the garden, and more importantly the tree of life, it was just that one tree that they were instructed not to eat of, that Adam and Eve eventually ate from, aided by the serpent. This shows how the noise from within usually make us blind to what God has done, but make us focus only on the things that we do not have. This is the root of covetousness.

After eating the forbidden fruit, death came into Adam’s spirit and he was cut off from God. So, death and corruption were ministered to the soul of humans. This operated as the law of sin and death. The mind became the place from which man’s decisions were made. Remember that the mind is like an open window, different random thoughts and ideas always fly in. But when Jesus came and He died, he opened a channel through which we can be saved from the law that was at work in all humans. When we accept Him, the spirit of life in Christ Jesus comes into our spirit, reconnects us back to God, and frees us from the hold of sin and death (Romans 8:2). This means that when you accept Jesus into your life, you are free from the hold of sin and death, and have the potential to enjoy the fullness of life in God.

After accepting Jesus as your personal Lord and savior, your spirit had been saved. Then you begin the journey of saving your souls from the habit it has acquired and learnt over the ages from the law of sin and death through obedience to God’s leading. You begin unlearning wrongs, and begin learning life. This is why we continue to appear before God in secret, in a gathering, with the brethren, with our families, etc. The aim is to help us learn about our new life, how to walk in God’s light (1John 1:7). At this point, we start learning how to obey God through the Holy Spirit that we received at redemption. The full salvation of our soul is ministered to us in doses in God’s word (James 1:21). God has also prepared in various experiences doses of our salvation (1Peter 1: 6-12).

The worst thing that can happen to any human is not to achieve this.
God’s plan when He made Adam was to make Him into a quickening spirit – A LifePort; having the same measure of life that God has. But, Adam failed, so God sent Jesus to show us the way. So, Jesus is the true LifePort that we all must follow (1Cor 15:45-50). This is a place of rest (Heb 3: 7-19; ch 4). Jesus operated from that place. When we live our lives from the suggestions in our minds, then we will choke out the instructions of the spirit and will lose out on that beautiful relationship with God (Mark 4:18 – 19; James 1:22 – 25). The law of sin and death says that we must live by sight, and chase after things that have no eternal value, but the law of spirit of life in God says otherwise. It is when we obey the law of the spirit of life in God, chase after God’s own rest, and allow God take us on the journey of perfection that we begin to enjoy that robust relationship with God (1john 2: 15 -17). This requires a deliberate decision to follow after God and enter into His rest, then, He will meet us halfway just like the prodigal son.
Personal Reflection: The loudest noise in our lives is from within not without, and we must allow that inner working of God’s word to shed light on them, and root them out. We must ALLOW God do His work.
