Real Madrid Disciplinary Decisions Announced. by kakakibuy(m): 8:56pm On Nov 30, 2010 |
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has made a number of decisions relating to Real Madrid CF's match at AFC Ajax on 23 November, issuing several fines and suspensions. Following the opening of disciplinary proceedings concerning the improper conduct of Real Madrid CF coach José Mourinho and players Xabi Alonso, Sergio Ramos, Iker Casillas and Jerzy Dudek during the UEFA Champions League Group G game against AFC Ajax in Amsterdam on Tuesday 23 November, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body dealt with the case today and decided the following: The Spanish club's coach José Mourinho has been suspended from coaching activities for two UEFA club competition matches, of which the second is deferred for a probationary period of three years. He was also fined €40,000. Players Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos were fined €20,000, Iker Casillas was fined €10,000 and Jerzy Dudek was fined €5,000. The red cards given to Alonso and Ramos stand, and they have therefore been suspended for one UEFA club competition match. The Control and Disciplinary Body has decided to fine Real Madrid CF €120,000. An appeal may be lodged against the ruling within three days of the dispatch of the reasoning for the decision. The Control and Disciplinary Body will publish tomorrow the outcome of the hearing held today in relation to the case against Romanian club CFR 1907 Cluj for the improper conduct of coach Sorin Cârţu during the UEFA Champions League Group E game against FC Basel 1893 in Basel on 23 November. source- http://www.uefa.com/uefa/footballfirst/matchorganisation/disciplinary/news/newsid=1570988.html#madrid+disciplinary+decisions+announced |

UEFA have decided to lessen the severity of the punishment they imposed on Real Madrid for their improper conduct against Ajax in the Champions League. European football's governing body had initially slapped coach Jose Mourinho with a two-game suspension and a €40,000 fine for his involvement in the red card fiasco at the Amsterdam ArenA. Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos intentionally picked up red cards late in the game in the 4-0 win with the midfielder first being sent off and then the defender picking up a second yellow card for wasting time. Video footage later showed that Mourinho's instructions to Ramos to get himself sent off was passed on to him by Jerzy Dudek and Iker Casillas. The players and the club were handed fines for their involvement in the unsporting behaviour. Madrid, though, appealed and UEFA have now decided to reduce their original punishment. In a statement on their official website, they stated that Madrid "are now fined €100,000 instead of €120,000" with Mourinho's fine being decreased from €40,000 to €30,000. The Madrid coach "is now suspended for one match – Wednesday's Group G fixture between Madrid and AJ Auxerre – instead of the initial suspension of one game with a second game deferred for a probationary period of three years." The statement continued, "The fines handed down by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body to the Madrid players Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos ( €20,000 each), Iker Casillas (€10,000) and Jerzy Dudek (€5,000) remain the same. "The one-match suspensions handed down to Alonso and Ramos also stand." www.goal.com |
