Washing Machine
Common Problem: Machine won't spin

Solution:
Inspect the drive belt to determine if it is broken or if it is loose on the pulleys. If the drive belt is broken or loose, replace it.

The clutch assembly makes the connection between the transmission and the inner tub. It helps the tub to gradually get up to the proper spin speed. If the clutch is worn out, it may prevent the tub from spinning.

The drive motor might be defective. However, the drive motor is rarely at fault for this symptom. Before replacing the drive motor, first check all of the more commonly defective washer components.

The washer transmission might be worn out or defective. Transmissions have gears in them that can fail causing the washer not to spin. However, this is almost never the case.

Inspect the door strike assembly for damage. If the door strike is broken, replace it. The door strike is not repairable—if it is broken, you must replace it.

Lawn Mower

Below is a list of the most commonly replaced parts associated with each lawn mower symptom:

Lawn mower won’t start:
Check /replace spark plug, carburetor might be faulty and need service or replacement, start switch might be bad, fuel pump might be the cause.

Lawn mower engine stops after a few seconds:
Carburetor might be faulty, gas cap not fitted properly or spark plug is faulty or tight enough.

Lawn mower battery keeps draining:
Battery is weak, charger bad or alternator faulty, voltage regulator do also fail sometimes.

Lawn mower leaks gas:
carburetor bowl gasket not set properly, float needle stuck and need service, primer bulb stiff, fuel shut-off solenoid not functional.

Lawn mower wheels won’t turn (for motorized types):
v-belt slacked, drive pulley worn, wheel assembly not in order, transmission issues.

Lawn mower is hard to start:
carburetor clogged, primer bulb stiff, carburetor faulty, loose or faultyspark plug, fuel pump damaged.

Microwave Oven
Common Problem: Microwave not heating

Solution:

The Diode converts the A/C power output of the transformer to D/C, doubling the voltage to nearly 5,000 volts. This high voltage powers the magnetron to heat the food. If the diode burns out, the magnetron won’t receive enough voltage to operate, preventing the microwave from heating. When the diode fails, it is often visibly burned out. Inspect the diode and if the diode is burned out, replace it. If inspecting the diode proves inconclusive, test it with a multimeter that uses a 9-volt battery or put a 9-volt battery in series with the diode. When the leads are reversed, the diode should only have continuity in one direction.
(Warning: The microwave oven can store a lethal amount of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the high running voltage and the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace the diode.)

Most microwaves have three or four door switches. When the microwave door closes, the door switches actuate in sequence to ensure that the door is closed properly. If any of the door switches fails, the microwave will not start or heat. To determine if any of the door switches are defective, use a multi-meter to test each of the switches for continuity. If any of the door switches does not have continuity, replace it.
(Caution: The microwave oven can store thousands of volts of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace a door switch.)

The magnetron uses high voltage, high current DC power to generate the microwave frequency that cooks the food. If the magnetron burns out, the microwave won’t heat. The magnetron is not repairable—if the magnetron is burned out, you must replace it.
(Warning: The microwave oven can store a lethal amount of electricity in its high voltage capacitor, even after the microwave oven has been unplugged. Due to the high running voltage and the potential for electric shock, it is extremely dangerous to replace the electronic components in a microwave. Only a licensed technician should replace the magnetron.)

The high voltage capacitor works with the high voltage diode to convert the output of the transformer to DC voltage and to double the output voltage. If the capacitor is burned out, the entire high voltage circuit will stop working properly, and the microwave won’t heat. To determine if the high voltage capacitor is defective, use a VOM meter with a capacitance testing capability.

Other areas to check include, the High Voltage Transformer, Thermal Fuse, Thermoprotector, Main Control Board
