He died on the First day of the festival of unleavened bread which happened to fall on a Thursday in AD 33. undecided

How could he have died on a Thursday when there was only a one day gap between his death and purported resurrection?

Also how could he have died on the first day of the feast when he had the meal with his disciples on that day, the day he was arrested?

1. If you are not a logical thinker then you are of the devil. The pharissee were "Torah worshippers" because they believed without thinking..
If you study instead of "believe" what Jesus said through out the gospel you'd come to understand why he was referred to as the [b] Logos . Jesus was very logical.

Here is a scenario:
bunch of illogical men picked of stones to murder an adulteress. Jesus, who happened to be there at the right time, stopped them saying "he who is without sin" cast the first stone".That statement up there is a logical one. "A sinner cannot condemn a sinner"...because then justice would be trampled upon.
Jesus Christ is indeed very very logical in His way. undecided

Jesus Christ was instead arrested on Passover, just as He predicted, and this more clearly explains many of the coincidences that was the day of His crucifixion https://www.nairaland.com/7110397/gospel-minddump#114760639

You ask me to read the book but cannot show me anything from the book to evidence what you are saying, funny innit? LoLz.

As for mine here you go:

Luke 23
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

Luke 24
1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

The Sabbath is at the end of the week which is Saturday, first day of the week is Sunday. The women rest on THE sabbath DAY, not days not sabbaths, not feast days, THE SABBATH DAY. There is only one THE SABBATH DAY, end of the week, Saturday.

Matthew 26
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

Luke 22
1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

I dunno why you are attempting to circumvent what is clearly written in the book you asked me to read. Passover is the feast of unleavened bread as clearly stated in Luke and Matthew says Jesus asked them to prepare for the meal on THE FIRST DAY of the feast, the same day he was arrested.

2. From Leviticus where the Feasts are in fact commanded, Passover occurs the day before the Festival of the Unleavened Bread begins. undecided
4 “These are the Lord’s chosen festivals. You will announce the holy meetings at the times chosen for them.
5 The Lord’s Passover is on the 14th day of the first month just before dark.
Festival of Unleavened Bread
6 “The Lord’s Festival of Unleavened Bread is on the 15th day of the same month. You will eat unleavened bread for seven days.
7 On the first day of this festival, you will have a special meeting. You must not do any work on that day.
8 For seven days, you will bring sacrifices offered as gifts to the Lord. Then there will be another special meeting on the seventh day. You must not do any work on that day.” - Leviticus 23 vs 4 - 8

I stated it clearly already, there was only a 1 day interval between Jesus' death and his purported resurrection.

2. From Leviticus where the Feasts are in fact commanded, Passover occurs the day before the Festival of the Unleavened Bread begins. undecided

So the gospel writers were wrong then since they say the feast of unleavened bread is the Passover and that Jesus had a meal with his disciples on the first day of the festival, the day he was arrested.

How can they clearly state he died on Friday when they didn't use such designations? What I said was there was a 1 day interval. The purported resurrection occurred the day after the sabbath the women rested on the sabbath, the day after the crucifixion.

That is not what is written in the gospels so by your own reasoning the gospel writers made a mistake.

1. But to conclude there was a 1-day interval between Jesus's death and His resurrection, you concluded that He died - crucifixion took place on day He died on - on Friday when, according to you, this was not in fact stated. undecided

Jesus actually spent three days. If you study the bible very well with understanding, the jews count day and night. Esther as well said she's going to fast for three days before meeting the king but she went on the third day "esther 4&5:1" why? Because they count day and night in israel. And there is no where in the bible that says jesus would resurrect AFTER the third day but ON the third day.
Jesus was buried in the day of friday, day and night is what we call a complete day but it differs from how israelites count theirs, friday "day" was the first day. Saturday "day" was the second day and sunday morning makes it the third day.
If you still don't get it i refer you to "romans 1:28-32"

Well, Jesus Christ did insist that He would be arrested on Passover day in Matthew 26 vs 1 - 2, and John verifies His claim in John 13 vs 1 - 2. undecided

Now, the day after Passover happens to be the First Day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, a Jewish Holiday wherein Jews were required by law to do no work - only cooking of meals was allowed by God in Exodus 12 vs 16 - 12 & Leviticus 23 vs 6 -8 - and gather together for a Holy Assembly in remembrance of the day God took them out of Egypt. What this does is explain why the Jews did not stone Jesus Christ to death according to Blasphemy Law on that day, opting instead to use the Romans in carrying out their plans to eliminate Him. This also explains why the Jews are written to have remained outside of Pilate's palace on the day they handed Jesus Christ over to Pilate in John 18 vs 28 - 29. In addition, the day being a Jewish Holy day more than explains the crowds that were there for the interrogation and crucifixion of Jesus Christ on the day in question. So, Jesus Christ more likely died on the First Day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, and so could not be buried until the day after because no work - not even buying and selling of even burial materials - not even burials were allowed on that day. undecided

Records indicate that Passover occurred on the Wednesday in AD 33, the most likely year for His Death. undecided

You are making a conjecture that contradicts what is written by the gospel writer of John. It says the Jews didn't want to enter because they didn't want to defiled and unable to eat the Passover so if the Passover was already eaten which Passover were they still anticipating?

Also again Mark 15:42 says

And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

Indicating that Jesus died the day before the sabbath. This could not have been the 7th day of the festival which was also a day of rest.

Which records? And nope, the most likely year for his death would be about CE 27 to 30 since he was most likely born between BCE 4 to 6.

[color=blue]One God created and supervising the affairs of billions of other "worlds". So, He can't be restricted to just our own tiny world.[/blue]
True God created and is alone supervising the affairs of millions and billions of other solar systems. The True God can never come to restrict Himself to just only the affairs of this 'tiny' world called the earth. So Jesus is not God but the messenger of God to our comparatively very tiny world. So worship the true God!

LoLz. The Bible was written by human beings there nothing it conveys beyond human understanding. You guys are just willing to impart meaning and reverence to it.

Even if the Jews only counted days it still doesn't add up to 3day and 3 night periods. Day periods: Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Night periods: Friday, Saturday. So we have only 3 day periods (and I am being generous to add Sunday since he purportedly resurrected before dawn) and 2 night periods. I can accept it was not suppose to be a literal 3 day and 3 night thing, probably some sort of local idiom.

1. Well, there is likely some error there in John's statement there since obviously there can't be two Passovers in one year. Also, there are no "Holy" requirements for the Passover meal. You simply need to show up is what? undecided

Now, if you recall in John 13 vs 1, John referred to the period as the time for the Jewish Passover Festival...
1. It was almost time for the Jewish Passover festival. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go back to the Father. Jesus had always loved the people in the world who were his. Now was the time he showed them his love the most. - John 13 vs 1
... implying his understanding is that the entire week has to do with Passover, something that the majority in our time, also subscribe to, as we link the entire week to Passover, and not some Festival of Unleavened Bread. undecided

2. The mention, even in Mark, does not directly link His death to Preparation day, does it? undecided

3. 7th day of the festival in relation to Passover would have been 8 days later --- does not even fit the context in any way or form. undecided

4. Regardless of the year you choose, the point I am trying to reveal here is there are errors in the accounts that need to be resolved before one can clearly state how long Jesus Christ was in the grave i.e. dead. And if we are to follow the breadcrumbs, it is more likely that He died on the First Day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread than on Friday after that. undecided

At least you are willing to admit that the gospel writers might have been in error however you still haven't shown how the interval was 2 days instead of 1. Only the 1st and last day of the festival had a no work stipulation so which day apart from the weekly sabbath also had a no work stipulation occurred during the festival.

missjo:
First of all, the answer to your question is an emphatic YES, the prophesy of three mornings(daylight) and three evenings(night) was fulfilled LITERALLY.

1.By the old Jewish system of days & nights, a new day began at sunset (6pm) instead of midnight (12am) as we observe presently. Jesus the Christ died on a wednesday between the hours of 12noon and 3pm (Matt 27:45-56). How can we be sure it was a Wednesday?Because of this passage:
John 19:31 King James Version (KJV) 31

A. The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. The Sabbath being referred to here does not speak of the regular Jewish Sabbath of Saturday, but rather the high day of the passover (as emphasized by John in his use of parenthesis to explain) also called a Sabbath. This "high day" was held on Thursdays.

B. Between 3pm and 6pm of Wednesday is the period where Joseph of Arimathea besought Pilate to release the body of Jesus to him for burial (Matthew 27:57-61). All of this could very well have taken approximately 3hours and by the time Jesus was laid in the tomb, it was already a little bit past 6pm of Wednesday.

C. Now if we start counting from 6pm on Wednesday (remember a new day starts at 6pm), then:
6pm Wednesday - 6pm Thursday = Day 1
6pm Thursday - 6pm Friday = Day 2
6pm Friday - 6pm Saturday = Day 3

Every day of the above is complete with 24hours of evening and morning (Note that the old testament bible records a full day by referring to it as evening and morning, never as morning and evening; another proof that a new day starts at 6pm).

2. The particular time and hour that Jesus arose can not be ascertained because no one witnessed it. The soldiers who kept watch outside the tomb only witnessed the earthquake and the angel rolling back the stone covering of the tomb which happened to grant Mary Magdalene and Mary mother of James, access into the sepulchre (this happened very early on Sunday morning).

John 20:1 calls it the first day of the week (Sunday) and he wrote that it was still dark (probably about 5am).
Mathew 28:1 says it in much the same way calling it the end of the Sabbath (Saturday) as it began to dawn on the first day of the week (Sunday).

As at the time these two women got there, he had already risen some time after sunset on Saturday evening without the knowledge of the soldiers outside who stood guard. As far as they were concerned, the body of Jesus was still in the tomb by the time the two Marys got there at about 5am on Sunday morning.
1. There are problems with this "high day" of the Passover idea you have going here.

A. what you suggest by this is that Jesus Christ was killed on the day of Passover, the day He instead said He would be arrested and handed over to the enemy to then be killed - Matthew 26 vs 1 - 2. undecided

B. The story itself has it that the Jewish leaders didn't want to arrest or take Jesus Christ out in the open for fear they would risk a riot on the day of Passover, so, if He was arrested and killed on Passover, don't you think the entire story falls apart at the seams? undecided

C. Wednesday to Sunday is in fact over 3 days, meaning Jesus Christ not only spent more than 3 days in the grave but also rose on the 4th day, instead of the 3rd day.

2. The stories all insist that He was up from His grave by the time the women showed up at His grave as witnesses. So it matters that we are told they did so at dawn on the third day and not the fourth day.undecided
