Dr Isa Ali Pantami

Just in, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami gave the directive on Tuesday shortly after the new Executive Commissioner (Stakeholders Management) of the NCC, Barrister Adeleke Adewolu, was administered the oath of office.

Minister said:

“If you go to other countries, even countries that are not as largely populated as Nigeria, data prices are not this high. I am also a victim of some of the infractions that are so common in the industry. You load your data, but you barely used 20 percent of it and the entire data is wiped off.

“The last time I commented on the issues of illegal data deduction, this is one of the issues that worries me badly today. Eng Wakil making a presentation on behalf of EVC, he tried to defend the operators on one hand and the commission on the other, but I was not fully convinced with the explanation.

“Please go, sit down and review that issue. It is very important and I want to get your feed back with that report in the next five working days with the decision on it because the complaint from Nigerian is beyond what I can handle as it is today, people are complaining. And it happened to me I recharged my data line and used it, and I believe that what I used was not up to 20 percent of what I purchased when it was wiped off, so that is an issue that is very important .

“I directed NCC to reduce the price of data downward as well it is very important, go and look at other African countries that do not have population like ours, even 20 percent of our population, go and see the price of data there . as a regulator, the main agenda of NCC is to protect the customers, our priority should be the interest of Nigerians.”

The Minister commended the NCC leadership for its achievements in the areas of five percent broadband penetration and the de-activation of pre-registered and unregistered SIM cards, stating that they should go a step further by ensuring that penetration of 3G and 4G are expanded in Nigeria.

So far, we can say this is a Good improvement from the Federal Government.

What do you think?

Has the minister considered the erratic epileptic power supply faced in Nigeria?
Has he considered the multiple taxes paid by these operators?
Rather than reducing the price further they should insist on quality and quantity delivery.

It is either the government reduce multiple taxes or levies to achieve this or find an alternative to power failure

Young and efficient even in NITDA.

so,it takes a minister to let them know that we're being exploited here, it's only when it affects the elites before people will sit up

Not just reducing the cost but also removing the validity period or better still, extend it.

I shouldn't purchase a product and the seller will have to force me to use it within a specified period of time...

truly speaking I've been noticing it, illegal data zapping is a thing with all these service providers. very much in airtel and mtn! i don't know about glo but i know 9 mobile has the least.
imagine buying 750 airtel and in two minutes every thing disappeared not as if i was downloading! they are cheating us!

Guy don't make me talk this morning. I mean what did you just write there. Wetin concern me concern their operating cost. This is a really bad excuse. After struggling to make enough money to buy data thinking it would last for a month, only for it to finish in a week. Because of their stupid zapping. How is it lawful? How you defend this at all baffles me. When someone pay for something he should get exactly what he paid for. If the telecom companies can't afford it then reduce the data volume. As long as I get what I pay for then am cool with that.

How would you feel if you bought a 50kg bag of rice only to find out that 50+% of it is made up of shells and dirt? Make sure you still give this same excuse too. I don't get Nigerians really? Have we gotten so used to being exploited that we now make excuse for those who are doing the exploitation. How does 1 open his mouth and defend this people suprises me. I paid for something, give me exactly what I paid, how is that a big ask? Even if you want to zap, zap the bonus but the real data someone paid for should be left untouched. Because you don't know how the person struggled to get the money.

Nigerians are truly the problem of Nigeria. angry

most networks or industries all over the world don't rely on government to give them power. They produce their own power.

And multiple taxes is a fallacy and it was in the past. Firs and telecom operators have put a stop to that. You people should give it a rest already.

Have you ever asked for your CDR? ......Ask your operator to give you your CDR and you will see that indeed you ( or your phone unkown to you ) used the data in most cases.

Fat lie. I use Glo full time and one day I decided trying airtel on the same phone to stream match like I always do with Glo. Usually it takes 450MB to complete a match on Glo ever since I have been using it, the 2 times I tried airtel 1GB finished at around 70-78mins.

They zap twice your actual data usage. My phone shows me the data amount used which always counts accurately on Glo but never on Airtel.....can you explain?
