Apc's Press Statement On Bayelsa Elections by stopthecycle: 10:37am On Nov 14, 2019 |
PRESS STATEMENT The South-South Zonal Office of the ruling All Progressives Congress wishes to inform our members and the electorate, especially in Bayelsa State, that we are aware of yesterday's high court ruling in Abuja in respect of our governorship running mate for this Saturday's polls, Senator Biobarukuma Degi, and to assure our people that they should not be in a state of panic. We have seen similar, and perhaps, worse judgments being quashed at the appellate level and it is our firm belief that this particular judgement will not stand as we know that Senator Degi, only recently passed through all known constitutional processes before being elected as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The good thing about the judgement is that it was delivered by a court of first instance which the party has already appealed and that it will not have negative bearing on the chances of our party, the All Progressives Congress, from clinching the desired victory on Saturday. We wish to draw the attention of our esteemed members and the electorate in Bayelsa State to the official position of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which is that the said eleventh hour judgement will be of no significance in relation to Saturday's polls. The chairman of the electoral umpire, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, was emphatic on this yesterday in Lokoja during a stakeholders’ meeting ahead of the polls. We, therefore, charge our members to continue to canvas for votes for our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) as we hope to emerge victorious. We equally enjoin the Bayelsan voters to keep faith with the All Progressives Congress as a victory for the APC on Saturday will erase the obvious disconnect between the state and the centre which is not in the interest of the people. Signed David Okumgba Zonal Secretary South South APC

garfield1: APC has no candidate for Bayelsa. They can't replace candidate again and no court will grant stay of execution for certificate forgery... the APC should be doing thorough screening on all candidates before final submission... 1 Like 1 Share |
