So, it does appear that the United States has eventually found a way to stem the flow of Nigerians into their country.

After the embassy of the US in Nigeria increased its visa application fee last year, the number of Nigerians who visited America dropped, according to data from the United States Travel and Tourism Office.

Recall that in August 2019, the United States Government had included a repository fee for Nigerians granted a visa under B, F, H1B, I, L, and R classifications.

The US Government said that “the reciprocity fee will be charged in addition to the non-immigrant visa application fee, also known as the MRV fee, which all applicants pay at the time of application. Nigerian citizens whose applications for a non-immigrant visa are denied will not be charged the new reciprocity fee.

“Both reciprocity and MRV fees are non-refundable, and their amounts vary based on visa classification.”
