Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday said his administration is determined to build the Fourth Mainland Bridge.

He also highlighted key component of his administration aimed at delivering his Greater Lagos vision.

Sanwo-Olu revealed his administration’s strides while answering questions as a guest on Channels television’s flagship programme, Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.

He said the construction of the 4th mainland bridge, would make use of private equity to achieve the project.

“Two weeks ago, we advertised the 4th mainland bridge project locally and internationally. Our total budget for next year is about $3 billion and that’s the highest in the country. The 4th mainland bridge, from the design we have seen that it is a 37 kilometres road. We cannot handle it alone so we are going to use private equity. We have advertised. We have the alignment, we have the right of way and all of the biometric study. Let everyone worldwide come and play a role,” he said.

The only way forward in this country is to privatise our 'major' roads, else, it will forever be the same sad story.

You have spoken the truth. Nigeria is simply too broke to maintain its vast network of roads, let alone build new ones. But our people overestimate government's capabilites and resources.

That would have been better but the cost of transportation will move up because of tolls on the road. But what will the government be doing after privatising all our major roads.

He should complete the blue lane rail project before embarking on the fourth mainland bridge.

They will have enough money to be fixing our inner roads that are fantastically ridden with pot holes.

BTW, I'd rather pay toll to get to my 1 hour destination in 1 hour in lieu of getting there in 3-4 hours on death traps.

1. We too like miracles and awoof. Roads are good overseas because people and companies pay appropriate taxes, and people give birth to kids they can afford to take care of, in lieu of the recklessness we have here, especially in the north = too many mouths depending on same ol' pot.

2. Our budget compared to countries with less than a third of our population, is pathetic/shameful -- it can't provide any appreciable form of infrastructure.

3. Our leaders are armed robbers!

They will prefer to borrow cash to fund projects than do PPP, so they can 'kpai' the money.

Who now pays the debt? We.

In PPP, we pay as we go.

We get what we pay for.

We cannot and should not transfer the responsibility of the government to private hands.
Better options

Allow private investors build and operate rails/ trains. That would reduce pressure on the roads.

Reduce the size of the government (all levels). Roads should be transferred to state governments i.e all roads in Lagos should be the responsibility of the Lagos State government.
