2 Tim.3 Vs 16 says:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness!

So read the scripture below and tell us the lessons in the comment section.

Judah and Tamar from NIV Genesis 38

1At that time, Judah left his brothers and went down to stay with a man of Adullam named Hirah. 2There Judah met the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua. He married her and made love to her; 3she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, who was named Er. 4She conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan. 5She gave birth to still another son and named him Shelah. It was at Kezib that she gave birth to him.

6Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death.

8Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.”9But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death also.
11Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Live as a widow in your father’s household until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “He may die too, just like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s household.

12After a long time Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shua, died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah, to the men who were shearing his sheep, and his friend Hirah the Adullamite went with him.

13When Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,” 14she took off her widow’s clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah. For she saw that, though Shelah had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.

15When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. 16Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.”

“And what will you give me to sleep with you?” she asked.

17“I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” he said.

“Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?” she asked.

18He said, “What pledge should I give you?”

“Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand,” she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him. 19After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow’s clothes again.

20Meanwhile Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite in order to get his pledge back from the woman, but he did not find her. 21He asked the men who lived there, “Where is the shrine prostitute who was beside the road at Enaim?”

“There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here,” they said.

22So he went back to Judah and said, “I didn’t find her. Besides, the men who lived there said, ‘There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here.’ ”

23Then Judah said, “Let her keep what she has, or we will become a laughingstock. After all, I did send her this young goat, but you didn’t find her.”

24About three months later Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar is guilty of prostitution, and as a result she is now pregnant.”

Judah said, “Bring her out and have her burned to death!”

25As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. “I am pregnant by the man who owns these,” she said. And she added, “See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are.”

26Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I, since I wouldn’t give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not sleep with her again.

27When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. 28As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, “This one came out first.” 29But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, “So this is how you have broken out!” And he was named Perez. a 30Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out. And he was named Zerah. b

Footnotes:
a 29 Perez means breaking out.
b 30 Zerah can mean scarlet or brightness.

Ohhhhhh that’s what u meant....

U know what I think...the Old Testament folks attributed all things to God..weda Good, bad, ugly or any other....their understanding of life was shallow...u need to also understand that bible accounts were recorded from writers perspective and vantage points so it makes it look like it’s one sided...
that’s why it looks like the description of God in the Bible is a God of the Israelites destroying other nations (enemy) for them.
Where as the isrealites also lost many times after but the accounts weren’t given from the angle of the enemy as God being on their side when they won.....so it’s a vantage point description

Can you support your opinion with a Bible verse? If not keep mute and let's agree Jesus killed them.

@antichristian, please what is your Gospel? That God is bad or Jesus is bad? However, it means you have already admitted his existence which is a good thing.

When you read your bible ask God for wisdom and why do I say so?. Writers of old do not speak the way we understand literally. When you hear a story, always remember that these things happened in real life. When they say someone died because he was evil, you should very well know that evil people are not associated with one heinous act. They continue to do wicked and to those around them. The wages of sin is death.

You can't kill, steal, rape, or commit other wicked form of attrocities and expect to go free. There will be one single act that will finally judge a wicked person. That's where the idea of everyday for the thief one day for the owner.

When you read Shakespeare's sonnets or some ancient writings, it takes a lot of wisdom to decipher the meaning.

God does not kill neither does Jesus. However, there is a law of karma, when you do evil, it will come back to you. Now the question you should ask is who were the children of Judah, what was their character on earth, what made the children evil?

As a logical person, you would know that the second brother who brought out his semen not to get the woman pregnant, hated her. He could not bare to have children with her. He could have set the woman free for her to go her way but chose to suffer her to be childless. In real life, if a man hates the woman he's made marry, he would maltreat her, beat her and her treat her badly but because you chose the limit your mind to a few lines of the bible, you never asked for wisdom....."he knew the child would never be his" simply meaning that he despised her.

Before you keep going about preaching false doctrine on people's religion, please ask questions when you don't understand.

Good, now you ask. How did God put him to death? There is no account of how he died in the bible, but that verse talks about what the writer knew of the incident or story. It was believed that his death was a punishment from God because he did without leaving an heir

So you mean this verse below is a lie?

No it was not a lie but it goes to show you that the story is about the history of the people of Judah. The culture then was that a man's legacy was his children. When Er died, his brother was asked to marry is wife as it was their custom. Now you see that the whole chapter you read was concerning the tradition and culture of those people.

1. But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death. Gen 38 vs 7

2. But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death

Again, it means Onan died childless. In his bid not to give Tamar children for his brother, he ended up without children before his death. The writer believes he was punished and again based on their culture and believe

also
. Gen 38 vs 10

The bible is a collection of books and not just one giant book. There are many authors of ancient books in religion. The Catholic compiled the ones that was relevant while you will find another version that has some extra books.

Still there still so many other writings from people of those times just as we have writers today. People have written books about what is happening in our society today and the future generation will still make references to them.

When you hear some bad stories in the bible, it is enough conviction that Christianity has nothing to hide. The history of man is written undiluted and in its purest form. The bible was not compiled to make readers fall in love with the religion but to know the truth.

The old testament contains history, stories, parables, prayers, testimonies and prophecies. Not every story is meant to leave a lesson but rather they are meant for you to know the history of the people of that time.

We too are living our own story. There are a lot of stories that are very similar to what is happening today in our society and they make our history.

Believing in God means that we understand that we were created to enjoy the earth and for that we are grateful to God.

However, what we make of our lives is entirely up to us. The bible is a moral guide for us to know more about those before us and to know the things of God. Whether you are an aethiest, Christian, Muslim or pagan worshipper, it doesn't change the fact that our history can be traced from the first man.

Now you quote a new testament verse for an old testament book. Like I said, the book of Genesis and the other books in the old testament talks about the account of man's history, from the first man to the sons of Abraham. Genesis 38 talks about the history of Judah who was one of the 12 sons of Jacob.

History has no lesson, it is a story that comprises of the good, bad and ugly. You can either accept the truth or keep looking for reasons to avoid seeing the obvious. You can lift up uncomfortable parts of the bible, but you will only show how much you lack wisdom in understanding what history is about.

Is there anything you have learnt from Africa's history, just like we have the wars, independence, military takeovers in our time. The people of old also faced this issues. The writers of these books were like our vanguard today, telling account of incidents that they witnessed in their time.

I don't know what lesson you are looking for in a history of a tribe but God help you.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

The old testament can't be evil because it also contains prayers. If you call the old testament evil, then you refer to the history of Nigeria and all the countries around the world as evil.

There are the good, bad and ugly. Everyone's act will be recorded on earth. Nothing we do is hidden and that is what the old testament tells us.

The old testament is a compilation of books by different authors..what is your concept of evil? Do you expect the writer to lie about the occurrences that happened thousands of years ago

And yet again another insinuation about God. Where did you see it in the bible that God was ok with the actions of the daughters of lot. That story only made it clear that even when Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed because of sin, man still continued to sin.

Obviously you will blame God for the father that raped his daughter, or for the Thief that killed, or the kidnapping everyday.

God does not pull the trigger, man does. It was so in the days of old and is still the same. Did God whisper in the ears of Lot's daughters. You keep talking about the history of the Israelites. If you concentrate less on hating God and focus more on the history of this people, you might actually see how everyone on earth is connected right from the first man. All you read in the old testament was a generation tree that grew up to the kings of Israel.

You mean Muhammad too did this below?

Numbers
Chapter 31
7-12

7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. 8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. 9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods. 10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. 11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. 12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

I wonder what Christians have to say about this? Using their own criteria against them this makes their God a false violent God. So once again Christians should not throw stones if they live in a glass house.

17-18
17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. 18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves

What do Christians have to say to this? This is their God commanding Moses to kill the women and CHILDREN and to keep the virgins alive.

There is no excuse here! None! He was not forgiving and merciful at all.
Keep virgins alive for yourself is similar to what BH is doing with Chibok girls and other girls they kidnapped.
