With the speed this technology came to Africa I’m beginning to believe the radiation rumours. Well, it’ll kill off the unlucky and leave the genetically-strong to thrive.

Last week, I tried out MTN'S 5G network and I was able to download a 2GB movie in 19 seconds as opposed to 5 mins on 4G LTE. However, as I said in my video, while the 5G speed test might not translate to real-world usage, it does give a clear insight as to what to expect with 5G in Nigeria.

I'm blown away. Won't this make data more expensive? The faster the speed, the faster the data consumption

No, not when all you do is browsing without downloading. When you decide to download, then you should see it as a plus

A lot of people are complaining here but the truth about the matter is that MTN work better is some specific areas ... you can only know when U do your interentvspeed test in that area ...

And it’s only the heavy user that wolll benefit from 5G network .

And for an average user ... will only be able to maximize the strength of 4g network .
Re: This Is How Fast MTN 5G Network Is! by Correcto: 2:09pm On Dec 04, 2019
You nailed it because the current 4G is aost same as 3G

The UK,CHINA,USA have adopted it, so what's your point exactly.

The points are:

1. The UK, China and US you claimed have adopted it are aware of the hazards of that technology.
2. They have measures in place to eliminate the hazards or minimize its effects on the health of their citizens.
3. Nigeria have no measures in place to protect anybody.

Hope you understand my point now

People will always come up with radiation Shenanigans. They did too when 4g came out in 2010. Some stubborn people said we can't have any OS better than XP and they get stuck in the year 2001 for so long. Change is the only constant thing. Radio Frequency is non-ionizing radiation, the same class your microwave is. It's not penetrating your skin. Scientists in the world are still researching. For now, the people against it have not come up with good scientific proofs. She got 122Mbps download speed and 2.073Mbps upload speed in that demo video, that's still very far away from the speed 5g can achieve.
It's the other way round. Downlink speed 2.073Mbps, while uplink is 122Mbps. Look closely

I am not sure how real your concerns are.

5G isnt about downloading, watching movies or making video calls which is the primary concern of many retail users. 4G is good enough for that. 5G's revolution is really in the space where man and machine become one For instance I can use a haptic glove plug into a 5G network and let a surgeon in America use my hands to perform surgery IN Nigeria. I can get streams of data flowing through neural consciousness devices so that I dont hear or view information - I think it! All this is already here - just waiting for 5G roll outs.

So here's the thing - these arent mass retail products so cost is hardly going to be an issue to the general user in simply because he is not the target market Those who use it will be able to pay or justify it through increased opportunity and revenue flows. It is at this point that the democratization of the internet begins to splinter into users who have and those who dont have. Certain aspects of data- internet- robotics - AI simply wont be affordable for the mass use initially. That's the reality.

Providers wont be insincere because not only can the speed be tested but the human augmentation apps and devices 5G is primarily intended for simply wont work if speed is not met. No hiding space for providers.

Expect to see some sort of compensation through an upgraded 4G plus at a reasonable price.

I said this once and people wan crucify me. Anyone noticed that 2G or EDGE on some networks no longer works? This could actually be the reason .....selling us 2G instead of 3G and 3G instead of 4G, now they've come up with 5G meaning they will be selling us 4G instead of 5G ....abi nor be telecos for Naija wey i sabi well?

Do you want to be downloading 2gb video every day? 5g or 4g will not change your data consumption rate, but your browsing habit will do. 5g does not increase the size of the facebook homepage or increase your mailbox size or increase the Instagram page size. Maybe because it's fast, you may be tempted to do more activities than what you are doing right now. Let's use a real-life Scenario. Assuming you are living in Lagos and Govt finish a fast rail line that can get to Ibadan in 30mins. Will you be going to Ibadan everyday without purpose all in the name that it's fast to get there. The fast rail line may only tempt you to attend more irrelevant functions if you are not disciplined.
Nice analogy

I think we both got it wrong. I didn't see it very well.
2073Mbps downlink and 122Mbps uplink. The comma looks like a dot. That makes sense now. 2.3gb movie should take around 9s to download.

You are very right. I don't think we are ripe for 5g yet. MTN will have to invest a lot of money in changing some of their radio equipment and also build more cell towers cos 5g can't travel far like 4g. It has a shorter wavelength. We don't have any standard hospital in Nigeria ready for remote surgical operations. Many of us cannot even afford all these VR games or buy Galaxy S10 or LgV50 or other 5g phones. They should focus on getting quality 4g to every nook and cranny of Nigeria. They should make my village in Oyo state to be experiencing at least 15Mbps. After that, they can start investing in 5g. NCC should caution and regulate them.
