I need a neutral person's opinion on this. I spend between 30-35k every other month on food and other consumables. my husband thinks it's too much because it's just the two of us. Do you think it's too much? pls offer tips on how to spend less. thanks 1 Like |

our tips wont solve the issue... what you need to do is let your man do the shopping for a month so he can show you exactly how he expects you to do it. 30 Likes |

MrBrownJay1:So you expect a wife to tell the husband to start buying food stuffs? How do you think he would feel even if the wife says it in the softest tone? |

Officialgarri: if the wifey is doing her best to manage money-wise and hubby isnt happy about her spending then let him show her exactly how he can manage it himself. its not like wifey is spending more ON PURPOSE is it?! let them both go and do the shopping on a weekend so he can show her.... no big deal here. how do you think wife feels when she tries her best to spend as little as possible but hubby says she spends too much? 34 Likes 1 Share |

wired4comfort:This information is not enough to work with. Break down how you spend your 30-35k, then people could help cut down on those things you might be over-spending on while eliminating those you don't particularly need. Alternatively, you could just supply the information to your husband and have him do the cutting down and eliminating...then do a test run of his result for the next month. 10 Likes |

OP, 30-35k is neither small nor large it all depends on how much your budget can afford. Both of you should make the grocery list and go to the market together. After two trips, your husband will have a guesstimate of how much you guys spend on groceries. Tip. To get a good deal on beef, go in the evening. Also, if you shop at a large supermarket, take advantage of those coupons. 24 Likes 2 Shares |

Nigerians. Always forming. I won't be surprised if those people saying the money is too small, the money is not even enough bullshit are actually broke Ass people who will find it hard to spend 500 naira on food with Mama Put. @ OP, do you complement the man! I mean, how much do you bring to the table at the end of the month? Can you personally currently afford right now to spend 35k of your hard earned money on food stuffs considering the fact that many family earn less than that monthly. If you earn more than 35k and you bring more than that to the table at the end of the month and you know you can afford to spend 35k on monthly feeding by yourself without any input from your husband, then by all means, spend the money. If however the answer is no, then sorry to say, you spend damn too much. 16 Likes 1 Share |

thank you all for your response. A little story My husband gives me 22k every month for the running of the house(food, water, tolietries etc), while I complete the rest according to the budget for that month. the problem is, he thinks the 22k should be enough if I was more carefull. I make a budget every month but he always refuse to look at it, but keeps insisting that 22k is enough for the two of us. I am yet to get my pay for last month and I have ran out of cash from the 22k. He is upset and is asking what I did with the money. 1 Like |

wired4comfort:Look at this budget and tell me how two grown ass adults can survive on 22k per month on a below average feeding pattern. It isn't even up to 1k per day for both. Not only feeding but toiletries and sh!ts are included. You better be living in a village or some remote town where the cost of living will support 550 naira per day. These can only be feasible if you cultivate the carbs and veggies in your backyard and buy the animal proteins, minerals and vitamin sources from the markets. Both of you are expected to chop 550 naira per day then use the rest of your savings to treat acute exacerbation of peptic ulcer disease. And some people with advanced degrees in managing poverty will be writing thesis to defend the indefensible... 26 Likes 1 Share |

wired4comfort: If you're are being truthful that you spend 30-35k a month on feeding for two people, then you're a very good manager. Thumbs up for you. I stay alone, I don't drink or smoke, but I spend 45-50k on food monthly (mind you my girlfriend doesn't stay with me, she visits once every month). You're indeed a good manager, your husband should know that. 21 Likes 1 Share |

That's a little over $100, so it's too small. If you're only spending that much (in Nigerian money) per month, then you're trying. He should be giving you a pat on the back, not complaining. 8 Likes |
Re: Help! My Husband Thinks I Spend Too Much by pocohantas(f): 9:24pm On Nov 19, 2019 |
wired4comfort: Now it adds up. Tbh, 22k a month is small, but that itself is relative- considering I do not know how much you both earn. If he wouldn't take a look at the expenses but keeps insisting it is much, I will suggest you do a drastic cutting down. Reduce chunks of meat, change brands of toiletries...do local rice...etc If you both had more, I am sure you won't be having this kinda financial misunderstandings. Na lack of money dey bring nonsense. 18 Likes 1 Share |

wired4comfort: Can you hand some stuff over to him? The only thing I do not do is buy food in the market. I buy the toiletries, powdered milk etc. You will find that shoprite sells ariel at the best price, one source for Indomie, temple Hill for powdered milk. Remove the market stuff and let him buy the rest. At least he will have an idea of the actual costs and the possible choices 3 Likes |
Re: Help! My Husband Thinks I Spend Too Much by MrBrownJay1(m): 9:33pm On Nov 19, 2019 |
SirVintageCock: bro...you are focusing on the wrong issue here. the man gives 22k (aka what he can) and the babe is suppose to top it with her own (she has no problem with that, so why should you?). i guess the remaining money (he has) is for rent and/or transport etc. as they are BOTH working, he gave his share and she should have brought hers, but sadly this month her salary is late... so the issue should have simply been to ask for hubby to advance her the money and she will pay him back later, but sadly, hubby has an issue with her speeding habits from the get go. the important question IS: how much does he make every month that you would WRONGLY ASSUME that he can afford more?!?!? 2 Likes |

No matter how you look at it, 30-35k is not too much for two adults that eats breakfast, lunch and dinner with meat. But know that there is always room for improvement. Even someone living in states like Benue and Taraba where food stuffs are cheap will just be ok with 30k. Mind you when we say 30k for food, I'm sure madam is also expected to by toiletries from there too. 2 Likes |
