It is indeed quite rare for a relatively young scientist to spend so much time in self-promotion and less time actually working in his field, doing research. One generally does not rest on the laurels of things you accomplished in your youth; he is supposed to still be a productive scientist. Still, my natural inclination is to accept what people say as the truth. And who cannot love a Nigerian success story? Look how quickly Bill Clinton, Al Gore, etc latched onto it. It is just a feel-good story from all sides, makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. Alas. . . |
