Movement of Pan-Africanist Students Nigeria condemns the unjust action the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta's management took, in just few days ago to check the lack of efficient security by the management. In his statement, Comrade Bayo, the organizer made the following remarks:

The above-named Movement want to publicly put it on record that the expulsion of Ifemosu Adewale, a Year-Two student of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management, by the management of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is not only crude and illegitimate, but also barbaric and uncivilized.

The expelled student recently took to his Facebook page to decry the incessant cases of insecurity on the campus. FUNAAB for some years now have been an haven for cultists, armed robbers, rapists, political thugs, etc.

Contrary to what would have prevailed in a saner clime, the University management ignorantly took Adewale’s intervention to be a crime against the supposedly integrity of the University. We find this reaction very ridiculous because students since last two years have been taking to the social media spaces, consistently, to expose the high rate of insecurity on their campus.

We in MOPAS condemns this growing evil trend across our campuses. The academia should be an environment where dissenting voices are being encouraged by all. The implication of this clampdown on the democratic rights of students is that it goes on to create an imbecilic society. More so, this is not coming as a surprise because the government of the day has also been in the frontline of abuse of the rights of her citizens.

We demand that our Universities should be an environment receptive to ideas and innovations from all and sundry. The University system cannot and must not become an instrument of bad leadership and governance. The illegal expulsion of another student from the Taraba State University because of his criticism of the State Governor, Dairus Ishaku, is unconnected to the toga of shame our University managements are now wearing.

We demand for the immediate reinstatement of Adewale by the overzealous FUNAAB management and also call for an end to the victimization of students by managements across all universities in the country. We cannot definitely continue like this. Attacks against freedom of speech and associations is not only criminal in the laws of the land but in the laws of the global community.

Ultimately, what we need is an educational system that dignifies our African identity, ethos and philosophies. An Africanized educational system is the only solution to injustice, maladministration, individualism, and other neoliberal ideas that have eaten deep into the fabrics of our University system.

Aluta Continua! Victoria Ascerta!!!
Izeweluthu! E-Afrika.

National Organizer MOPAS
Comrade Bayo
