I was pushed into sharing this after reading about the accident involving a PMT bus and GUO (i think). I am a bit surprised by some of the comments there saying it was all a bid to de-market PMT, which isn't entirely true. I have had my fair share of near-accidents using PMT for the past one year, of which i would share the most recent one which happened just last month.
On that fateful day (26th Nov 2019), I boarded a PMT bus from Onitsha to Nsukka, expecting a safe journey at least, I was sitting behind the driver, a young chap in his late 20s, he had ear-piece on, overspeeding like he kept a spare life at home, all our pleas for him to slow down fell on deaf ears, till the uninmaginable happened, the bus' brake pad failed (we later found out he was well aware of, but he was hoping it would serve us for the duration of the journey, so he can fix it Nsukka. Imagine the nerve!), we were heading straight to an incoming trailer, it took the intervention of God (yeah, i am that religious), and the presence of mind of the driver to steer us away from the path of the incoming trailer into the nearby bush, the bus just kept heading deep into the bush before it got entangled by twigs, and that was how our lives were saved that day.

Down the years, i have heard whispers that the high number of accidents associated with PMT wasn't ordinary, but I won't like to tow that line, I think the problem with PMT is quite glaring. Without mincing words, PMT as a whole is a mess, they are grossly incompetent; right from the management, down to the drivers. There is no day I ply a road in the East without seeing a spoilt PMT bus on the road or one involved in an accident, the management doesn't seem to care about their buses which are mostly poorly maintained (they only know how to keep the paint on the buses fresh), they also fail in the aspect of choice of drivers they employ, it's as if they don't have any set criteria they use in employing their drivers, it's more or less like they hand it down to their folks as favors without regards to their driving skills, experience, etc.
The drivers, on the other hand, are actually some of the worst set of drivers I have ever encountered, they Overspeed, drive dangerously and when you try to caution them, they rudely question you if you want to teach them their jobs;, to avoid getting them in a wrong mood I usually just let it slide. Other passengers who are not so cool usually engage these drivers in heated arguments which mostly drag on for the entirety of the journey.
I learned they have a 'monitoring team' of some sorts which are stationed in some areas, but of what use is a static monitoring team really since all the drivers have to do is to slow down when they are approaching areas where the 'monitoring teams' are usually positioned.
Till the owner of PMT or the management take proactive steps in either re-training their drivers and also taking maintenance of their buses seriously, PMT will always be regarded as a death-trap and will continue to be in the news for the wrong reasons.

Please pardon any typo/wrong grammar, I am not a writer!

I’ve used them once and I doubt I ever will again. The funny part is I patronized three services of eastern origin with similar results. I believe people from that region should get banned from running transport services. All they care about is profit and nothing else.

until government suspends their licence to operate as a commercial transport company, I guess they won't take anyone serious.

Canadian airliner Boeing 737 tire burst during takeoff
A Sunwing airline flight from Santa Clara, Cuba, to Montreal had to make an emergency landing last Wednesday after a tire burst during takeoff.

The plane landed safely at Varadero airport, also in Cuba, and all 190 passengers and crew members escaped without a scratch, after the intervention of emergency ground teams.

The story received little publicity in Canada, but the pilot of the plane, Vicky Earks, received a hero's welcome in Cuba, where the local media reported the story extensively.

Earks was photographed in some Cuban media outlets with a canvas given to her in recognition of her composure.

According to the Aviation Safety Network, the aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, had previously experienced a window cracking problem in September 2022 and an autopilot problem in November 2019, but both problems had been resolved.
