My new Pouvoir 3 Techno phone was stolen some weeks ago. I got really frustrated because all my files, passwords, important documents which i didn't take note of where there, some
ebook courses that I bought very costly where also there..

I was so pissed that I decided tracking my phone to at least get and know the thief because I believe he might still be in my area.

After 4 days pain and thoughts, I visited the police and documented my case, paid 15k to track a phone I bought 40,500k.

They told me to come with my Imei number which I did, it was also document.

I was convinced that my phone must come to me, sure, I had hope it will.

I called the inspector in charge of my case from time to time to know latest updates and in less than 3 weeks, he told me to come, that they have located where my phone is, the phone number in it, the person that always communicate with the thief and where the thief was at that moment.

To cut the long story, we traced it to a guy around my street, locked him up, and he had to give me my phone and pay every single dime I spent on my phone before he was released.

Now my question is; Had it been my phone Imei number was changed, could the police had still traced my phone?

Over to phone gurus... personally, I'll never buy a fairly used phone no matter how cheap the phone is. If you like call it London-used, American-used...it can never be tear-rubber.

Bro, leave the phone product and focus on the matter at hand.

I think it's hard changing an IMEI of a phone though else it's rooted

A changed imei phone CANNOT be tracked.
Except some outlayer masked imei.
BTW, some OEM are very smart now.
If you change the imei in the case of Samsung phones(from 2017 models up)
The phone maybe useless.
as BASEBAND/CERT/IMEI are now built on a specific CHIP(KNOX)
It may not even boot.

It's very possible to change phone IMEI, especially MTK devices.
As someone rightly mentioned above, it used to be common during the days of glo BB10 black be plans.

However, non MTK devices like Samsung and Xiaomi can still be changed, although very complex and difficult. Phones like Huawei are even harder.

Do people still do so these days? I don't think so.


Personally, I'm not speaking from experience but I don't think changing the IMEI will prevent it from being tracked though.
The original IMEI is unique to the device so should still be able to track it.

changing imei is easy back those days when MTN and other ISP'S was giving out gigabytes for specific devices and router the imei is been tweaked so that you could get the gig too and along the line you forget your original imei and keep using the phone like that! but now o don't think people do that anymore except if For a stolen phone with the use of Computer software.

I can change any android phone imei in less that 5 minutes

To the op

It can not be tracked if u change the imei but once u flash the phone like 2 or 3 times, the original imei will come back

oga don't say what you don't know I change IMEI of Samsung new model .from s8 to note 10 plus .it's just the money and the reason for change ..some change IMEI because the unlock.is expensive so the IMEI is the cheapest contact me if you need my services 09033365257

if you are using MTK device,its super easy but if its Snapdragon and others,you need to root the phone

I've stopped rooting phones like 3yrs now,try going to xda-developers.com,you might find an answer there
