Can A Self Taught Programmer Be Employed In A I.T Company? by Logoking(m): 1:26pm On Nov 18, 2019
Good afternoon everyone.for a while now have been wondering if it is possible for a self taught programmer to be employed in a I.T company or any other company that need the services of a programmer.
One of the reason why am asking this question is because i am a boy whose mother can't afford to send him to a university,i don't fault her because she has five children and so its been difficult raising all of us without my late dad.
So is it possible to be employed as a self taught programmer (especially in Nigeria).

Not possible in Nigeria but if you can prove yourself in another country (outside Africa of course) through conferences or competitions or seminars then you can actually get one.

What if such a person has other certification other than a university certificate.

Forget the above commentor
Forget about Certification
All you need is the ability to code very well.
Once you can do that and you have some very good projects on GitHub. Start applying
In my experience most of the best programmers would still do great , even if they didn't go to uni

You can always get a job without certificate, just build your portfolio and resume!

I just dey laugh una and your resume is nothing without certificate. The rampant programming feat in Nigeria is web dev and there are too many web developers out there and not much jobs are out there for them only freelancing will help you self. Just as I said there is a greener pasture over the seas grin

What matters is what you know and what you have build with the knowledge and ability to convince potential employers

You are Oturumape, olodo. You know nothing. If you don't know, you shut up and let people who are well informed answer the question and not try to discourage someone who might have a bright future with or without certificate

Govt Organizations and private institutions in Nigeria most times usually recruit based on your field of study and this requires a minimum degree cert..
I.T tech companies may also want to get a cert but if they are mainly into certain aspect of services like web dev, mobile device etc, they may only look at your ability to code.

Yes sure you can by following these steps;
1. Create a portfolio with great projects on github
2. Apply for jobs
3. Repeat.

stay focused on these steps and you will break out from the loop, while doing this takeup some freelance projects as you use the money to keep body/soul together and also buy data for further learning.

Forget the lies some people are typing here!!
