Having been on Nairaland, and coming from (despite my monicker) a Christian background, one thing I have noticed is that a lot of we Christians , when an atheist makes a comment like the following below...

Jesus is just a rehashed version of the Osiris/Horus myth

the responses from Christians are as follows...

'You lack sense'

'You are dumb'

'You are foolish'

'You have no sense'

whereas a simple google would have led to this

The reason why I am calling out Christians is that many Christians don't know how to defend their faith. And to me, it isn't their fault...the pastors in their church teach a Christianity that is watered down pablum (Jesus wants to make you more comfy...and rich!, or...Don't do bad things!). But actual apologetics, actual arguing based on facts...many Christians lack.

Instead, many Christians resort to abuse and insults instead of doing their research, and arguing properly with facts.

The truth is, many Christians need to do some reading, and some apologietics training. Because the more you abuse atheists and Muslims, and so on, the more you end up showing them that Christianity is a 'useless religion' Because if you claim that Chirst has changed you, and yet behave unchristlike, who would be interested in your religion.

(Indeed I have known a Muslim who converted to Christianity, who as a Muslim was almost turned off from Chirstianity because of the abusive nature of many a Christian he met).

So, the next time someone says that 'Jesus did not exist'...use google, glean some facts....and raise your argument. And be respectful. Don't show yourself as a poor advertisment for your religon by being an abusive ignorant boor.

this is my understanding

Christianity has always been propagated through denigration of other religions

Evangelism always involves people of other faiths being told their God is evil, [Ogun pagan's devil, Allah moon God] their religion is nasty , backward, etc etc. Christianity is then held up as a shining beacon with a kind loving God, fairness, equality . etc etc. of course it has its own warts but that is a story for another day

imho, most atheists were once very devout Christians, and they adopt the exact same tactics used so well by Christian evangelists to attack Christianity.

Its actually very funny seeing Christians get upset at well trained ex compatriots using the very methods they use so well to proselytize

this has little to do with religion. the fact is that most of the posters here today are abusive ignorant boors. you meet them in every section. you have spared with them in politics today. aggressive, closeminded, rude. it is what it is

Because usually the facts are not on the side of the Christian or they are completely ignorant of the subject matter but they need to defend their position by any means.

Apologetics being taught in a regular church service will be boring or why do you think they have specialised bible classes/schools? Besides Christianity is not about exposing people to the facts of our reality, it is about selling people a hope that this reality is not really real and there's a "magic" way to alter this reality. That is what drives people to continue to follow people who have already been jailed for fraud, the sale of hope.
